Abstract: An apparatus for analyzing an audio signal with regard to rhythm information of the audio signal by using an autocorrelation function comprises a filter bank for separating the audio signal into at least two sub-band signals. The sub-band signals are examined with regard to periodicities by an autocorrelation function, to obtain rhythm raw-information for the at least two sub-band signals. To reduce or eliminate the ambiguities of the autocorrelation function for periodical signals, the rhythm raw-information is postprocessed to obtain post-processed rhythm raw-information for the sub-band signal. The rhythm information of the audio signal is established based on the postprocessed rhythm raw-information.

Abstract: A particle size distribution monitor, comprising: a transducer adapted to be a source of ultrasonic energy and positioned in contact with a suspension containing a percent by volume of particles in a liquid, the transducer transmitting ultrasonic energy through the suspension wherein the energy comprises a wideband pulse containing a range of frequency components; a transducer adapted to be a receiver of ultrasonic energy and positioned in contact with said suspension to receive said wideband range of ultrasonic energy which has passed through the suspension; a first means adapted to accept a signal from said receiver and make an instantaneous determination of the attenuation of the wideband ultrasonic energy in passing through the suspension.
Abstract: The present invention provides a single piece machined rotor comprising a shell having an upper lip and a lower lip, with a pocket formed between the upper lip and the lower lip for mounting magnets therein. The magnets are fixed in place within the inner sidewall of the rotor with an adhesive and spacers. The spacers are positioned between the magnets and are held in place on the shell of the rotor by fasteners. The spacers may be of any type of non-magnetic material that can absorb the heat of the engine. The rotor also preferably includes triggering protrusions and balancing cutouts machined into the shell of the rotor. The cutouts or grooves may be machined into the inner sidewall or the outer sidewall of the rotor. A plurality of timing teeth used for engine speed sensing maybe machined into the single piece rotor assembly. The present invention also contemplates a method of machining the entire rotor out of a single piece of material.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process a process for forming single-mode, organic waveguides employing organic polymeric materials. The process reduces dissolved and gaseous oxygen content to very low quantities, resulting in production of waveguides having superior properties and manufacturability. Also provided is a process for preventing loss of light due to cores having flared ends. A waveguide is produced by sequentially a layer of a liquid, photosensitive buffer and clad composition to a surface of a substrate; deoxygenating under vacuum; overall exposing under an inert gas actinic radiation to partially polymerize the compositions below a full curing.

Abstract: A bistable electro-optic display has a plurality of pixels, each of which is capable of displaying at least three gray levels. The display is driven by a method comprising: storing a look-up table containing data representing the impulses necessary to convert an initial gray level to a final gray level; storing data representing at least an initial state of each pixel of the display; receiving an input signal representing a desired final state of at least one pixel of the display; and generating an output signal representing the impulse necessary to convert the initial state of said one pixel to the desired final state thereof, as determined from said look-up table. The invention also provides a method for reducing the remnant voltage of an electro-optic display.

Abstract: A method for producing encapsulated chips includes preparing a wafer with contacts projecting from a surface of the wafer. The wafer is disposed on a dicing substrate and diced into a plurality of spaced chips on the dicing substrate. The contacts are covered with a protection arrangement, then injection molding being conducted to introduce encapsulation material into the contacts and the trenches. Then the protection arrangement is removed so that the contacts are exposed.

Abstract: In a method for characterizing a surface comprising a localized unevenness, a contour line of the surface is initially created as a function of a location variable. Subsequently, the localized unevenness is detected in the contour line and eliminated from the contour line, so that an incomplete contour line results as a function of the location variable, which characterizes the surface without the localized unevenness. The incomplete contour line may be used to either be able to evaluate the surface without any localized points of unevenness, for example to determine the side wobble or height wobble of a tire, if the surface is a side flank and/or a running tread of a vehicle tire, or to classify the localized points of unevenness without any influence of the surface.
