Abstract: Cables having interspersed co-planar signal and ground wires are terminated at a planar circuit board by stapling the cable to the circuit board with a bus member, mechanically and electrically connecting the signal wires to signal wire termination sites which are downstream from the bus member, folding the ground wires back over the bus member, and mechanically and electrically connecting the ground wires to the bus member.
Abstract: Plasmapheresis by filtration can be carried out with high efficiency for long periods by conducting blood over a surface of a membrane and passing plasma at an accelerating rate until the threshold level is attained, maintaining the rate of passing plasma until the ceiling system transmembrane pressure difference is attained and then reducing the passing of plasma and the system transmembrane pressure difference and allowing the membrane to clear before repeating the cycle.
Abstract: Adhesive pouch connecting rings with radially extending gripping portions are formed and stacked in angularly offset relation on a plurality of ostomy faceplates in a highly automated fashion. Sets of rings are die cut from a continuous adhesive coated sheet. Each set includes a plurality of spaced, identically oriented rings, in an arcuate pattern across the sheet. The sheet is intermittently advanced to bring the sets, one at a time, into alignment with faceplates located on a round platform. The platform is indexed to move the faceplates stepwise through a path coincident with the pattern of the ring sets. Each time the platform is indexed, a set of rings is removed from the sheet and the rings are placed on the respective faceplates, each in proper angular relation with the previous rings. Faceplates with a full complement of rings are removed from the platform.
Abstract: Antibacterial activity is exhibited by 2-azetidinones activated in the 1-position with an --SO.sub.3 H group and having in the 3-position an acylamino group of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is --(CH.sub.2).sub.
Abstract: Substituted fluorobenzenes are produced by pyrolyzing vinylfluorocyclobutanes at a temperature of 250.degree.-450.degree. C. in the presence of activated carbon or certain metal oxides or mixtures of metal oxides.
Abstract: Pyridine compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.4 is aryl or heterocyclo are disclosed. These compounds are useful as cardiovascular agents due to their calcium entry blocking vasodilator activity.
Abstract: Hydroxy functional polysiloxane graft copolymers are provided. The copolymer is crosslinkable by hydroxy-reactive crosslinking agent and, in particular, is suitable for use in thermosetting coating compositions adapted to form a flexible cured coating over a variety of substrates, such as metal and plastic. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight between about 1000 and about 15,000, has a hydroxyl number between about 30 and about 300, and is the reaction product of carbon-carbon double bond-reactive monoethylenically unsaturated monomer with hydroxy functional carbon-carbon double bond-bearing branched polysiloxane macromer. The macromer is the reaction product of (i) epoxy monomer having the formula: ##STR1## with (ii) hydroxy functional polysiloxane reactant containing 0-10 urethane linkages per molecule.
Abstract: Novel furan- and thiophenesulfonamides such as 3-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3-5-triazin-2-yl)aminocarbo nyl]-2-thiophenesulfonamide and N-[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]-3-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)-2-thi ophenesulfonamide are highly active pre-emergent and/or post-emergent herbicides.
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for the rapid detection and (or) purification of analytes in a sample. The system makes use of a fluid receptacle containing a capture reagent and a manifold having two ports. A sample containing an analyte disposed within the fluid receptacle is subjected to a capture reagent and processed by inserting the open end of the receptacle in one port. Vacuum, gas, reagents, and wash fluids are then applied to the second port to effect rapid interaction between the capture reagent and analyte, efficient washing of the capture reagent and detection and/or collection of the analyte. The system and method provide a rapid safe, uncomplicated means of automating processes based on affinity complexation principles. Encompassed within this category of processes are immunoassays, nucleic acid hybridization tests and affinity separations.

Abstract: Amorphous copolymer of perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxide with at least one fluoro comonomer selected from one or more of ten defined classes having a recited minimum mole proportion of perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole, in no event less than 65%, have high glass transition temperatures of 140.degree. C. or higher, low indices of refraction, and good physical properties, and low dielectric constants, which make them suitable for cladding optical fibers as well as for many electronics applications, including the manufacture of subtrates for circuit boards. They all are soluble at room temperature in perfluoro (2-butyltetrahydrofuran), which makes it practical to apply them as coatings from solution.
Abstract: An organophillic clay gellant which is readily dispersible in unsaturated polyester resin compositions without requiring first being dispersed in styrene to form a pregel, and the process of preparation thereof, are described.

Abstract: A centrifuge rotor is characterized by a pair of magnetically attractive segments which are located between a clamping knob on an axially extending mounting bolt and the body of the rotor. The bolt holds the rotor to a drive spindle with a predetermined clamping force. As the rotor is rotated past a predetermined rotational speed the attractive force between the segments is overcome to cause the segments to displace apart thereby diminishing the magnitude of the clamping force holding the rotor in its connection to the drive spindle.
Abstract: A crimped fiber having a plurality of cells and bends characterized by the total area occupied by the cells within a cross-section of the fiber at the bends being less than 50% of the area occupied by the cells within a cross-section of the fiber at other than the bends.
Abstract: A mop bucket insert for maintaining a portion of a cleaning liquid contained in a bucket free of suspended solids. A platform spaced above the bottom of the bucket and side walls coupled with the platform substantially segregated solids which have settled in the compartment formed between the bucket bottom and platform, preventing suspension of these solids when a mop agitates the liquid. The platform provides a surface against which a cleaning instrument may be applied to remove solids entrained in the fibrous elements of the mop.
