Abstract: A telephone booth wherein the sidewalls are box-like enclosures each having one or more advertising displays. The displays are illuminated by a light source located in the interior of each enclosure and the same light source also serves to illuminate the interior of the booth. The sidewall enclosures have an openable panel which permits the advertising displays to be changed from time to time as well as permitting access to the light source.

Abstract: An optical-fiber-based spectrometer utilizes a compact, P-C-board-mountable optical multiplexer which permits multiple channels of reference and measurement data from remote and hostile environments to be analyzed in rapid sequence utilizing synchronized computer data-storage and comparison to give rapid-fire answers to the question of the presence or absence of species of interest in a sample or process being analyzed, the relative light level in the reference and data channels being balanced by an optical attenuator having only an air path, attenuation being effected by controlled misalignment of optical fiber ends.
Abstract: Particulate polyimide molding resin characterized by high surface area and low crystallinity and molded articles prepared therefrom having unusually high toughness.
Abstract: This invention relates to herbicidally active sulfonamide compounds, agriculturally suitable compositions thereof and a method of their use as general and/or selective herbicides or plant growth regulants. More specifically the herbicidally active sulfonamides of this invention have an ortho cyclic saturated or partially saturated group which includes a carbonyl or sulfonyl radical. In the most common situation, the control of undesired vegetation is desired to permit the growth of useful crops such as cotton, rice, corn, wheat and soybeans, to name a few. Unchecked weed growth in such useful crops can cause significant losses, reducing profit to the farmer and increasing costs to the consumer. In other situations, herbicides are desired which will control all plant growth. Examples of areas in which complete control of all vegetation is desired and areas around fuel storage tanks, ammunition depots and industrial storage areas.
Abstract: Hydraulic-exchange pumping device comprising two containers or tanks, inside each of which there are defined: a chamber for the product to be pumped, which is respectively connected, through a delivery valve and a suction valve, to the lines of delivery and of intake of the product to be pumped, as well as a chamber for the hydraulic drive fluid, which is connected to a pump through a four-way, three-position distribution box. This partitioning is accomplished by means of an internal elastic membrane having a decreasing thickness from the its peripheral edge towards its central zone, which can be also equipped with a strengthening cloth embedded inside it, as well as with a set of metal rings having a cross-section surface area decreasing towards the center of the same membrane.

Abstract: A wide-dynamic-range wide latitude silver halide film is used for X-ray intensifying screen exposure and subsequent computer enhancement of the images produced thereon. The enhanced image is equivalent to images produced by a host of individual films and screens.
Abstract: A system for feeding and controlling low intensity obstruction lights, involving low power drain especially in radio stations powered by solar cells includes:a sub-system which not only generates the energy necessary to feed the obstruction light, but also detects solar intensity;a control sub-system which delivers energy to the obstruction lights, triggered in correspondence to a light threshold, generates indicator signals on the operating state of the main on/off switch and the power circuit breaker and generates a lamp failure control for telemetering purposes and fault controls for the individual obstruction lights for local displaying purposes; and a low luminous intensity and low power drain lighting sub-system.

Abstract: A method of and apparatus for machining a blade (1) having a plurality of cutting teeth positions with each such position mounting a material cutting tip (7) having faces (13, 16) which co-operate to provide the cutting edge(s) or cutting profile (19) of the teeth, in which the machining of said faces of any tooth is completed before commencing the machining or corresponding faces of next tip to be machined.
Abstract: A process for diffusing and subliming water-soluble and water-insoluble materials into never-dried, water-swollen aromatic polyamide fibers, using steam heated at certain temperatures.
Abstract: N-(heterocyclicaminocarbonyl)arylsulfonamides in which aryl radical is substituted in the 2-position by a carboxy radical, ester, thioester, or amide thereof; e.g. N-[(4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl)-aminocarbonyl]-2-methoxycarbonylbenzenesul fonamide or N-[(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]-2-methoxycarbonylbenze nesulfonamide; are useful for the regulation of plant growth and as pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicides.
Abstract: An open ended ostomy pouch having a folding bar attached to the bottom of the pouch. The folding bar extends on both sides beyond the width of the pouch at the bottom opening and includes interlocking closure components on opposite ends.
Abstract: A method for controlling nematodes at a locus which comprises applying to the nematodes or the locus a nematicidally-effective amount of O,O-diethyl O-(1,2,2,2-tetrachloroethyl)phosphorothioate.
Abstract: A centrifuge rotor is characterized by a protrusion on the undersurface thereof which is received by a conjoinable pair of collar members. Each collar has a recess therein which cooperate to receive a drive spud from the rotor drive. A prestressed arrangement exerts a compressive force of a predetermined magnitude on the collar members to hold them together. The compressive force is progressively relieved as the rotor is rotated to a predetermined speed. Thereafter, increased rotor speed imposes a centrifugal force on the prestressed arrangement to cause it to fail in tension, thereby permitting the collar members to separate and thus release the rotor from its engagement with the drive.
Abstract: Solvent-based thermosetting coating composition comprising a hydroxy functional epoxy ester resin, linear polycaprolactone diol and blocked polyisocyanate crosslinking agent. The coating composition may be formulated as hot sprayable, high solids coating composition suitable for use as chip resistant automotive vehicle primer adapted for use on body panel areas subject to chipping by stones, gravel and other road debris. Alternatively, the composition may be formulated as a high solids composition sprayable with conventional spraying equipment. The hydroxy functional epoxy ester resin is the reaction product of diepoxide chain extended with aliphatic diol and chain terminated with acid component comprising primary hydroxy functional acid.

Abstract: A drive network for an ultrasonic probe includes a network operative to apply a pulse to a feedback terminal of a phase comparator substantially simultaneously with the application at the probe of an excitation signal from a source at a predetermined frequency. This insures that at the start-up of the drive network the frequency of the feedback signal to the phase comparator leads the excitation signal also being applied thereto, to cause the excitation signal from the source to increase toward the resonant frequency of the probe, thereby to search for the resonant frequency of the probe.
Abstract: A worker platform for sandblasting a cylindrical fuel storage tank includes a lookout frame section secured to the tank top that has an arm extending radially outward beyond the tank wall and a roller assembly supporting the arm for circumferential movement about the tank. A stage is suspended by a winch from the arm, and a square cross-sectioned standpipe is captured within upper and lower square guide channels formed at the center of the stage and by a yoke at the outer extent of the arm. The standpipe has a base plate with projections or spikes to penetrate the ground. The winch moves the stage up and down with the standpipe passing vertically through the guide channels and providing stability against swinging, twisting and tilting. For circumferential movement, a pin temporarily locks the standpipe for lifting with the stage. Lookout frame embodiments are given for both solid and floating tank tops.
Abstract: A solid photopolymerizable composition, contains addition polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer, initiating system, polymer binder and a microgel wherein preferably the binder and microgel form substantially a single phase and have a similar glass transition temperature above 25.degree. C. Although less preferred the solid composition can function without the binder. A preferred use is as a photoresist.
