  • Patent number: 4677884
Abstract: A portable end prep lathe having presettable mechanical structure operable in response to rotation of a tool head for controlling the angle of a bevel cut on a pipe.A frame is supported relative to a pipe by a mast having a threaded section. The frame carries a rotatable tool head having a tool slide movable to advance a tool radially of the mast. The rate of radial advance of the tool slide is controlled by cam and cam follower structure mounted on the frame and tool head, respectively, and with the number of cams controlling the rate of advance per revolution of the tool head. The tool head is advanced axially of the mast and a pipe by means responsive to rotation of the tool head, including a star wheel mounted on the frame and drivingly connected to a nut threaded on the threaded section of the mast.

  • Patent number: 4678693
Abstract: Insulating fabric having a knitted base fabric incorporating air-entrapping cells on one or both sides. The base fabric is knit from a high bulk acrylic yarn and a combination polyester and cotton yarn, the yarns being knitted separately in selected fabric courses. The inner face of the fabric is formed of the high bulk yarn, to provide a soft, warm and comfortable interior surface when worn. The outer face of the fabric is formed of the polyester/cotton yarn, which provides a knitted framework for anchoring and stabilizing the high bulk yarn in the fabric. Following knitting, the fabric is subjected to a series of finishing operations which include scouring, padding, drying, napping and calendering. As the result of repeated washings, the insulating fabric of the invention increases in thickness to enhance its heat insulating capability and provide increased warmth.

  • Patent number: 4678848
Abstract: Sulfur-modified chloroprene polymers and copolymers can be prepared by a free-radical polymerization process in an alkaline, aqueous emulsion, wherein a thiuram disulfide having aliphatic, acyclic or cyclic substituents on both nitrogen atoms, the total number of carbon atoms of those substituents being 12-24, also is present. This process avoids the time-consuming separate peptization step and reduces the capital requirements by eliminating peptization tanks and their associated equipment.

  • Patent number: 4676718
Abstract: An impeller for a pump, especially a vortex pump, provided with one or more straight or curved vanes arranged radially. Vortex pumps are used e.g. for pumping sewage, for which purpose they are well adapted. However, a drawback with such pumps known so far has been a rather low efficiency and a low lift curve. In the vortex pump of the invention, this problem is eliminated by providing the edges of the vanes with flanges essentially perpendicular to the vane surface.

  • Patent number: 4677402
Abstract: A microwave filter which is optimized to reduce its dimensions, weight, cost, and manufacturabiity includes a filter body which is preferably manufactured by pressure die-casting of an aluminum alloy. In the filter body are formed a plurality of cavities in which resonators as well as tuning and connection screws are located. The cavities are so located with respect to each other that a line which joins the centers thereof appears as the series of connected line segments which are inclined with respect to each other at angles which exceed 90.degree.. To compensate the filter for the relatively larger coefficient of expansion associated with the use of die-castable alloys, the resonators and tuning screws employ materials which are different than that used in the filter body. Electrical losses are minimized by varying, from cavity to cavity, the ratio of the diameter of the cavity to that of the resonator. The weight of the filter is further reduced by cavities or voids which are formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4676535
Abstract: An all plastic fastener adapted, in one embodiment, for use as a seal for a coin bag or the like, and in another embodiment as a cable tie or the like. The seal comprises a housing having an aperture therethrough and an integral shackle extending from the housing for insertion into the housing opening. The shackle has ratchet teeth along the outer edges, and the housing has internal means for engaging the ratchet teeth when the shackle is pulled through the opening, to prevent reverse movement of the shackle in the housing. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the shackle has an axial slot disposed in the portion having the teeth to allow the sides of the shackle to flex together when it is drawn through the housing. When used as a security seal, a locking member may be inserted into the slot between the shackle portions in the housing to maintain them pressed outwardly into engagement with the locking members in the housing.
