  • Patent number: 4614478
Abstract: An impeller in a pump, in particular a sewage pump, the passage of which is required to have a given transmission capacity for transmitting the impurities present in the sewage water. When small volumetric flows are being pumped at great delivery lift, it would be advantageous, with a view to achieving good efficiency, to make the passage narrower than the inlet aperture, but up to date it has not been possible to do this without impairing the transmission capacity. In the impeller of the invention, this has been solved in that for achieving sufficient transmission capacity one wider point has been provided in the passage, located between the inlet and outlet margins of the impeller blade.

  • Patent number: 4614476
Abstract: An improved sugar cane grab loader has a hydraulically actuated grab and supporting boom, and a mechanical pushpiler. The pushpiler has floating teeth to prevent undue ground penetration during its scraping action. The teeth move in free but limited fashion in a rearwardly inclined direction. The boom lifts the grab from the soil by a controlled height during closing action of the grab around the cane bundled on the ground.

  • Patent number: 4614799
Abstract: N-methylol derivatives of herbicidal 4-amino-1,2,4-triazine-5-ones can be prepared by reacting formaldehyde with a 4-amino-1,2,4-triazine-5-one slurried in water under basic conditions. The N-methylol derivatives can be surface-modified by slurrying particles of the derivatives in water and treating with a strong acid or strong base, producing a product that releases the original herbicidal 4-amino-1,2,4-triazine-5-one in a controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 4612879
Abstract: In a water tube boiler comprising a housing enclosing tubes bent to form vertical chambers successively traversed by rising hot combustion gases, the tubes being connected at the bottom to the interior of the jacket of a jacketed cylindrical combustion chamber, which jacket is supplied with cold water, and at the top to a steam manifold, the manifold and jacketed chamber project beyond the housing with a downcomer outside the housing connecting the top of the jacket and the lowest part of the manifold, thereby permitting the boiler to operate with a shallow level of water in the manifold, speeding up circulation of water and its heating, and permitting substantially dry steam to be discharged from the upper manifold. The chambers may include baffles which are angled so that the hot gas hits them at an angle less than 90.degree. so as to be deflected thereby in the direction of its advance, thereby avoiding hot spots.

  • Patent number: 4612842
Abstract: A modification to a reel type staple cutter that includes a housing surrounding the cutter reel. The housing has a cam slot sized to permit passage of a single tow but to prevent passage of a knot tieing together two ends of tow. As the cutter turns the knot slides along the outside of the slot reaching the top of the housing. The knot remains on top of the housing until the ends of the knot are cut. Means are provided to remove the knot.

  • Patent number: 4612057
Abstract: A method for the recovery of silver from photographic film having a polyester base and a macromolecular organic polymer coating to which is adhered a light sensitive silver emulsion layer. The process includes mixing small film pieces in a hot aqueous liquid having a solids concentration level of at least 25 percent by volume. The mixture is subjected to conditions of high shear to remove the silver emulsion. The liquid containing the silver emulsion is then separated from the film pieces and the silver is recovered from the liquid.
