C. and a pressure of 50-800 p.s.i.g.
Abstract: A method of rinsing a wetted particulate solid bed in liquid-contacting service by gravity draining or by gas blowing the bed and then rinsing it with successive gas-impelled pulses of rinse liquid.
Abstract: Plastic materials are dewatered in an extruder by applying heat and pressure and venting out vaporized water; before the plastic is extruded through the die orifice a gas is injected under high pressure into the plastic and this causes gas explosions when the plastic is released through the die orifices. The particles produced have micropores which provide improved workability, and form bales of controllable density.
Abstract: A signal detector monitoring the presence or absence of line currents in a multiplicity of circuits of a telecommunication system includes an orthogonal matrix MN of magnetic-core sensors divided into (m+1) rows and (n+1) columns. The cores of the first m rows and first n columns constitute active sensors provided with respective writing conductors extending from m.multidot.n monitored circuits. A duplicated first set of wires 1A, 1B, each coacting with the cores of one row, are successively energized with interrogation and resetting currents in the course of a scanning cycle; a duplicated second set of wires 2A, 2B, each coacting with the cores of one column, terminate at respective sense amplifiers AS which read the states of the interrogated cores and load the detected responses into a buffer register RPP from which they are serially read out to a processor DU.

Abstract: Fibers with enhanced tenacity are prepared by heat treating oriented fibers from anisotropic-melt-forming linear aromatic and cycloaliphatic polymers, especially polyesters (including copolyesters), while said fibers are essentially relaxed, at temperatures near the flow temperature but sufficiently below to prevent substantial interfilament fusion, for a period of from five seconds to several hours until the fiber tenacity is increased by at least 50% and to at least 10 grams per denier.
Abstract: A biocular magnifying lens suitable for use as an eyepiece in a night vision device comprises from front to back a positive element which is bi-convex or meniscus convex towards the front, a negative meniscus element concave towards the front, a positive singlet or doublet element which is convex towards the front, a positive element which is bi-convex or meniscus convex towards the front, and a positive meniscus element convex towards the front.
Abstract: In the use of certain metal salts of the hemi-perester of maleic acid as catalysts for the polymerization and curing of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and of methyl methacrylate-containing syrups the addition of an activator such as sodium bisulfite provides a substantial reduction in the curing time. The process is relatively insensitive to the amount of filler used. The salts of maleic hemi-peresters, in combination with the activators, are also useful for polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers.
Abstract: Polysiloxane resin coatings containing a dispersed phase of particulate organic modifier which is tougher than the polysiloxane and which has an adequately high coefficient of friction have improved craze resistance permitting the use of thicker coatings with greater durability.
Abstract: Apparatus supports a chair at the side of a pool in position to receive handicapped person. Chair is rotated out over the water and then lowered into the water where the occupant glides or pushes off for a swimming or therapy session. The chair is adapted to receive the person after the session and then is raised out of the water and rotated back to the poolside position so the person can leave the chair.
Abstract: An improved quartz crystal resonator of the type comprising an AT type cut quartz plate is provided in which the plate comprises metallized main electrodes on opposed surfaces thereof which are surrounded by spaced apart metallized supplementary control electrodes. The opposed surfaces of the plate provide a non-metallized unused portion for the plate over a substantial portion of the opposed surfaces. Each of the supplementary control electrodes has at least an associated parameter of width, thickness, density, air gap distance from the respective main electrode and an applied electrode potential and each of the main electrodes has at least an associated corresponding parameter. At least one of the associated parameters of the supplementary electrodes is different from the corresponding associated parameter for the respective main electrodes for controlling the associated Q- factor and frequency of the spurious resonance frequencies.

Abstract: A water-based polyurethane dispersion is prepared by mixing an aliphatic diisocyanate with three critical active hydrogen compounds, to form a prepolymer containing carboxyl groups and free isocyanate groups, then dispersing the prepolymer in an aqueous medium containing a tertiary amine, which converts the carboxyl groups to carboxylate ions, and a diamine, which chain-extends the prepolymer through its --NCO groups. These aqueous dispersions are storage-stable for at least several months and are useful in many coating applications, among others, for coating textile materials.
