Abstract: An electric current regulating junction that can be electrically activated to a low resistance state in which it is capable of passing a relatively low reading current. The junction is capable of being activated electrically so as to be switched between low resistance and relatively high resistance states and vice versa. To switch from the low resistance to the high resistance state, one may apply relatively low currents (at least 10 times the magnitude of the reading current) in the form of a current-limited pulse, the pulse being regulated so that it will decay rapidly at the end. The junction comprises a normally insulative, electrically activatable composition having an electrical resistance greater than 10.sup.8 ohms through a layer 0.1-2,540 microns thick.

Abstract: A process of forming an image of toner on a latent magnetic image in a magnetic member followed by direct transfer to and coalescence on a surface to form a resist is disclosed. The surface portion not protected by the transferred resist toner image is then permanently modified by etching or plating. Chemically milled shapes are prepared as well as printed circuits and printing plates. The printed circuits may be formed by (1) etching away areas of a metal surface not protected by the resist, (2) electroless plating on areas not protected by the resist or (3) electroplating areas of a metal surface not protected by the resist, removing the resist, and in the case of (2) and (3), etching away the metal previously covered by the resist. An especially useful toner which forms a resist composition comprises a binder of thermoplastic resin and plasticizer and magnetic material present in the binder, compounded to have a tack transfer temperature of no greater than 110.degree. C.
Abstract: A high-solids enamel coating on a substrate can give metallic glamor comparable to that imparted by conventional lacquer coatings containing metallic-flakes when the amount of metallic flake pigment in the enamel is increased over conventional amounts with a proportional increase in the amount of chromatic pigments.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a piston for internal combustion engines, compressors and the like, comprising a head portion articulately connected to a separate skirt portion, wherein the skirt portion comprises a steel tubular part obtained by cutting, bending and closing of a piece of steel strip, the outer surface of said tubular part being covered by a layer of antifriction material bonded to said outer surface prior to the cutting, bending and closing of the steel strip.
Abstract: An analog signal sent from one telephone subscriber to another is differentiated at a transmitting terminal and the resulting derivative is distorted by mixing with a random or pseudorandom sequence of bipolar binary pulses before being conveyed, e.g. by frequency modulation, to a receiving terminal where it is mixed with a like pulse sequence to re-establish the undistorted derivative signal with substantial suppression of interferences from other users of the same signal link. The re-established signal is integrated over intervals equal to a basic pulse period of the binary sequence and each signal sample thus obtained is additively combined with the sample from the immediately preceding period to restore the original analog signal. The signal link utilized may be an emergency channel made available, e.g. for communication with a mobile station, when regular channels are busy.

Abstract: Apparatus for supporting the core of a reel of convoluted paper in a winding machine has two trunnions which extend into the end portions of the core from opposite ends of the reel and are surrounded by ring-shaped stops which are normally closely adjacent to the respective end faces of the reel therebetween. The trunnions and the respective stops are movable axially toward and away from the core and each trunnion is surrounded by a ring-shaped sensor which is biased against the respective end face of the reel so that the distance between the sensor and the corresponding stop denotes the width of the gap between the respective end face of the reel and the corresponding stop.
