Abstract: A touch screen overlay for use on the viewing surface of a visual display device formed from a flexible membrane laminate having improved conductor durability. The flexible laminate comprises first and second flexible substrates formed of transparent polyester material. An array of parallel transparent conductors is deposited on a surface of each flexible substrate. The two flexible substrates are joined together by an adhesive sheet of polyester material. The substrates are joined so that transparent conductors are deposited on the surface of each flexible substrate which faces away from the viewing surface when the overlay is attached to the visual display device. The two arrays, when so superimposed, form a grid-like pattern, separated by the thickness of the upper one of the flexible substrates and the adhesive sheet. A third flexible substrate also formed of polyester material covers the surface of the upper one of the other flexible substrates carrying the upper array of parallel conductors.
Abstract: A D to A converter comprising a series of stages each including a current mirror having an input and an output transistor (Q1 and Q3) and a current adjusting transistor (Q2, Q4) connected in parallel with each input and output transistor for adjusting the output current from the current mirror as a function of the operating states of the current adjusting transistors. The operating state of each current adjusting transistor is controlled by a digital signal applied to a switch (Q2S, Q2S') connected to the gate of each current adjusting transistor. Each stage also includes a control circuit (Q1C, Q3C) for maintaining equal the drain voltages of its input and output transistors whereby the current changes introduced in the output current of the converter stage are functions of the relative geometric sizes of the input, output and current adjusting transistors comprising the converter stage.
Abstract: Flexible, soft objects such as ostomy pouches, wound dressings, bandages, diapers, etc. can be flushed down a conventional toilet by wrapping or enclosing the article within a material that rapidly becomes slimy or exudes a slimy material on contact with the water in a toilet bowl or by adding such materials directly to the bowl.
Abstract: An electrooptic deflector composed of a plate made of a material with a refractive index which can be modified by the application of an electrical field, whereinto a collimated optical beam can be injected in direction parallel to the electrodes deposited on a plate face. Said electrodes are parallel to one another, equally-spaced and separately connected to voltage sources apt to increase the refractive index in the material passing from an electrode to the next. The emerging optical beam is deflected in the direction wherein the refractive index increases.

Abstract: Filter unit for connectors, comprising an electrically insulating substrate (2) with passages (3) for the contact elements of a connector, capacitors being disposed on both flat sides (4, 4') of the substrate (2) in the region of the passages (3), said capacitors made up of first electrodes, each formed by at least one layer (5, 5') of electrically conducting material extending over said sides (4, 4') of the substrate (2), and provided with correspondingly situated larger passages (6), second electrodes formed by spaced-apart electrode patches (9, 9') with passages (10) and at least one layer (7, 7') of dielectric material extending between said first and second electrodes. By connecting said second electrodes to the contact elements of a connector, and by connecting said first electrodes to the housing thereof, each contact element is capacitively decoupled.
Abstract: A two-part ostomy coupling has a first part which is a flat annulus having inner and outer peripheral walls. With the annulus these walls define a shallow channel. The coupling has a second part formed by a second flat annulus with radially inner and outer rims formed by respective flexible peripheral elements of plastics material. The first and second parts are constructed so that the second part is a push fit into the shallow channel defined by the first part. An annular member having a flexible resilient strip extending inwardly from its radially inner edge and an element extending from its radially outer edge which can engage under a rim portion of the said outer peripheral wall. Alternatively, the second part may be an annular member having a flexible resilient strip extending outwardly from its radially outer edge and an element extending from its radially inner edge which can engage under a rim portion of the said inner peripheral wall.

Abstract: Apparatus for movably supporting an object to be marked which includes a fixed member with a table assembly movable reciprocally on the fixed member. The object to be marked is secured to a surface of the table. A marking device is supported on a U-shaped support member and a guide means is movably secured to the support member with the marking device pivotally mounted thereon. A first driving means moves the marking device linearly relative to the fixed member to apply a mark on the object and a second driving means moves the table relative to the fixed member to position the marking device. The support member is mounted either vertically or horizontally so that it can mark a vertical surface or a horizontal surface on the object.
Abstract: A silica glass optical fiber is subjected to an external strain which causes vitreous matrix atoms to stabilize in a lower energy condition. In this way inhomogeneity domain sizes and as a consequence the attenuation due to Rayleigh scattering, depending on such inhomogeneity, are reduced.

Abstract: A circular waveguide section which is suitably excited with a TM.sub.01 and two spatially orthogonal TE.sub.11 modes to form a cosine-squared-on-a pedestal amplitude distribution at the outputs of the circular waveguide. The resulting cosine-squared-on-a-pedestal amplitude taper may be distributed to the elements of a circular phased array to form a low sidelobe antenna. Since the waveguide is a reciprocal element, it can be used in a receiver as well as a transmitter.
Abstract: Tape cleaning and degaussing apparatus for cleaning, conditioning and degaussing magnetic video tape comprising a wiper means for wiping front and back surfaces of the video tape, a scrapping means engaging the front surface of the video tape for removing debris therefrom, a degaussing means for demagnetizing the video tape and a means for moving the video tape past the wiper means, scrapping means and degaussing means.Additionally, the tape cleaner and degausser apparatus contains a clear dust cover providing easy access for removal and replacement of the cleaning mechanisms in the interior of the apparatus, as well as a bar condition LED station which informs the user when the cleaning bar needs to be rotated or changed.
Abstract: Flat polyester yarns that provide soft pleasing fabrics that can easily be brushed (or napped) to enhance their aesthetics, on account of their unusually low tenacity, that consist essentially of cationic dyeable polyester filaments, and corresponding spin-oriented feed yarns that may be processed into such flat yarns by draw-warping.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for classifying non-aqueous liquid suspensions of charged particles employs a large time-varying electric field applied to a suspension situated between capacitive test electrodes. A current waveform is produced that characterizes the suspension with respect to critical properties including concentration, mobility, and plating tendencies of the charged particles suspended therein. The approach is suitable for use with suspensions having relative permitivity constants of about 15 or less.
