  • Patent number: 4758754
Abstract: In motor-operated machines, especially portable electric tools, it is essential to prevent an impermissibly high torque on the driveshaft or operating spindle. This is attained by means of a torque-disengagement mechanism. An especially elegant, compact, precisely responsive torque-disengagement mechanism is attained by mounting one of the two bearings for a driveshaft in the machine housing or similar structure in such a way that it can move across the longitudinal axis or radially far enough to initiate a switching procedure. The bearing is secured in an initial position by means of an opposing force. The position represents both the zero position for the switching procedure and the correct position of the axis of the driveshaft during operation. If the machine includes a means of varying the torque, the power of the opposing force can be adjusted and maintained either continuously or discontinuously.

  • Patent number: 4757540
Abstract: A method for determining an acceptacle splice point is provided to facilitate splicing of a first segment of an audio signal to a second segment thereof. According to the method, an audio signal is converted into a sequence of samples and first and second edit points are selected along the sequence. The first edit point represents a nominal ending point of the first audio segment, and the second edit point represents a nominal starting point of the second audio segment. According to the method, a plurality of samples in a correlation window following the first edit point are weighted and correlated with a plurality of weighted samples in a correlation window following the second edit point for each position of the second edit point. The position of the second edit point is then shifted to the next sample in the sequence. After the correlation is calculated for each position of the second edit point, the location of an acceptable splice point can be determined.

  • Patent number: 4755211
Abstract: This invention relates to herbicidally active sulfonamide compounds, agriculturally suitable compositions thereof and a method of their use as general and/or selective herbicides or plant growth regulants. More specifically the herbicidally active sulfonamides of this invention have an ortho cyclic saturated or partially saturated group which includes a carbonyl or sulfonyl radical. In the most common situation, the control of undesired vegetation is desired to permit the growth of useful crops such as cotton, rice, corn, wheat and soybeans, to name a few. Unchecked weed growth in such useful crops can cause significant losses, reducing profit to the farmer and increasing costs to the consumer. In other situations, herbicides are desired which will control all plant growth. Examples of areas in which complete control of all vegetation is desired and areas around fuel storage tanks, ammunition depots and industrial storage areas.
