C. at essentially atmospheric pressure. A second azeotrope-like mixture contains about 87-97 weight percent 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane, about 2-8 weight percent cis-1,2-dichloroethylene and about 1-5 weight percent isopropanol and boils at about 45.degree. C. at essentially atmospheric pressure. A third azeotrope-like mixture contains about 88-98 weight percent 1,2,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane, about 1-7 weight percent cis-1,2-dichloroethylene, about 1-5 weight percent isopropanol and about 0.1-2.0 weight percent nitromethane.
Abstract: A variable-length prefix/suffix step code is combined with words for high frequency transmission. The words with the code attached are compacted into constant length packets at the transmission end and are successively extracted at the receive end. The code permits the two operations of extraction and decoding to be separated at the receive end; this is essential in high speed applications where these operations cannot be performed simultaneously within one clock cycle. The code also permits the extraction operation to be simplified by considerably reducing the size of the necessary hardware. The efficiency of processing messages with a particular probability distribution (e.g. video signals) is very high (97-98%).

Abstract: The value of a transverse moment of any order of the electromagnetic field associated with an optical beam (and in particular the spot-size of such a beam) is determined by two successive measurements of the optical power of the beam: one measurement is a direct measurement, the other is effected after spatially modulating the transverse distribution of the electromagnetic field by a factor proportional to the n-th power of the transverse coordinate of the beam, n being the moment order. The moment can be obtained from the ratio between the two measurements. The invention includes also the apparatus for carrying out the method.

C. or higher, low indices of refraction, and good physical properties, and low dielectric constants, which make them suitable for cladding optical fibers as well as for many electronics applications, including the manufacture of substrates for circuit boards. They all are soluble at room temperature in perfluoro(2-butyltetrahydrofuran), which makes it practical to apply them as coatings from solution.

Abstract: In a process for degassing and filtering liquids, particularly coating emulsions, a feed stream (F) is subdivided into a process stream (N), which is fed continuously to a process use through a main filter (16), and a recycled fractional stream. The fractional stream (T) is used to backflush successive sections of the main filter (16) and in turn is filtered through a supplementary filter (21, 22). In the apparatus for the process, a backflushing device (17) is associated with the main filter (16), the fractional stream (T) is used as a flushing means and the filter surface of the main filter (16) is cleaned progressively. Thus, a liquid with a continually constant grain size distribution, without gas bubbles and particles that cause defects, can be delivered continuously to the specific use.
Abstract: A package for cooking a waffle in a microwave oven is provided, comprising a microwave transparent tray about 28 to 38 mm deep, a lossy susceptor film lid having defined reflectance and absorbance, placed about 3 to about 10 mm over the waffle, providing means for moisture to escape. The waffle is coated with an edible food conditioner, to provide improved microwave susceptibility to the surfaces of the waffle. The waffle may be cooked alone or in the presence of a sausage side dish.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for enabling viscous fluids to be discharged from a container. The container is provided with an outlet positioned for gravity discharge of the contents. Microwave energy is delivered to an inlet opening of the container for the purpose of heating the stored fluids in a controlled area which includes the inlet and outlet. The microwave energy is effective to heat the viscous fluids to a flowable state while fluids are simultaneously discharged from the outlet. The energy level can be controlled based on the level of viscous fluid in the tank so that the viscous fluid is not overheated.
