Abstract: The process of the invention involves reacting a phenol with a dialkyl disulfide in the presence of a zirconium phenoxide catalyst to prepare the corresponding ortho-(alkylthio)phenol.
Abstract: A planar workpiece such as a printed circuit board or a ceramic substrate for an integrated circuit is aligned by apparatus including three pivotal cams that initially fit relatively loosely in three apertures in the workpiece. As the cams are rotated, they contact the sides of the apertures and thereby urge the workpiece into a centered and aligned position.
Abstract: A tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether copolymer in which heat unstable carbinol end-groups (--CH.sub.2 OH groups) present have been protected against heat degradation by treating the copolymer with NH.sub.3 or NH.sub.3 producing compounds.

Abstract: Stacks of superimposed paper sheets are formed from a succession of layers each of which contains a given number of groups of sheets. One or more layers which contain a first number of groups can be followed by one or more layers containing a different second number of groups so that a stack can contain layers which, in turn, contain different numbers of groups and hence different numbers of sheets. The number of sheets in each stack and in each layer is a whole multiple of the number of sheets in a group. If the average number of sheets in a series of successive stacks is to deviate from a whole multiple of the number of sheets in a group, successive stacks contain different numbers of sheets; each such number is a whole multiple of the number of sheets in a group but the total number of sheets in the series of stacks divided by the number of stacks which form the series can deviate from such whole multiple.

Abstract: A photohardenable element comprising a support bearing, in order, optionally a solvent-soluble nonphotosensitive layer, at least one photohardenable layer and a nonphotosensitive liquid removable layer, the photohardenable layer present immediately beneath the nonphotosensitive layer having therein substantially discrete, inert particles at least some of which cause protuberances in the nonphotosensitive layer. The particles have a size range of 0.1 to 10.0 .mu.m, not more than 50% by volume being below 3.5 .mu.m. A preferred element contains two photohardenable layers, the lower layer having an optical density greater than 3.0 over at least the 300 to 550 nm spectral region. The elements can be used for the preparation of proofs and printing plates.
Abstract: Analogs of arachidonic acid are provided having the structure ##STR1## wherein R is CH.sub.2 OH or CO.sub.2 H and m is 1 or 2. These compounds are useful as inhibitors of leukotriene and prostaglandin biosynthesis and as such are useful an antiallergy and antiinflammatory agents.
Abstract: A photosensitive conductive metal coating composition which is fireable in a weakly oxidizing atmosphere comprising an admixture ofa. Smooth finely divided particles of conductive metal, andb. Finely divided particles of cadmium-containing lead aluminosilicate glass, dispersed in a solution ofc. Acrylic polymer binderd. Volatile plasticizer,e. A photoinitiation system, andf. Photohardenable monomer.
Abstract: A composition for the preparation of thick film resistors comprising an admixture of finely divided particles of a conductive metal hexaboride, glass inorganic binder which is substantially irreducible by the metal hexaboride and a small amount of finely divided silica.
Abstract: Hydroxylapatite, a compound having the formulaM.sub.10 (PO.sub.4).sub.6 (OH).sub.2,wherein M is calcium, strontium, barium, lead, iron, sodium, potassium, zinc, cadmium, magnesium, aluminum or a rare earth metal, as a support medium for strontium-82 in a strontium-82/rubidium-82 parent-daughter radionuclide generator.
Abstract: Corrosion inhibitor compositions comprising a mixture of a nitroalkane containing 1-3 carbon atoms and a cocoamide of diethanolamine. Such compositions are useful in inhibiting corrosion on the interior surfaces of tin-plated aerosol cans containing water-based aerosol formulations.
Abstract: Tris(dialkylamino)sulfonium bifluoride salts are obtained by hydrolysis, methanolysis, or pyrolysis of corresponding tris(dialkylamino)sulfonium difluorotrimethylsilicates, reaction of dialkylaminotrialkylsilanes with sulfur tetrafluoride, or reaction of bis(dialkylamino)sulfur difluorides with dialkylamines. These bifluoride salts, which have the general formula (R.sup.1 R.sup.2 N)(R.sup.3 R.sup.4 N)(R.sup.5 R.sup.6 N)S.sup..sym. HF.sub.2.sup..crclbar., are useful polymerization catalysts.

Abstract: A shrink film having high optical clarity, good shrink properties, and good mechanical properties is obtained by stretching biaxially, without prior crosslinking, a film made of a copolymer of ethylene with at least one C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 .alpha.-olefin, which copolymer has two distinct crystallite melting points below 128.degree. C., the difference between these melting points being at least 10.degree. C., and stretching being carried at a temperature within the range defined by these melting points. The above copolymer may be blended with a homopolymer of an .alpha.-olefin or copolymer with another .alpha.-olefin or another ethylenically unsaturated comonomer, which may constitute up to about 95 weight % of the blend. The shrink film of this invention is particularly suitable for wrapping consumer goods which have to maintain good sales appeal.
Abstract: A device for attaching a tool in portable angled grinders, allowing the connection to be released without special accessories. The device consists essentially of a hollow driveshaft, of a spindle that slides inside it, and of a tool-securing point consisting of a mating flange and nut. The nut is loosened by activating the displacing mechanism, which displaces the spindle toward the tool-securing point, lifting the nut, which is connected to the spindle by means of a threaded pin, off of the tool. The nut can then be screwed off by hand.
Abstract: An equalizer with two parallel branches for precursor and postcursor correction, receiving periodically incoming binary pulse samples, generates for each sample two purged symbols f, b at the outputs of these branches along with two decided symbols f and b, all of which are transmitted to a logic network checking whether or not the two decided symbols are identical. In the event of a disparity, the network produces an estimated signal s, calculates the absolute differences d.sub.sf, d.sub.sb between signals s and f, b, supplements them with further signals d.sub.f, d.sub.b representing the contributions of postcursors and precursors from one or more preceding and following samples, and compares resulting discriminatory signals D.sub.f and D.sub.b to determine which of the two decided symbols should be emitted as an output signal of the equalizer.
