Abstract: Apparatus for back stripping stacks of paper sheets or the like has a transporting unit which advances suitably staggered stacks along a horizontal path toward, to and beyond a back stripping station. The apparatus further comprises a carrier for an endless suction conveyor which draws requisite lengths of a web of backing strip material from a source of supply and past an adhesive applicator which coats the exposed side of the web with adhesive before the foremost back strip is severed therefrom and is temporarily held by the suction conveyor for application to the selected edge face of the stack at the back stripping station. This is achieved by moving the carrier from below upwardly into the path of an oncoming stack if the edge face about to receive the back strip is the leading edge face of such stack.

Abstract: Improvements to the various components of hydrostatic bearing levitation systems, systems wherein fluid pressure between a load and the rails of a track system supports and guides the load, are described. The rail has a plurality of lengthwise extending ports and nozzles communicating from the innermost ports through the curved upper wall to the interface area between the rail and the load. The nozzles are arranged in longitudinally aligned groups and in a pair of parallel rows with the groups of one row being longitudinally staggered with respect to the groups of the other row. The nozzles can be inexpensively produced by boring an oversize hole through the upper wall and fixing a cannula, such as a hypodermic needle, in the bore. The cannula's internal diameter is the desired nozzle diameter. The load support member has a compliant outer cover, a central core, and a filler material wound tightly on the core.

Abstract: A means for measuring either the intrinsic or inherent viscosity of a solute in solution with a solvent which is independent of flow rate and temperature fluctuations. The solution is passed through one capillary tube and the solvent through a second capillary, and the pressure drop across each is measured. Signals corresponding to each pressure drop measurement are fed to a logarithmic amplification means where they are processed to determine either the intrinsic or inherent viscosity of the solute independent of flow rate and temperature fluctuations. The viscosity measuring means may also be used together with size exclusion chromatrography to determine the molecular weight distribution of polymer materials. It may also be used to measure the relative viscosity of a sample liquid and a reference liquid, and to determine the viscosity of the sample liquid independent of flow rate and temperature fluctuations.

Abstract: A tire pressure indicating device includes a coil, and mounted in a tire forming with a capacitor to form a passive oscillatory circuit. The circuit is energized by pulses supplied via a coil positioned outside the tire and secured to the vehicle and the frequency in the passive oscillatory circuit is varied with tire pressure due to changes caused to the capacitance value of the capacitor. The frequency in the passive oscillatory circuit is sensed via a coil positioned outside the tire and secured to the vehicle.

Abstract: The system and equipment according to the invention carry out the (SSB) frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing of N base band sampled signals by purely digital processing. On the multiplexing path the apparatus comprises a time invariant single filter having a single input and only one output. At said unique filter input the N signals to be multiplexed are applied which are in form a single signal that is the time multiplexing of said N signals. The signal at the filter output is sent to a successive modulator which is a multiplier having a time varying multiplying coefficient. The real samples of the modulator output signal provide the SSB frequency multiplexed signal of the N incoming signal paths.
