  • Patent number: 4215448
Abstract: A pad-type painting applicator of the type having a handle and a replaceable applicating pad includes a simplified design for use in either of two paint applying modes and an improved mechanism for removably mounting applicating pads. A relatively short handle gripping portion is secured to an enlarged base, which mounts the replaceable applicating pad, for use when painting areas close within reach of the painter and where the painter can easily move the tool in strokes generally parallel to the surface on which the paint is being applied. A threaded aperture or short cylindrical portion is provided in the base at an angle with respect to the handle gripping portion for use in conjunction with an elongated extension pole that may be secured to the tool to enable normally inaccessible areas or surfaces to be reached. A flexible tab on the base secures a slideably mounted applicating pad generally in the center thereof.

  • Patent number: 4216497
Abstract: A system for monitoring the operation of a multichannel receiver includes a channel monitor coupled to the sync separator of the receiver for collecting and transmitting channel information to a central collector station. The collector station selectively responds to one of a plurality of channel monitors to record, in sequential order, channel information. Each of the channel monitors is similar and includes a synchronizing pulse generator triggered by the vertical synchronizing pulse from a receiver to generate a match recognize pulse when a frequency coupled to the receiver from the monitor and the channel frequency have a preestablished relationship. To generate the match recognize pulse a counter provides signals to a tuning matrix that controls a frequency synthesizer or plurality of oscillators for generating the frequency coupled to the receiver for the match evaluation. Also, the counter activates a data encoder that provides channel information to the collector station.

  • Patent number: 4216282
Abstract: A process for reproducing graphic information wherein a magnetic image is formed in a premagnetized layer of acicular chromium dioxide by heating the chromium dioxide selectively to above its Curie point. Ferromagnetic toner particles are then applied uniformly to the chromium dioxide layer, so as to adhere only in the magnetized areas. The toner particles are electrostatically transferred to a substrate and fused into position. Alternating current coronas or other static neutralizing devices are used to neutralize unwanted charges on toner particles which would otherwise cause fuzzy images and unwanted background markings on the final copies.

  • Patent number: 4215284
Abstract: A pole-shoe magnet group assembly for a magnetomotive device such as a magneto for the ignition system of an internal combustion engine. The group carried by the rotor includes a permanent magnet and a pair of pole-shoes extending generally circumferentially from the magnet in opposite directions. A coil/core group for electromagnetic cooperation with the pole-shoe magnet group is disposed on the stator. The inner surface of each pole-shoe is defined by a circular arc having a center eccentric to the center of rotation of the rotor. The inner surfaces of the pole-shoes and the core of the trigger coil define an air gap or spacing which varies during rotation of each shoe relative to the core. The signal induced in the trigger coil by this construction inhibits unwanted firing of a solid state switching component and in a breakerless ignition in response to reverse rotation of the magnet pole-shoe group.

  • Patent number: 4215239
Abstract: Acquisition of a carrier frequency lock and a symbol timing lock is efficiently achieved during the preamble of a data signal in a time division multiple access communication system by first operating the system in an acquisition mode and subsequently switching to a data recovery mode. In the acquisition mode, an input signal is passed through a transversal correlator and frequency multiplied by a factor of two. The multiplied signal is used to control a local oscillator for demodulating the carrier signal. Also in the acquisition mode, the output of the transversal correlator is envelope detected and applied to a symbol timing loop that produces a symbol timing signal. Upon the detection of a symbol timing lock, a lock detector switches the system to the data recovery mode. In the data recovery mode, the input signal is frequency multiplied by 4 and used to control the local oscillator for demodulating the input signal.

  • Patent number: 4214640
Abstract: A machine for the automatic preparation of proportions of different caoutuc blocks for filler mixtures in rubber manufacture has conveyor lines for the different kinds of caoutchouc block, each including a measuring conveyor and a block-weighing conveyor. A movable band saw cuts off portions of the blocks projecting from the measuring conveyors while the latter are stationary, and a storage unit disposed downstream of the conveyor lines stores excess portions of blocks severed in one measuring to deliver them to a collector conveyor during a successive cycle, under control of a processor which memorises the required weights of the different kinds of caoutchouc and controls the conveyors, the cutting unit and the storage unit in dependence upon the stored data and data sent to it by the block weighing conveyors to give the required proportions.

  • Patent number: 4215078
Abstract: An improved process for the production of chloroprene, which is the critical monomer constituent of neoprene rubbers, and of 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3, which often is copolymerized with chloroprene to provide better low temperature properties of the resulting elastomer, involves dehydrochlorination of a chlorinated hydrocarbon such as 3,4-dichlorobutene-1, 2,3,4-trichlorobutene-1, or 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobutane, with an aqueous mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride having the composition of chlor/alkali cell liquor; separation of the organic phase from which the desired product, chloroprene or 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3, is recovered by distillation; and recirculation of the aqueous (brine) phase to the electrolysis apparatus, from which the sodium hydroxide-sodium chloride liquor is returned to the dehydrochlorination step.

  • Patent number: 4215095
Abstract: Molecular chlorine level in flue gases from incineration of chlorinated organic materials is reduced by injecting into the incinerator's quench zone an amount of a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydrocarbon which depends on the amount of air fed into the combustion zone, the amount of air being such that there is a 1-40 % excess of oxygen. When the wall temperature of the combustion zone is about 800.degree.-1500.degree. C., the temperature at which the hydrocarbon is added to the quench zone is about 450.degree.-1000.degree. C. Hydrogen chloride, which is formed from molecular chlorine and hydrocarbon, is more readily water-scrubbed than chlorine, so that less polluting flue gases are obtained.
