Abstract: In a method for producing a data stream of code words of variable lengths which are divided up into a plurality of sets of code words, wherein a raster having segments is specified for the data stream, wherein two adjacent raster points define a segment, code words of the first sets are written into the data stream starting at raster points. Subsequently, code words of the second set are written into the data stream pursuant to a predetermined assignment rule, wherein each code word of the second set is assigned to a different segment. Entire code words or parts of code words which cannot be written according to their assignment, are stored and entered into the data stream in further attempts, wherein the assignment by a predetermined regulation is changed from attempt to attempt. This procedure is analogously repeated for any further set which may be present.

Abstract: Primary and auxiliary lens assemblies are provided that allow a wearer easy usage with a reduced risk of misalignment or detachment through the use of micromagnets. Conventional magnetic auxiliary lens assemblies are typically not compatible with frameless or rimless designs. The improved assemblies disclosed herein employ magnets embedded in either or both of the auxiliary lens assemblies and the bushings of the primary lens assemblies.
Abstract: A carrier for a flat induction coil of an induction heating device has an upper supporting plate and a lower supporting plate. The plates are mechanically interconnected and form a narrow gap for the introduction of the induction coil formed by a single, continuous coil wire in several windings. As a result of the mutual spacing of the two supporting plates, the coil wire can be secured and is therefore fixed in position.
Abstract: A portable electronic device, for example a cellular telephone or a personal digital assistant, has an internal screen for the display of information, the electronic device also having an external screen arranged to receive information from the electronic device and being capable of displaying this information on an electro-optic medium. There is also provided a cellular telephone having a visual indicator comprising an electro-optic medium having at least two different display states, the electro-optic medium being arranged to change its display state when a call is received by the telephone.

Abstract: An over temperature protection device can be applied to a support surface having a heat conductor. The heat conductor has an interruption forming a gap, on the top of which a tin-based protection element is prefixed by an adhesive. In one embodiment, the ends of the protection element project beyond the heat conductor and are electrically contacted to the heat conductor by a silver/polymer paste.

Abstract: An automatic tuning system for a magnetic field generating tuned circuit includes a processor configured to maintain the resonant frequency of a tuned circuit equal to a reference frequency. The tuned circuit is driven by a power amplifier whose output provides an amplified signal at the reference frequency. The tuned circuit includes a magnetic field generating inductor and a bank of individually switchable capacitors controlled by the processor capable of adding and removing the respective capacitances to and from the tuned circuit. The inductor includes a Faraday shield to shield the tuned circuit from the influence of electric fields. In an embodiment of the invention, the variable capacitor is in the form of a diode variable capacitor (varicap) in parallel circuit relationship with the tuned circuit capacitor and the inductor.

Abstract: A film folding and supplying apparatus for machines for packaging products with stretchable film comprising a pleating means for folding ends of a film traveling in a direction, to modify the width of the film in such a manner that the last edges of the film on the bottom of a product to be wrapped do not laterally project from the bottom of the product. The pleating means cooperates with rolling friction of the traveling film and comprises an elongate, flat and fixed guide having longitudinal edges with projecting rows of flat, idle and rounded edges wheels; and respective lateral guides having projecting rows of flat, idle and wheels with rounded edges which fold the film.
Abstract: Genes have been identified in the Methylomonas genome that are responsive to various metabolic and growth conditions. The identified responsiveness of these genes allows for the use of their promoters in regulated gene expression in C1 metabolizing bacteria. In particular, the hps promoter, which in its native state drives the expression of 3-hexulose-6-phosphate synthase (HPS), was found to be useful for directing expression of heterolgous coding regions (e.g., crtZ) in the obligate methanotroph Methylomonas sp. 16a.

Abstract: A prefabricated cribbing column for supporting a mine roof. The column includes a plurality of concrete cribbing elements the majority of which are interleaved with load transfer disks. Two of the cribbing elements are interleaved with a handle element. The column assembly of cribbing elements, load transfer disks, and handle element are secured together in an integral unit by a steel strap. The handle element extends substantially beyond the outer periphery of the cribbing elements enabling access and lifting by a forklift or similar machinery. The handle element enables the integral column to be easily moved from one location to another. The cribbing elements are preferably constructed of steel fiber reinforced concrete. A column consisting of five cribbing elements has shown to be capable of supporting a load of 575 tons with a deflection of 2.5 inches or less.
Abstract: Novel phosphine and phosphine oxide ligands are prepared using polymeric supports. These compounds can be easily cleaved from the support, and along with the corresponding supported compounds, used as ligands in the preparation of novel, metal-complexed catalysts.
Abstract: A new and distinct cultivar of Buxus semperviresn, ‘Polar’, found in a province of Sweden where the climate is cold (representing zone 4 of the Swedish Hardiness Map) that exhibits exceptional winter hardiness. ‘Polar’ is further characterized by a dense, compact, and medium to broad growth habit and evergreen foliage with leaves that are broadly elliptic in shape, shiny in appearance, and dark green in color that exhibits no substantial change in coloration during the winter. ‘Polar’ is well suited for topiary and for use in parks and gardens in cold climates, where other Boxwood cultivars are inappropriate.
