  • Patent number: 4940461
Abstract: A three part filter is provided for attachment to an ostomy bag. One part includes a synthetic plastics base member having a central aperture and one flat surface whereby the filter can be attached to the bag wall. There are two walls upstanding from the other side of the base member to define a channel. The inner wall defines a shallow recess. The second part is a pad of filtering medium. The third part is a lid member of synthetic plastics material, with apertures through its top wall; the lid being a snug push fit within the channel. With this arrangement the lid member is readily removable to allow replacement of the filter pad.

  • Patent number: 4939965
Abstract: The invention relates to cutting and the like tools and is particularly concerned with the cutting of an internal weld bead from within plastics pipes. It is well-known to remove an external weld bead from the junction between two plastics pipes, not only to provide a smooth external profile but also to allow the weld between the pipes to be inspected. The costs and difficulties in removing the internal beads at the welded junction has frequently resulted in the internal bead being left, and when the internal weld cannot be inspected, and turbulence created in gas or fluid being driven through the pipeline results in a higher power requirement.

  • Patent number: 4940512
Abstract: A process for making a wet-laid, elongate, nonwoven flexible sheet having an additive distributed in a predetermined cross-directional pattern includes providing two synthetic fibrous stocks containing the additive in a concentration higher in one stock than in the other stock. The stocks are supplied to a paper machine having a headbox for depositing the stocks on a wire to form a wet sheet with the stocks being introduced into the headbox from a plurality of cross-directional positions equally spaced-apart along the headbox with a generally equal amount of solids being introduced at each position and with the stock with the higher concentration being introduced in higher quantity than the other stock at least at one cross-directional position so that the additive is distributed in the predetermined cross-directional pattern.

  • Patent number: 4939589
Abstract: The invention provides for deciding whether a recording dot is to be printed for the reproduction of scan dots. The scan dots being considered are compiled in an input switching network into groups, for which an arithmetic processor determines the tonal value sum. The arithmetic processor emits a signal, if the tonal value sum exceeds a certain figure. The recording dot to be printed is determined by the presence of the signal in an output switching network. This process is performed successively for increasingly larger areas of the original, that is, for increasingly larger quantities of scan dots.

  • Patent number: 4938750
Abstract: A member in the form of an overfilm or molded housing affixed to the pouch wall has a plurality of isolated vent passages. A separate filter assembly is situated in each of the passages. Adhesive coated covers are situated to obstruct the flow through all but a selected one of the passages. After the filter in the unobstructed passage has lost its effectiveness, the cover is removed from another passage and placed over the passage containing the used filter to obstruct same. The filter in each passage is used, in turn, by appropriate movement of the cover, until all of the filters have been used.

  • Patent number: 4939510
Abstract: A method and apparatus for identification of packet collisions which occur on a broadband communication bus. The collision detection apparatus is responsive to signals which normally reside on an RF packet channel. This apparatus identifies a collision by splitting a packet signal and then multiplying the split signal by itself utilizing a conventional mixer. The multiplied signal is passed through a bandpass filter and if no packet collision has occurred, then no significant signal energy will appear at the output of the bandpass filter. Howerever, in the event of a packet collision, then the multiplied output signal includes frequency components which pass through the bandpass filter to produce an energy level which is identified in a threshold detector.

  • Patent number: 4939721
Abstract: A node for a fast packet-switching network in optical-electrical technology comprises an optical switching matrix and electrical control equipment which processes the signalling and the information packet headers. More particularly, the control equipment updates the label and, depending on such a label, searches for the routing through the node. A centralized node controller processes the signalling, while a distributed processing system processes the packet headers and routes the packets through the network. For all communications in progress, the distributed processing system periodically forwards routing requests to an electrical self-routing switching matrix associated with the optical matrix. When a connection path has been found between an input and an output of the electrical matrix, the same path is reproduced in the optical matrix and the packets are transferred to the node output through the optical matrix.
