Abstract: In an improved process for the electrolysis of sulfate-containing brine in a membrane cell, the thickness of the membrane, the concentration of sodium sulfate in the brine and the current density through the membrane in the operating cell are controlled to prevent sulfate damage to the membranes.
Abstract: An optical coupler adapted to feed a plurality of optical fibers with light radiation coming from a single fiber or, conversely, to transmit to a single fiber the radiation coming from a plurality of fibers. A round paraboloid receives the optical beams condensed by hemispherical lenses placed in front of the fiber end faces and concentrates them on the end face of the output fiber through a hemispherical lens.

Abstract: A non-electric detonator device having a tubular shell that is closed at its bottom end and containinga base charge of a detonating explosive at the bottom of the shell,a priming charge of a heat sensitive detonating explosive composition adjacent to the base charge,a rupturable membrane that seals the top end of the shell and forms an open volume between the priming charge and the top end of the shell anda holder for holding a low energy detonating cord (LEDC) in abutting relationship to the membrane:whereby on detonation of the LEDC the membrane is ruptured and the priming charge is initiated which in turn initiates the detonating explosive.
Abstract: The aeration of dispersions, especially the aeration of fiber suspensions in a flotation apparatus 1, is performed with a ring injector 2 to which air is delivered through air feed ducts 11 in the mixing section 4. The annular gap forming in the ring injector 2 is thus aerated inside and out. The center core 7, which tapers in the direction of the greatest free cross section Q4 of the ring injector 2, is provided with a fin 56 which prevents the rotation of the dispersion.

Abstract: An edge connector for electrically contacting a substrate. The substrate is held within connector housing by the force provided by a clamp means hingedly disposed within a cutout in the housing. The clamp means includes a spring portion, a clamp portion and a strike portion. The insertion of the substrate causes the clamp means through the action of all three portions to secure the substrate within the housing. The substrate can be released by hand.
Abstract: An improved friction heater with driveshaft that rotates one frictional part relative to another interfitted with it provides, on the driveshaft, screw-and-inertia member to release frictional force between the frictional parts when the frictional parts are being stopped, permitting use of a less powerful drive for start-up and lighter structural support. The interfitted frictional parts are conical in shape and also have automatic-driveshaft release to prevent overheating from wear at the frictional interface after long use. The release provision includes a slot in the lower part of the rotor and a transverse pin in the driveshaft, that engages the slot for normal driving operation. When as result of wear, the relative axial position of rotor and housing changes sufficiently to pass out of the range of normal operation, the slot and pin automatically and correspondingly pass from engagement with each other.

Abstract: A prosthetic foot comprises a hollow elastomeric cosmesis having a relatively large internal space, a keel of relatively stiff or rigid material, and a stiffener of glass reinforced plastics fitted between keel and instep region of the cosmesis. Front and rear snubbers extend from keel and front and rear stiffeners being portions of stiffener extend from under the keel with radiused ends resting on the sole of the cosmesis. During ambulation the stiffeners provide a primary path by which ground reaction is transmitted to the keel, but ground reaction bringing the stiffeners into contact with the snubbing means is transmitted to the keel via an overload path through the snubbing means.
Abstract: Glycoside products are successfully prepared directly from aqueous saccharide solutions or syrups, and with acceptably low levels of undesired higher polysaccharide by-products, by dissolving same in the desired alcohol reactant and contacting the resulting homogeneous aqueous saccharide+alcohol solution with an acid catalyst material in a fashion such that substantially no separate or distinct, predominantly aqueous saccharide solution phase is permitted to come into contact with said acid catalyst material under conditions conducive to homopolymerization of said saccharide reactant.

Abstract: The broad-band integrator uses bipolar transistors with single low-value integration capacitor, that is why it is easy to integrate. A bias circuit, which can be integrated, allows both the gain-bandwidth product (G*B) and the absolute values of the currents in the transistors to be programmed by two external resistors. A plurality of integrators, typically sixteen, can be connected to the same bias circuit thanks to their small power consumption.
