  • Patent number: 4424995
Abstract: A security seal of the type having a housing with an opening to receive a flat strap type of shackle, in which the shackle has an aperture near the end, and said housing has internal means for engaging the shackle to prevent removal after the shackle is properly inserted. The internal means comprises deformable legs which are so deformed by the insertion of the strap end that a free end of one locking leg is caused to move through the aperture of the inserted strap to lock it against removal. In one embodiment of the invention the locking leg has hook means on the free end engaging a stationary portion of the internal structure after it has passed through the strap opening. In another embodiment of the invention two sets of deformable legs are provided so that both ends of a shackle may be engaged in the housing, thereby allowing the user of the seal to provide his own shackles with his own numbering system.

  • Patent number: 4425004
Abstract: Prior art truck hub has central boss with central axis, a plurality of spokes extending from the boss, and webs extending between the spokes. End faces of spokes commonly crack and by using method of repair the hub can be salvaged by removing from outer end of each spoke, a generally U-sectioned portion of end face and adjacent portions of spoke to form a pair of spaced shoulders on side portions of spoke. An annular rim or band is fitted on shoulders so that cylindrical inner face of band is adjacent generally axial edges of shoulders, and annular end face of band is adjacent radial edges of shoulders and partially annular edges of outer faces of spokes. Band is welded to ends of spokes to provide additional support for tire bearing rim.

  • Patent number: 4424747
Abstract: A percussion-actuated instantaneous or delay detonator transmits a detonation from a first length of low-energy detonating cord (LEDC) transversely positioned adjacent the detonator's percussion-responsive end to a U-shaped segment of a second length of LEDC held with its apex against the base-charge end of the detonator and the arms of the U extending away from the detonator. A directional connector for connecting one or more U-shaped segments of detonating cord adjacent each end of the detonator has identifiable donor- and receiver-cord-housing sections, e.g., the receiver-cord-housing section has the shape of the head, and the donor-cord-housing section the shape of the butt, of an arrow. A connector adapted to hold receiver LEDC and high-energy detonating cord (HEDC) segments is internally configured to receive nested U-shaped segments of LEDC and HEDC only when the LEDC is adjacent the base-charge end of the detonator.

  • Patent number: 4423699
Abstract: A centrifuge rotor is described which facilitates the preparation of cell dispersions on microscope slides. The rotor is bowl-like in configuration and defines an annular channel having plural circumferentially disposed septa. The septa provide plural separate regions each adapted to receive removable chambers. The outer wall in each region is flat to accommodate a microscope slide. Each chamber has an outlet orifice adapted to contact the microscope slide. A sample containing blood cells, for example, may be placed in each chamber and the cells centrifugally sedimented against the slide associated with the respective chambers. A gasket at the interface between each slide and its chamber prevents leakage of the sample and a conduit in each chamber permits removal of the supernatant fluid following cell sedimentation.

  • Patent number: 4424098
Abstract: An energy efficient falling film evaporator having a plurality of substantially vertical and equidistant heat exchange elements made of a synthetic polymeric material. Each evaporating surface is in contact with a liquid spreading means, and each heat exchange element is heated by steam having a condensation temperature slightly higher than the boiling point of the aqueous solution from which water is being evaporated. Steam formed by evaporation of water either is recompressed and reintroduced as heating steam in a single-stage process or is used as heating steam for another stage, operating at a lower temperature and pressure, in a multistage process. Heating steam condenses to fresh water, which is recovered. This process is operated at a lower temperature and pressure, in a multistage apparatus. Heating steam condenses to fresh water, which is recovered.
