  • Patent number: 4563782
Abstract: A hydropneumatic massage bath includes a bath tub having high side walls and a bottom and at least one pressurized-water line that terminates in a water jet nozzle. An air supply line opens into a chamber surrounding the water jet nozzle. Such chamber has an outlet orifice for a jet of water and pressurized air entering the interior of the bath tub structure is provided for pulsating the jet of water/air mixture that discharges into the interior of the bath tub. To achieve a pleasant and variable massaging effect, as well as to reduce the susceptibility of the system to contaminants and compressive stress, an interrupt mechanism is arranged in the air supply line upstream of the chamber to fully or partially close the air supply at a desired pulsation frequency, thereby controlling the flow of incoming air into the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4564740
Abstract: The proposed method relates to the ionization of plasma-generating gas in a ilot arc before being supplied to the electrode region, thus generating charges in this electrode region, the charges promoting dispersion of an arc spot. For this purpose, an electrode assembly is provided within the plasma-arc torch, which electrode assembly comprises a hollow tungsten electrode and a solid electrode of the same metal, the solid electrode being radially spaced from the hollow electrode. Both electrodes are put in an electric power circuit, whereby an arc is initiated between the electrodes when switching on the electric circuit, plasma being generated in the arc, which plasma serves to start the main arc and provides for dispersion of the arc spot over the surface of the hollow electrode. This decreases the current density in the arc spots and, hence, minimizes electrode erosion.

  • Patent number: 4562842
Abstract: Apparatus for continuously monitoring the loss of blood suffered by a patient in the course of a surgical operation. The apparatus provides a means for sucking the combination of blood and irrigating solution gathered about the incision, and for sequentially measuring the volumes and densities of small samplings of the solution-and-blood mixture being drawn through the conduit leading from the incision area to the suction device. The apparatus relies on the difference between the respective densities of the blood and of the irrigating solution in order to calculate the exact volume of blood contained in each sampling. The blood loss is continuously accumulated and displayed on a visual read-out, so that a corresponding amount of blood can be transfused to the patient in order to maintain his blood pressure throughout the operation.

  • Patent number: 4563637
Abstract: In order to measure the amplitude of a periodic signal of known frequency which may be heavily contaminated by noise and whose phase is not known at the point of measurement, e.g. at an output end of an optical fiber, two samples are periodically taken in every cycle at instants spaced apart by a quarter-cycle. The two samples are accumulated over N cycles and the signs of the resulting algebraic sums are compared at every N.sup.th cycle to determine whether the sampling phases should be advanced or retarded within a cycle by a predetermined increment .DELTA. in order to let the first and the second sample of a pair respectively approach the peak and the zero crossing of a half-cycle of the signal wave at which point, with the noise more or less balanced out, the second sum is substantially zero while the first sum represents N times the actual signal amplitude.

  • Patent number: 4561899
Abstract: Yellow crystal stable pigment of mono-azo type having an average particle size of 0.02 to 0.8 .mu.m, the pigment having on its surface a crystal growth inhibitor compound having substantially similar chemical structure as the pigment, being more soluble than the pigment in solvents used to disperse the pigment, the inhibitor compound not fitting within the crystal lattice of the pigment. The crystal growth of pigment dispersions due to Ostwald ripening can be prevented by adding a crystal growth inhibitor as noted above to the pigment dispersion. The pigments can be dispersed in an organic polymeric binder, e.g., cellulose acetate, to form yellow toners which are useful in toning photosensitive color proofing systems.

  • Patent number: 4560778
Abstract: Perfluoro(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole) forms oligomers on standing in the presence of an ether. The preferred ethers are aliphatic and cycloaliphatic, especially tetrahydrofuran. Free radical generators, especially peroxydicarbonates, may be added to the reaction medium. The oligomers have a degree of polymerization of about 2-8.
