Abstract: A processing circuit (50) in a communication system performs multi-channel adaptive array processing using a summed reference technique. A plurality of adaptive modules (56 and 58) modify the magnitude and phase of antenna element signals from a plurality of antenna elements. The outputs of the adaptive modules are combined by a combiner (60) to produce a summation signal. A modem (64) processes and divides the summation signal into a plurality of reference channel signals on channels 1 through K. A summer (70) adds the reference channel signals together to produce a composite reference signal that is subtracted by a subtractor (74) from the summation signal to produce an error signal. The error signal is applied to the adaptive modules (56 and 58) which respond to nullify interfering and noise signals and to enhance the signal-to-interference ratio for the summation signal.
Abstract: An Al-Mg alloy is mixed with a Ni-Sb alloy or Al, in powder form, to form a thick-film metallizing paste useful for making low resistance electrically conductive contacts to a silicon solar cell coated with Si.sub.3 N.sub.4.
Abstract: A central processor controlling a set of peripheral units through an associated logic network is programmed to activate from time to time, through a direct connection by-passing the logic network, a checking unit including a read-only memory storing a variety of microprograms in areas individually addressable by the processor. Upon the reception of a memory address, a timing circuit is set to determine the frequency of stepping pulses advancing a counter which calls forth successive phases of the selected mircroprogram. Code words read out during these phases to the logic network are fed back by the latter to the processor for comparison with corresponding contents of its own program memory; in the event of a disparity, or when failure of the processor to emit a resetting signal lets the counter advance to the limit of its capacity, an alarm indicator is tripped.

Abstract: A variable inductance transducer for use in engineering metrology comprises a plunger with a tip and carried in a housing in linear bearings with a core mounted on the plunger within the overall axial length of the bearings, so as to produce an axially compact structure. The bearings can be two separate ball bushings with the core disposed between them.
Abstract: Polyesters of fiber-forming molecular weight consisting esssentially of methyl or chloro-1,4-dioxyphenylene units, terephthaloyl units and small amounts of 6-oxy-2-naphthoyl and units from other difunctional aromatic polyester-forming reactants.
Abstract: In order to provide an end face of an optical fiber with a spherical curvature of predetermined radius, designed to optimize the transfer of luminous intensity from an adjoining light source such as a light-emitting diode, a flat fiber is heated to a temperature near its melting point while its profile is optically enlarged. When that profile is found to have reached a predetermined shape criterion, as determined by visual observation or by electronic scanning, heating is terminated.

Abstract: A radio receiver is disclosed in which a received signal is amplified, filtered, and then sampled at a rate determined by a clock signal produced by a selectable-rate, digital oscillator. In sampling the received signal, a family of harmonics are generated which are distributed in a pattern determined by the sampling rate. One harmonic is selected as an intermediate frequency signal and, like the received signal, it is amplified, filtered, and sampled. The second sampling process is driven by a second clock signal produced by a variable-rate, digital oscillator. This produces a second family of harmonics which are derived from the intermediate frequency signal. The second clock signal rate is selected to produce one harmonic which has a carrier component centered on zero frequency. This harmonic, which is the desired baseband signal, is separated from the other harmonics by means of a low-pass filter.
Abstract: High NSI dry vegetable protein isolates may be effectively utilized to replace egg albumin and/or milk caseinates in food recipes. The isolates are characterized as having an NSI of at least 90, substantially free from vegetable protein hydrolyzates, capable of forming insoluble heat-set gels and having aqueous Brookfield viscosities substantially lower than those which are obtained from conventional undigested vegetable protein hydrolyzates. The relatively neutral pH extraction conditions in the presence of sulfurous ions, coupled with its recovery without chemically or enzymatically hydrolyzing the protein constituents affords an effective method for manufacturing these unique isolate products. The isolates may be used to directly replace either casein or egg albumin in a wide variety of food recipes.
Abstract: Heat seal compositions and articles including the compositions are disclosed. The compositions exhibit a broad temperature range for making heat seals of variable strengths and are useful as the sole heat seal composition in making flexible packages requiring both permanent and peelable seals.
Abstract: A thermosetting acrylic powder coating composition contains an acrylic copolymer of a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least one epoxy group and at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer which is free of epoxy groups, a carboxy-terminated primary crosslinking agent, a supplementary crosslinking agent having at least one functional group which can react with either hydroxyl groups or carboxylic acid groups, and at least one ultraviolet light stabilizer or ultraviolet light screener capable of preventing degradation of the coating by ultraviolet light. An acrylic copolymer of methyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, and glycidyl methacrylate is favored. Preferably, the composition contains a combination of ultraviolet light stabilizer and ultraviolet light screener, is nonpigmented, and provides a clear, glossy, and durable film useful as the clear coat of a clear coat/color coat automobile finish.
Abstract: Compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.f is perfluoroalkyl containing 4-20 carbons;R.sup.1 is the hydrocarbon residue of either citric, phthalic (o, m or p isomer), benzoic, succinic, chlorendic, trimellitic or pyromellitic acid; andn is a number from 1 to 4, preferably 2 to 4.Process of using compounds (I) to treat (a) textile materials so as to give them dry soil resistance and oil and water repellency, and (b) paper so as to make it repel water and oil.
Abstract: Preparing multilayer ceramic (MLC) modules by injection molding a mixture of a fine particulate such as alumina and a binder into a mold containing predesigned ridges and pins. The product is a green body layer of ceramic containing grooves and vias that is thereafter metallized with a conductive paste and laminated to other like layers of ceramic. Solvent extraction of the binder and sintering of the MLC forms the module.
Abstract: An alarm switch circuit includes an opto-isolator that is used as a high speed switch to control the pulse generation rate of an oscillator circuit which in turn maintains a set of normally open contacts of an interlock relay in the closed condition. The fail-safe design features are not negated should the following conditions occur: (1) a loss of power, (2) one or more independent failures of circuit elements, (3) open or short circuit failures of the set point (SP) or process variable (PV) voltages or their polarity reversals and (4) the background noise masks the PV signal.
