  • Patent number: 4419958
Abstract: A nozzle used in the coating of optical fibers with a protective resin layer comprises an aluminum body split into two symmetrical halves with cavities which upon assembly form a frustoconical funnel terminating at its narrower lower end in a coaxially converging outlet port. The cavities are machined in solid aluminum blocks whereupon each block is anodized in sulfuric acid to form thereon an abrasion-resistant oxide layer with few, small pores which may be sealed by an aftertreatment in hot de-ionized water.

  • Patent number: 4420307
Abstract: A process is described for dyeing a disperse dyeable material such as a textile or film, comprising the steps of: forming a latent magnetic image in a magnetic imaging member comprising a ferromagnetic material on an electrically conductive support; developing the magnetic image by applying thereto a ferromagnetic toner comprising a ferromagnetic component, a dye compnent containing a dye which is substantially sublimable at from 160.degree. to 215.degree. C., and a resin, which substantially encapsulates the ferromagnetic component and the dye component; transferring the developed image to a paper sheet, applying a thermally stable sublimable-dye-permeable polymeric material to the side of the paper sheet bearing the toner image material into contact with a textile material to be dyed; and heating the textile material and paper sheet to thereby transfer the dye image from the paper sheet through the polymeric material to form a dye image in the textile material.

  • Patent number: 4420358
Abstract: In the process for the production of a glued joint for wood, the surfaces to be glued are held tightly together. At least one injection needle is driven into the wood up to a depth at which the outlet of the needle point comes into contact with the surface. The fluid adhesive is then driven under pressure through the injection needle and evenly distributed between the surfaces. The process is particularly suited for the production of window blind frames made of wood, in which the wood edges to be glued are joined by means of pins and slots. The process makes possible the production of joints of great strength, with very low tolerances between the pins and slots.

  • Patent number: 4419174
Abstract: Ostomy pouches are manufactured by partially contour welding two pouch walls one of which has a stoma aperture over an area extending from the top edge of the pouch past the region of the weld seam around the aperture. A separator member is inserted into the partially welded pouch and an adhesive label is then welded or bonded to the pouch wall around the aperture. • Patent number: 4419102
Abstract: A process is provided wherein film (e.g. polyester) which has been dyed by at least one disperse dye, is contacted with textile material in the presence of sufficient heat to cause the dye to sublime or vaporize and transfer some of the dye from the film to the textile material, thereby effecting level dyeing of the textile material. Both the film and textile material have affinity for the dye, and softening points which are higher, and glass transition temperatures which are lower, than the temperature needed to effect sublimation or vaporization and transfer of the dye. Also a process is provided wherein film is continuously dyed with at least one disperse dye and thereafter continuously contacted with a textile material at elevated temperature so as to sublime or vaporize the dye and transfer dye from the film to the textile material.

  • Patent number: 4418547
Abstract: A thermally powered heat transfer system consisting of two closed heat transfer loops which share a compressor which is alternately powered by the refrigerants of the two loops. This system is powered by two heat sources having different temperatures of which the lower temperature heat source may be the heat within a structure to be cooled. An evaporator of the first loop located within the structure to be cooled is charged with a low boiling point refrigerant while an evaporator of the second loop is heated by a higher temperature heat source and is charged with a higher boiling point refrigerant. The heat sinks of the loops are at temperatures between those of the two heat sources. Controls are activated at the completion of each compressor stroke, or cycle, to alternately open and close valves which regulate vapor and liquid flows to cause the compressor to act with compressive force upon one or the other refrigerant vapor during each cycle of operation of the system to effect useful heat transfer.

  • Patent number: RE31459
Abstract: Solid state folded leaf spring force transducers are fabricated by batch photolithographic and etching techniques from a monocrystalline material, such as silicon. The folded leaf spring structure includes elongated gaps separating adjacent leaf spring leg portions, such elongated gaps being oriented parallel to a crystallographic axis of the monocrystalline material. In a preferred embodiment the monocrystalline material is of diamond cubic type and the leaf spring gaps extend in mutually orthogonal directions parallel to the <011> and <011> crystallographic axes, respectively. In a preferred method of fabricating the spring structure, the structure is etched from a monocrystalline wafer by means of an anisotropic etchant so as to more precisely define angles and dimensions of the resultant spring structure.
