Abstract: Processes for preparing polymeric thickeners are provided which give, in preferred compositions, both good flow and leveling properties as well as sag resistance to coating compositions such as aqueous paints. The thickeners are prepared by conducting the polymerization in glycol such as ethylene glycol or propylene glycol with or without a little added water. The monomers polymerized consist essentially of (a) about 1-99% by weight of at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid of 3 to 6 carbon atoms, and (b) about 99-1% by weight of at least one ester of the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.2 are each hydrogen or methyl,x is a positive integer of 5 to 80,y is an integer of 0 to 20, andR.sub.1 is alkyl of 1 to 20 carbon atoms or alkyl phenyl where the alkyl group is from 1 to 20 carbon atoms.

Abstract: A photohardenable element useful, for example, in color proofing and the like, additionally containing a protective top-coat comprised of tacky material, e.g. a layer containing unexposed photohardenable monomer and plasticizer, said top-coat being dusted with a powdered material capable of rendering the layer non-tacky and suitable for further handling. The powdered material additionally gives the surface of the element a matte finish.

Abstract: Photopolymerizable elements are described comprising a sheet support, a photopolymerizable layer having a thickness of, at most, 0.0006 inch (0.015 mm.) and an optical density of at least 3.0 in the actinic region. Resist images made from these elements may be etched by a process of chemically undercutting the image areas and then spraying or rubbing them. The elements are useful as contact speed lithographic films and for other graphic arts applications.
Abstract: A seal of the type having a hollow housing with internal resilient fingers for receiving a shouldered stud of a shackle into one end of the housing into locking engagement with the fingers, in which the opposite end is closed by a plug having resilient legs snapped into engagement with an internal recess in said opposite end. In one embodiment of the invention, the seal is formed of a single piece of molded plastic, with the plug being molded alongside the housing and being attached thereto by a flexible hinge or web.In another embodiment of the invention, the end of the shackle beyond the shoulder projects into a cavity between the resilient legs to lock said legs into the internal recess.
Abstract: A spinneret for the production of hollow filaments that includes a cylindrical shaped insert swaged into each passage of the spinneret to effect a seal between the insert and spinneret. The insert is constructed to contain the polymer entirely within the insert to prevent leakage of polymer into the core gas supply passages of the spinneret.
Abstract: A conferencing circuit for use in a digitized speech, time division multiplex (TDM) loop communication system. Digitized speech samples from subscriber stations are extracted from the TDM loop and summed over a frame interval. The sum is stored and the input from each subscriber station is subtracted from the sum and the remainder is placed on the TDM loop for return to the respective subscriber station. A conference control signal is generated which is synchronous with the TDM loop and the subscriber stations' time slot and has a given state during each time slot assigned to a subscriber station that participates in the conference. The conference control signal controls the circuitry which sums the digitized speech samples generated by the conference subscriber stations.
Abstract: A roof gutter of channel form, with a bottom and upright front and rear flanges, is supported by a series of brackets secured to a roof structure, each bracket having a top arm which is engaged with the front flange of the gutter to prevent its being raised or lowered, the rear bottom part of the gutter being snapped into engagement with the bracket to secure the gutter in place.
Abstract: This invention relates to aliphatic phosphorous containing compounds which are useful as herbicides. Additionally, they demonstrate tolerance towards desired, crops, e.g. wheat and rice.
Abstract: A method is provided for isolating an elastomer from a mixture of the elastomer and water containing up to about 90% by weight water by feeding the mixture into a thermally controlled, vertical separator containing a rotating screw, simultaneously feeding excess water under pressure into the separator, withdrawing concentrated elastomer containing less than about 10% by weight total volatiles (including water) from the metering section of the separator and withdrawing feed water and excess water from a water discharge port located near the upper end of the separator. In addition, apparatus for isolating elastomers from mixtures of elastomers and water is provided.

Abstract: A play set comprising a three-dimensional doll figure and a variety of flexible, resilient clip-on pieces representing clothing for the doll to wear, vehicles and animals for the doll to ride in and/or on, etc. The doll has an original appearance, i.e. original clothes, pose, etc. The clip-on pieces may cover over portions of the original appearance and replace them in addition to adding to them. For example, original arm positions and a shirt may be replaced by different arm positions and a coat. Similarly, legs of a standing figure may be replaced by a motorcycle and legs positioned astride the motorcycle. In preferred form, the figure is bias-relief, having a flat rear surface defining a peripheral shoulder and the clip-on pieces each conform generally to the front of the bias-relief figure and have retaining lips that engage the peripheral shoulder.
