  • Publication number: 20060199173
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for characterizing spheroids. The to-be-characterized spheroid is introduced into a tube of an electrically insulating material and with an inner diameter which is smaller than the diameter of the to-be-characterized spheroid in such a manner that the latter is in mechanical contact over the entire circumference with the inner wall of the electrically insulated tube. Electrodes are disposed on both sides of the spheroid in the tube. By means of these electrodes, a current flow can be generated through the spheroid and the resulting drop in voltage at the spheroid can be measured. The invented arrangement and the corresponding method permits producing an impedance spectrum of spheroids with high sensitivity, thereby realizing rapid and nondestructive characterization of spheroids.

  • Publication number: 20060197597
Abstract: An amplifier circuit is disclosed that allows for practical integrated circuit implementation of a dc-blocked, low-noise differential amplifier capable of amplifying ultra low-frequency signals and amplitudes ranging upwards of a few microvolts. DC-blocking capacitors having a capacitance value close to that of the effective input capacitance of the low-noise amplifier's inputs can be used by incorporating a positive feedback mechanism that tracks any variations in the amplifier gain or integrated circuit's technology process and lowers or cancels the input parasitic capacitances. Advantageously, the parasitic capacitance of transistors, typically field effect transistors, located on an integrated circuit chip are used in the feedback mechanism. This reduces the capacitive voltage division loss of the signal at the input of the amplifier while still allowing for the use of very small values of dc-blocking capacitance.

  • Publication number: 20060200358
Abstract: Multivariate graphs specific to a company's performance, alone or in relation to a benchmark, and methods for producing same include defining on a display screen an origin having a first value, extending from the origin at least three axes on the display screen, the axes being generally equidistant from each other and representing a respective variable, plotting on the display screen a value of each variable concerning the company as a point on a respective axis, and using the plotted points to interpolate first segments between the axes on the display screen. Benchmark information, extrinsic to the company, can be obtained, processed into a rating in the same manner as the company data, and superimposed for ready visual comparison of the company's performance to the obtained benchmark. The benchmark information, if shown, is distinguished from the company's performance graph.

  • Publication number: 20060200459
Abstract: Tiered-access to data from which integrated ratings on companies is derived to users at machines connected to a distributed computer network. All users are presented with a name of a particular company in association with a computed integrated rating through a first interface component. Only a subset of the users is permited to interact with prescribed indicators from which the integrated rating is derived. A rating system accessible through connections to the network executes on a host machine and includes the first interface component. A processor computes each integrated rating as a single rating value by application of a formula to prescribed indicators contained in a database. A second interface component permits only selected users to interact with the prescribed indicators. Optionally, a third interface component enables further specific interactions in response to any permission established by the second interface component.

  • Publication number: 20060197738
Abstract: The electrophoretic device of the present invention obtains a plurality of different optical characteristics by changing a proportion of number of pixel electrodes supplied with a first voltage and a number of pixel electrodes supplied with a second voltage. The transition of the optical characteristics accompanied by the changes of the proportion is previously obtained as an actual measurement value. The preferable proportion displaying the desired optical characteristic is calculated based on the actual measurement value.
