  • Patent number: 5100639
Abstract: A process for manufacturing high purity anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (HF) having low levels of oxidizable impurities by electrolytically oxidizing the impurities. Specifically, trivalent arsenic impurity in the anhydrous hydrogen fluoride is oxidized to a non-volatile pentavalent arsenic compound. The resultant mixture is distilled to recover high purity anhydrous hydrogen fluoride with low levels of arsenic impurity.

  • Patent number: 5098452
Abstract: A method is disclosed for controlling the interfacial level of solvent vapor and overhead gas in a vessel. The solvent vapor level is controlled by means of a displacement body which is suspended from a load cell. The displacement body is partially immersed in the solvent vapor with the remainder being immersed in the overhead gas covering the solvent vapor. The displacement body's apparent weight is measured by the load cell and used to control the rate of solvent vapor removal from the spin-cell thereby maintaining the solvent vapor/overhead gas interface in the spin-cell at a desired level.

  • Patent number: 5099347
Abstract: A fast packet and frequency switch, with inputs and outputs connected to optical fibers, each allowing the transit of a certain number of different-wavelength optical carriers, modulated by serial information flows organized into packets. The packets are phase-realigned and their labels are converted under the control of external processors designed to set-up and break connections. Then a frequency conversion of the optical carriers allotted to packets is carried out and the packets are recombined into a single fiber by a passive recombination network in order to be stored into an optical loop memory, which is an optical fiber delay line. Each optical packet flow is extracted at suitable times, is frequency-converted and, among the various frequencies obtained, there are selected only those to be sent to corresponding output fibers outgoing from the switch, after having been recombined with those of the other converted flows.

  • Patent number: 5098176
Abstract: A control arrangement for a galvanometer driven mirror whereby the angle of incidence of a beam on a holographic recording material is controlled includes a laser source and associated detector. The detector responds to a reflected position sensing beam incident thereon to generate electric currents. A ratio network forms the ratio of the sum and difference of the currents to generate an actual mirror position signal that is independent of the power output of the source of the sensing beam. An integrator is responsive to the error between the signal representative of the actual mirror position and a reference signal representative of a predetermined position of the mirror for forming a galvanometer position signal.

  • Patent number: 5096743
Abstract: A process for curing a heat-weldable roofing membrane by applying elemental sulfur on the exterior surface of the roofing membrane, said membrane being a blend of (a) 50-80% by weight of an ethylene/propylene/nonconjugated diene elastomer and (b) 20-50% by weight of an ethylene-containing polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, an ethylene alpha-monoolefin copolymer wherein the monoolefin contains from 3-12 carbon atoms and is present in amounts of 2-8% by weight, and an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer having a vinyl acetate content up to about 10% by weight, said membrane containing a cure accelerator. The roofing membrane is exposed to ambient outdoor temperatures resulting in migration of sulfur to the interior of the membrane where, together with the cure accelerator, it effects cure of the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5096206
Abstract: A pipe joint sealer for providing a watertight joint in metal pipe, cast concrete pipe, plastic pipe and the like is disclosed. The pipe joint sealer prevents fine dirt and sand from entering the pipe through the joint. The pipe joint sealer is comprised of an absorbent material such as low density, open cell, resilient foam which is saturated with a quantity of water reactive urethane prepolymer. The urethane prepolymer saturated foam is sandwiched between two layers of a geotextile fabric such as polypropylene which permit moisture to come into contact with the urethane prepolymer saturated foam. Moisture causes the urethane prepolymer saturated foam to expand and thereby form a dynamic watertight seal. Drying of the urethane prepolymer saturated foam causes it to shrink back toward its original volume. Thereafter, the pipe joint sealer of the present invention forms a new watertight seal each time it is wetted.
