Abstract: A zero insertion force connector is provided with a housing and a latching member rectilinearly displacable with respect to the housing. A circuit board, receivable within the housing, is displaced with respect thereto from an initial to a final position in which the board abuts against a predetermined abutment surface on the housing. As the board is displaced, the final position of the board engages against a resilient contacting member which is successively urged in a first wiping direction across the conduction stripe on the board and thereafter, into a counter backwiping direction along the stripe.
Abstract: Azobenzenesulfonamides such as 2-[4-(dimethylamino)phenylazo]-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methylpyrimidin-2-yl)aminoc arbonyl]benzenesulfonamide are useful as preemergent and postemergent herbicides.
Abstract: Coating compositions containing large amounts of polymer-bound ultraviolet radiation stabilizers and cross linkers give highly ultraviolet absorbent properties.
Abstract: Acrylonitrile copolymers containing basic comonomers have improved color and color stability when the polymerization is carried out using a catalyst selected from the group consisting of hydrogen peroxide, alkyl and aryl hydroperoxides, acetyl and triacetone peroxides and alkali metal perborates and percarbonates along with an activator selected from the group consisting of 1-thioglycerol, 1-thiosorbitol and thioglycol and the polymerization mixture is quenched with a metal sequestering agent and a compound selected from the group consisting of SO.sub.2, sodium bisulfite and sodium metabisulfite.
Abstract: Explosives that are sensitized blends of inorganic nitrate, e.g., AN, particles, such as AN or ANFO prills, and an aqueous slurry comprising a thickened aqueous solution of an inorganic oxidizing salt, preferably AN, are rendered storage-stable by keeping the slurry's water content low enough, and its viscosity high enough, that the slurry is water-retentive. Water immobilization in the slurry, a requirement for storage stability, is achieved despite the slurry's flowable consistency at the time of blending. A blend containing about 25% slurry or less, is essentially in the form of a granular mass of free-flowing, high-density, slurry-bearing prills, and the slurry is sensitizable by the prills alone. As the slurry content exceeds about 25%, the blend takes on the characteristics of a thick slurry, requiring a supplemental sensitizer in the slurry per se.

Abstract: An apparatus and process for improving the method of joining abutting carpet seams with an underlying reinforced adhesive tape. The apparatus comprises a flexible elongated backing of non-stick heat reflective material and includes an adhesive tape guide and heating iron attachment point at one end. The apparatus and iron are pulled along a carpet joint as a unit, melting the adhesive portion. In another embodiment the heater is built in to the apparatus to reflect heat down onto the tape or up to the tape.

Abstract: A catheter support comprising an anchoring pad and a flexible strap, a portion of which is attached thereto, is disclosed. One side of the anchoring pad carries an adhesive compatible for use with human skin. One side of the strap carries a fastener material. With the pad in place, a catheter is laid against the pad, and the free end of the strap is folded across the catheter. The fastener material of the free end is pressed against the fastener material attached to the pad to hold the catheter in place. Alternatively, the side of the pad opposite the side with the adhesive carries fastener material, and the flexible strap is separate therefrom. A channel is present through the fastener material on either the pad, flexible strap or both to receive the catheter.
Abstract: Oriented and heat-set polyester film base is coated from nonflammable organic solvents with a polyester terpolymer resin to improve the anchorage of subsequently applied layers (e.g., photographic emulsions).
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for producing chlorine and an alkali metal hydroxide from brines containing soluble, iodine-containing salts by the electrolysis of aqueous alkali metal chloride in an electrolytic cell comprising an anode compartment and a cathode compartment separated by a fluorocarbon cation exchange membrane and in which the alkali metal chloride fed to the anode compartment contains not more than 1 ppm, preferably not more than 0.4 ppm of soluble iodine-containing salts.
Abstract: Process for preparation of dot-etched, photopolymerizable lithographic film which comprises (a) exposing imagewise a photopolymerizable element consisting essentially of a support and two caustic or water soluble layers, the upper layer being clear, unpigmented photopolymer and the lower layer being a polymeric binder having dispersed therein a chemically soluble pigment, e.g., colloidal silver or other metal; and optionally an overcoat layer; developing the exposed element with caustic solution and then water; and treating the developed image with a solubilizing agent, e.g., K.sub.2 Fe(CN).sub.6, FeCl.sub.3,Na.sub.2 S.sub.2 O.sub.3, KCNS, KOH, NH.sub.3, etc. A dot-etched lithographic film is prepared.
Abstract: Corrosion inhibitor compositions comprising a mixture of nitroalkane containing 1-3 carbon atoms and an amine neutralized phosphate ester selected from the group consisting of 2-ethylhexylamine salt of mixed mono- and di-isooctyl acid phosphate, tertiary C.sub.12 alkyl primary amine salt of mixed mono- and di-isooctyl acid phosphate, diethylamine salt of mixed mono- and di-butoxyethyl acid phosphate and 2-ethylhexylamine salt of mixed mono- and di-tridecyl acid phosphate. Such compositions are useful in inhibiting corrosion on the interior surfaces of tin-plated aerosol cans containing water-based aerosol formulations.
Abstract: A method for controlling weeds in Japonica rice paddy fields comprising applying an herbicidally effective amount of the compound methyl 2-[((4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl)aminosulfonyl]methyl benzoate in combination with a compound selected from 5-(4-chlorobenzyl)-N,N-diethylthiolcarbamate and S-(1-methyl-1-phenethyl)-piperidine-1-carbothioate.
Abstract: Agglomerates of spheroidal masses of malachite crystals are prepared so that they contain silicic acid. These agglomerates can be used to prepare a copper-acetylide complex, which in turn can be used as a catalyst for the preparation of 1,4-butynediol from acetylene and formaldehyde.
Abstract: A method of communicating is disclosed in which the receiving device acknowledges the receipt of a valid transmission and awaits the receipt of an abort message from the transmitting device before accepting the transmitted data. The transmitting device awaits the receipt of a valid acknowledgement and, if it fails to receive such an acknowledgement within a predetermined time-period, transmits an abort message to the receiving device. In multinodal, peer network communication systems, the acknowledgement and abort message may be transmitted during brief, dedicated time-periods following the transmission of data.
