  • Patent number: 4357235
Abstract: A long, thin annular belt-like channel can be used in sedimentation field flow fractionation. A rotating seal is required to couple fluids to the channel inlet and from the channel outlet. A flexible shaft is used to drive the rotating seal and thereby decouple rotor vibrations, which cause can leakage, from the rotating seal.

  • Patent number: 4356083
Abstract: The mass center of a field flow fractionation channel is adjusted to coincide with the geometric center of the channel. Under these conditions, above critical rotor speeds, the mass center will coincide with the geometric center of the channel and both will coincide with the spin axis of the rotor. This ensures that all portions of the field flow fractionation channel are subjected to about the same centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 4356547
Abstract: An apparatus for handling incoming signals from sensors monitoring the state of certain points of a telephone circuit as well as outgoing signals for drivers associated with other circuit points includes a preprocessor PE inserted between the assembly DR of sensors and drivers, on the one hand, and a processor EL, on the other hand. The preprocessor and the processor have access, through a bus 5, to a common memory ME having areas allocated to the scanning of the circuit points, to time-counting operations and to the storage of messages from the preprocessor. A microprogram memory in the preprocessor, when addressed by a sequencer CM started automatically, manually or in response to an instruction from the processor, initiates a temporary seizure of the bus--if the latter is available--whereupon an initial address is delivered from the common memory ME to a working memory ML in the preprocessor to start the scanning of successive pairs of circuit points.

  • Patent number: 4355477
Abstract: A working machine which is intended for demolishing and excavating work comprises a chassis, an upper part carried by said chassis and arranged for rotational movement relative thereto about a vertical axis, and an arm arrangement carried by the upper part and including a jib structure which is connected at one end thereof to the upper part and the other end of which carries, via an intermediate arm, a fitting for a tool, such as an excavator bucket, a chiseling device or like tool. The jib structure and the intermediate arm are connected to the upper part and to each other respectively via pivots and can be pivoted in a vertical plane by means of first and second pressure piston-cylinder devices active between the upper part and the jib structure and between the jib structure and the intermediate arm respectively. The jib structure is divided into a first, short jib section which is pivotally connected to the upper part, and a second, longer jib section which is pivotally connected to the first jib section.

  • Patent number: 4356476
Abstract: A plurality of fire, smoke, security or other detectors of the type which respond to the existence of a predetermined condition are each connected to an input module which monitors the state of the detectors. The input module is connected to an alarm module and when a predetermined number of detectors simultaneously detect the existence of fire, smoke or a breach in security or the like, the alarm module provides a suitable pre-selected command to sound an alarm, commence an interlock and/or activate a predetermined management decision to activate other devices for fire or security protection, such as the automatic discharge of an extinguishing agent, etc. The alarm module may provide different commands depending upon the number of detectors which are simultaneously triggered. In addition, certain preselected detectors may cause the alarm module to provide a command signal regardless of the number of detectors which are simultaneously triggered.

  • Patent number: 4355605
Abstract: A motor brake control system for use on a motor having a motor brake retarder and a throttle fuel control is designed to respond to manual selection for sequentially retarding the selected cylinders in the motor. A transducer for sensing the speed of the motor is provided for generating a series of output pulses which access a high RPM detector and a low RPM detector. In the event that the motor exceeds a predetermined high RPM value, the brake control system activates all of the retarders to fully brake the motor. In the event that the brake retarders are on, either fully or partially, and the motor drops below a predetermined low RPM value, the brake retarders are released. Provision is made to prevent retardation of the motor as long as the throttle of the motor is being activated and retardation is further prevented after deactivation of the throttle until the fuel in the fuel delivery system has been consumed.
