  • Patent number: 4182504
Abstract: An apparatus for axial support and shock suppression of a pipe includes a walking beam having an inner portion secured to the pipe and an outer portion. The inner and outer portions of the walking beam are pivotally interconnected above an axis extending through the centerline of the pipe. A pair of support members are pivotally connected to the outer portion of the walking beam on opposite sides of the pipe so that longitudinal loads to the pipe are reacted without effecting a bending moment in the pipe. In the preferred embodiment, a rigid strut and a yieldable snubber device comprise the support members.

  • Patent number: 4181747
Abstract: A processed vegetable seed fiber, particularly corn and soybean fiber, for use in food products is disclosed. Processing is accomplished by heating an aqueous slurry of the crude vegetable seed fiber to about 155.degree.-180.degree. F., and then maintaining the pH of the heated slurry in the range of about 2.5 to 5.0. The elevated temperature of the slurry is maintained for up to about 15 to 60 minutes while the slurry is agitated. The resulting acid-pasteurized slurry is then dewatered to obtain a fiber material at about 20-30% dry solids. Fresh water is then added to the dewatered fiber material to reslurry it to about 3-4% dry solids. The reslurried fiber material is agitated at a temperature up to about 140.degree. F. for about fifteen to thirty minutes, dewatered a second time, and then dried to about 10% moisture.

  • Patent number: 4180908
Abstract: A grooving tool has a support provided with a handle formed on its lower surface with a substantially flat sliding face and having a pair of generally parallel slots opening at this face and extending in a predetermined direction. A blade is secured in each of the two slots with portions of the blades extending beyond the face and the cutting edges of the blades forming a vertex in projection in the predetermined direction on a plane perpendicular to this direction. The parts of the support forming the lower surface can be displaceable relative to the blades to vary the spacing between the vertex and the surface for a different depth of cut. The tool can be drawn along a workpiece such as a board of insulating material so as to cut in it a very neat groove by excising a strip which may be of triangular section if the blades are planar or of semicircular section if the blades have curved lower ends.

  • Patent number: 4181247
Abstract: A yarn-handling device is provided which operates in accordance with the principle of aspiration and exhibits improved efficiency and less noise. The device, which is suitable for string-up, doffing and stripping operations, has a yarn inlet tube and a yarn outlet tube located in series on the same longitudinal axis. The outer surface of the outlet end of the yarn inlet tube is frusto-conical, having a taper angle of about 25.degree. with the axis and containing a plurality of flutes, each at an angle of about 30.degree. with the slant height of the frusto-conical surface. The inlet to the yarn outlet tube is preceded by another frusto-conical surface which is coaxial with the first mentioned frusto-conical surface and spaced therefrom in almost nested relationship to form an annular passage for pressurized air to flow into the yarn outlet tube, aspirate yarn into the yarn inlet tube and carry the yarn through the tubes.
