  • Patent number: 4716202
Abstract: A process for forming ionomer resins neutralized with aluminum is disclosed. In the process a copolymer containing carboxylic acid groups is melt blended in the absence of water with an aluminum compound of the formula ##STR1## where m is 0-2, n is 1-3 and the mixture treated with a volatile organic acid such as glacial acetic acid to activate the reaction between the acid groups of the copolymer and the aluminum compound. The organic acid is then removed from the copolymer by vaporization. Optionally, a moisture scavenger such as acetic anhydride is used to remove water which is incidentally present or formed by the reaction of the aluminum compound.

Abstract: Polymers containing by weight (i) from about 50 to about 85 parts of units derived from at least one monomer (FM) having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.f is straight or branched-chain perfluoroalkyl containing 4-20 carbons;R is H or CH.sub.3 ; andn is an integer from 1-15;and (ii) from about 50 to about 15 parts of units derived from 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate and/or acrylate (CHPM/A) or their bromo analogs. Preferably, the polymers contain by weight between 65 and 75 parts of units derived from FM and 35-25 parts of units derived form CHPM/A, particularly a copolymer consisting essentially by weight of 75 percent of a mixture of FM and 25 percent of CHPM. Polymers impart superior oil- and water-repellency and anti-soiling characteristics to fibrous substrates, and may be applied as a spin finish, particularly to nylon filaments.

  • Patent number: 4715825
Abstract: A pierce contact element for a connector with a housing in which the end of a cable with one or more insulated conductors is inserted. The pierce contact has a pointed part intended to pierce into an insulated conductor and a contact crown intended to make contact with the contact strip or contact wire of a matching connector housing. The contact crown is shaped so that its radius of curvature is larger than half the width of the contact crown in order to reduce wear on the surface contacting the strip or wire of the matching connector. In one embodiment, pierce contact is designed so that its pointed part pierces in the longitudinal direction into the end face of the conductor.

  • Patent number: 4715551
Abstract: A self-locking chuck which can clamp the hollow core of a bobbin to a rotor has two nuts which mate with externally threaded sections of the rotor and have threads inclined in opposite directions or threads of different pitch so that they move axially toward or away from each other in response to joint rotation relative to the rotor or vice versa. The nuts are surrounded by two or more axially parallel torque transmitting segments whose external surfaces are movable into torque-transmitting engagement with the internal surface of a core in response to joint rotation of the nuts relative to the rotor. To this end, the inner sides of the segments are provided with a first set of cam faces and the outer sides of the nuts are provided with a second set of cam faces which cooperate with the cam faces of the segments to move the segments radially outwardly in response to joint rotation of the nuts relative to the rotor.
