Abstract: A storable magnesium oxide/phosphate based cement having a delayed set time is provided by heating iron-containing magnesium oxide particles at an elevated temperature to provide magnesium ferrate in a gradient that increases to a maximum at the external particle surface.
Abstract: A composition comprising a blend of about 70-20 weight percent crystalline polyethylene resin and 30-80 weight percent emulsion-derived polychloroprene gel is disclosed. The blend is prepared by blending the two materials at a temperature near to or above the melting point of the polyethylene.
Abstract: In motor-operated machines, especially portable electric tools, it is essential to prevent an impermissibly high torque on the driveshaft or operating spindle. This is attained by means of a torque-disengagement mechanism. An especially elegant, compact, precisely responsive torque-disengagement mechanism is attained by mounting one of the two bearings for a driveshaft in the machine housing or similar structure in such a way that it can move across the longitudinal axis or radially far enough to initiate a switching procedure. The bearing is secured in an initial position by means of an opposing force. The position represents both the zero position for the switching procedure and the correct position of the axis of the driveshaft during operation. If the machine includes a means of varying the torque, the power of the opposing force can be adjusted and maintained either continuously or discontinuously.

Abstract: This invention relates to herbicidally active propylene oxide derivatives, agriculturally suitable compositions thereof, and a method of using them as herbicides or plant growth regulants.
Abstract: A method for determining an acceptacle splice point is provided to facilitate splicing of a first segment of an audio signal to a second segment thereof. According to the method, an audio signal is converted into a sequence of samples and first and second edit points are selected along the sequence. The first edit point represents a nominal ending point of the first audio segment, and the second edit point represents a nominal starting point of the second audio segment. According to the method, a plurality of samples in a correlation window following the first edit point are weighted and correlated with a plurality of weighted samples in a correlation window following the second edit point for each position of the second edit point. The position of the second edit point is then shifted to the next sample in the sequence. After the correlation is calculated for each position of the second edit point, the location of an acceptable splice point can be determined.
Abstract: A centrifugal analysis device is provided in which a plastic rotor has peripheral cells each containing a reagent. The rotor is configured such that sample fluid within a central receptacle is equally dispensed to each of the peripheral cells. An outlet orifice is positioned at a radial distance greater than the inlet orifice to each cell such that each cell is permitted (1) to be completely filled with fluid and (2) simultaneously such that all reactions take place at the same beginning point.
Abstract: Substituted benzoate ester prodrugs of .beta.-estradiol and ethynyl estradiol are provided which have improved bioavailability and extended duration of action when administered orally.
Abstract: A controlled release pharmaceutical formulation which undergoes substantially or approaches zero order release of active drug is provided, preferably in the form of a coated tablet, containing a core portion from which medicament, such as procainamide hydrochloride, is slowly released over a controlled length of time. The core also includes one or more primary hydrocolloid gelling agents which is a hydropropylmethyl cellulose having a viscosity of within the range of from about 1,000 to about 6,000 centipoises in 2% solution at 20.degree. C., and a methoxyl content of 28-30%, optionally a secondary hydrocarbon gelling agent, such as hydroxypropyl cellulose and/or methyl cellulose, one or more non-swellable binders and/or wax binders (where the medicament and/or hydrocolloid gelling agents are non-compressible), one or more inert fillers or excipients, one or more lubricants, and optionally one or more anti-adherents such as silicon dioxide and water.

Abstract: This invention relates to herbicidally active sulfonamide compounds having an ortho cyclic saturated or partially saturated group which includes a carbonyl or sulfonyl radical.
Abstract: Fluorescent dry nonelectroscopic toner comprising fluorescent pigmented organic resin particles having a size distribution of 0.2 to 50 micrometers, surface coated with at least 0.1% by weight of silicone oil or fluorocarbon compound, in combination with at least 0.5% by weight of a water soluble, polymeric quaternary ammonium compound as defined. The fluorescent toner is useful in color developing positive- and negative-working photosensitive elements. The toners provide good toning quality and excellent lack of background color, together with stability on aging.
Abstract: The invention comes within the scope of the transportation and sorting systems for articles such as postal articles and refers in particular to a belt conveyor. The conveyor in question includes a plurality of motor-driven conveyor belts arranged close to a plurality of containers for the collection of the sorted articles. According to this invention the conveyor belts are vertically superimposed on the containers and are defined by a plurality of adjacent conveyor units, each of which may be individually driven to oscillate in such a way as to convey the carried articles downwards, directly into the containers.

Abstract: Tobacco varieties exhibiting agronomically useful resistance to N-(heterocyclicaminocarbonyl)arylsulfonamide herbicides are produced by tissue culture selection techniques.
Abstract: Cyclic aryl hydroxamic acids and derivatives thereof are provided having the structure ##STR1## wherein R is H or arylalkyl, and including acid-addition salts thereof. These compounds are useful as inhibitors of leukotriene production and as such are useful as antiallergy, anti-inflammatory and anti-psoriatic agents.
Abstract: A compact and lightweight knee joint for a prosthetic leg that can be locked or released with low operating forces comprises upper and lower members interconnected by a pin at a posterior location. A latch pivoted to one of the members for rotation about a vertical axis releasably locks into a recess in the other member to hold the joint in its extended position. The upper member has depending cheeks between which a head of the lower member is received. Adjoining horizontal faces of the upper and lower members are planar and a pad of elastomeric material attached to one of the planar surfaces serves as an extension stop buffer. The latch is blade-like and of bell-crank shape. It fits into slots in the anterior edge of each cheek and is pivoted in one of the slots with an anterior lever thereof spanning between the slots and with a latch head thereof fitting into the other slot. A cable release is fitted to the medial/lateral lever for release of the latch.

Abstract: This invention relates to herbicidally active sulfonamide compounds, agriculturally suitable compositions thereof and a method of their use as general and/or selective herbicides or plant growth regulants. More specifically the herbicidally active sulfonamides of this invention have an ortho cyclic saturated or partially saturated group which includes a carbonyl or sulfonyl radical. In the most common situation, the control of undesired vegetation is desired to permit the growth of useful crops such as cotton, rice, corn, wheat and soybeans, to name a few. Unchecked weed growth in such useful crops can cause significant losses, reducing profit to the farmer and increasing costs to the consumer. In other situations, herbicides are desired which will control all plant growth. Examples of areas in which complete control of all vegetation is desired and areas around fuel storage tanks, ammunition depots and industrial storage areas.
