Abstract: The coagulation of blood is measured by introducing the blood into an annular gap in a beaker formed between the inner surface of the beaker and a cylindrical member depending into the beaker. The beaker is mounted on the upper end of a rod-like support. A coil arrangement about the lower part of the rod-like support impresses a circular orbiting motion on the support and beaker. Another core associated with the rod-like support measures changes in amplitude of the support produced by the development of fibrin in the blood sample in the annular gap.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for photometrically analyzing a stream under test containing both chlorine and chlorine dioxide is characterized by heating a portion of the stream to decompose any chlorine dioxide therein into elemental chlorine. This heated portion of the stream is photometrically analyzed to determine the concentration of chlorine produced by the decomposition of chlorine dioxide, taking into account the concomitant dilution produced thereby.

Abstract: An improved photosensitive litho element comprises, in order, a support, a non-photosensitive solvent-soluble contiguous layer having an optical density of at least 3.0 in the visible region of the spectrum and a maximum thickness of 0.015 mm, and a solvent-processable photosensitive layer. Dot-etchable contact litho negatives and positives are provided.
Abstract: A solution polymerization process for the preparation of homopolymers of ethylene and copolymers of ethylene and higher .alpha.-olefins and a coordination catalyst for such a process are disclosed. In the process monomer is polymerized in the presence of the coordination catalyst which consists of a particular admixture of (a) a solution of an organoaluminum compound and an organomagnesium compound, with (b) a solution of a titanium compound and a vanadium compound. The catalyst exhibits relatively high activity in the polymerization of the monomers.
Abstract: A coating composition consisting essentially of certain heat-stable polymers, colorants, antioxidant, and liquid carrier useful for coating an article to produce a finish which is capable of maintaining its hue and can have a decorative pattern produced within it. The antioxidant is phosphoric acid which has been neutralized with an excess of ammonia or an organic base, preferably a volatile amine, to give a pH in the coating composition of at least about 8.5.
Abstract: A method is provided for preparing intermediates for use in 10,10-difluoro prostacyclin syntheses which method includes the steps of aceylating ketopinic acid or its acid halide to form the corresponding ketopinoyl diene ester intermediate, subjecting the diene ester to a Diels-Alder reaction by reacting same with cyclopentendione, subjecting the resulting chiral ester intermediate to a fluorination and reduction to form the corresponding chiral ester diol intermediate, subjecting the diol to solvolysis to form the chiral triol intermediate, hydroxylating the chiral triol to form a pentol intermediate, subjecting the pentol to a ring cleavage to form the difluoro dihydroxy prostacyclin intermediate ##STR1## and subjecting same to a Wittig reaction to form the difluoro dihydroxy prostacyclin intermediate ##STR2## All of the above-mentioned intermediates are novel compounds and thus are also provided.

Abstract: A railway car truck bolster is formed of channel cross section tension and compression members and a reinforced web joined together by welding to form a reinforced I-beam as the primary structural unit for the bolster. The welds joining the main structural elements are disposed to be stressed in shear rather than tension or compression for optimum fatigue performance.
