Abstract: In the demolding of confectionery products (especially high-amylose candy recipes) steam pressure, which is applied between the surface of the mold and molded confectionery product, can be effectively employed to expel the product from a fixed or permanent mold. The steam pressure effectively functions as a self-lubricating and self-dissipating agent which cleanly separates the molded confection from the mold. Temporary chemical release or permanent release coating agents are not needed.
Abstract: An antistatic composition for photographic films which can withstand wet processing is formed by reacting (1) a hydrophobic polymer containing carboxyl groups, (2) a water-soluble copolymer of the sodium salt of styrene sulfonic acid and a carboxyl-containing monomer and (3) carboxylic groups on the film surface to be protected, with (4) a water-soluble polyfunctional aziridine crosslinking agent.
Abstract: The resistance to degradation on exposure to high temperatures, water and organic liquids of a polyurethane prepared by reacting a tetrahydrofuran/alkylene oxide polymerizate, an organic polyisocyanate and a chain extender is significantly improved by using a tetrahydrofuran/alkylene oxide polymerizate which contains no more than about 3%, by weight, of oligomeric cyclic ethers.
Abstract: A biphase shift keyed modulated carrier is input to an analog delay line having a plurality of sampling taps time spaced along the line. The modulated input carrier is sampled at a rate four times the carrier frequency to produce amplitude samples of the input. The taps of the delay line are divided into two groups comprising alternate tap sets and the amplitude samples of each group are summed for decoding the I and Q channels of a modulated carrier. The summed signal of each of the channels is input to an individual sample and hold circuit which aliases the carrier frequency to baseband. The output of the first sample and hold circuit of each channel is provided to a second sample and hold circuit for the respective channels. The second sample and hold circuit of each channel is clocked at a data rate derived from a bit timing loop.

Abstract: Apparatus for transporting stacks of paper sheets from a gathering station which receives successive rows of aligned stacks to two packing machines has a discrete staggering conveyor for each stack of a row. These conveyors serve to convert each row into two groups of staggered stacks and cooperate with auxiliary conveyors which deliver such stacks to successive pallets of two separate sets of pallets which advance the stacks toward the respective packing machines. The pallets of each set travel along a separate main track. The main tracks are parallel to each other and flank two crossing connecting tracks.
Abstract: A high-solids coating composition containing an unsaturated fatty acid alkyd resin, an alkyl dimethacrylate or trimethacrylate monomer, a protected cobalt oxime catalyst, and a polar solvent. The di- or trimethacrylate monomer crosslinks with the alkyd and becomes part of the solid paint film.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for splitting wood such as logs, comprising a prime mover selectively connectable to an elongated screw member to rotate the screw member in the clockwise direction and the counterclockwise direction, the screw member being mounted for rotation with a thrust bearing at one end of the screw member, an elongated bed structure, a trolley mounted for movement along the elongated bed structure, a nut having screw threads complementary to the screw member defined therethrough attached to the trolley and receiving and engaging the threads of the elongated screw member, and an abutment and a cutting blade, one of which is mounted to the trolley and the other of which is mounted to the bed structure adjacent the thrust bearing such that a log may be placed between the splitting blade and abutment and the blade urged into the log by moving the trolley towards the log by rotation of the screw member with the screw member being in tension during the splitting operation.

Abstract: A continuous process for making alkyl aldosides from polysaccharides and more particularly mixed alkyl glycosides from starch by direct alcoholysis. A polysaccharide, such as starch, is slurried in an alcohol and passed through a heated, confined zone under pressure in the presence of an acid catalyst to form a mixed alkyl aldoside. The alcohols which may be used include methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol, their isomers and mixtures thereof. Higher alkyl glycosides are surfactants and, in some instances, it is advantageous to use higher alcohols, such as decyl and dodecyl alcohols, to obtain particular surfactant properties in the resulting alkyl glycosides. Mixed alkyl glycosides are useful in detergent applications, and as backbone polymers in polyurethane foams.

Abstract: An improved warp size for filament yarn is provided consisting essentially of polyvinyl alcohol, alkyl phenoxy (or cresoxy) ethoxyethyl dimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride and a plasticizer such as glycerol or urea, which when applied to filament yarn from aqueous solution provides excellent weaving efficiency and ease of removal combined with low shedding in the loom.
Abstract: A three-coat system for use on bakeware which has a silvery appearance and can be cured at low temperatures. First, an epoxide-formaldehyde-nitrogen resin primer, which may contain aluminum flake, is applied to the substrate, then a reactive silicone-epoxy coat containing talc and coarse aluminum flake is applied. Finally, a less reactive silicone resin containing coarse aluminum flake, but no other pigment is applied. The two final coats are applied directly on the preceding coat after only ambient temperature air drying. After the final coat is applied, the coated article is baked at temperatures that need not exceed 275.degree. C.
Abstract: A decoy-launching pack for mounting on a directional carriage for foiling or frustrating weapons guidance systems. The pack comprises a rigid base suitable for positioning in a predetermined manner on said carriage, a firing means incorporated with said base for operation in conjunction with a firing-control component integrated in said carriage when said base is located thereupon, and a support located above and secured to said base and having the rack-shaped upper surface defining predetermined angled slopes. A firing transmission pyrotechnical chain extends from said firing means to the level of said angled slopes of the upper surface of said support, and a plurality of mortars are arranged with an ejection charge at the bottom bearing upon said angled slopes of said upper surface of said support, said mortars being predirected in the same plane, according to predetermined angles related to those of said angled slopes of the support surface.
