Publication number: 20100008021Abstract: An extremely high-performance polyaniline electrode was prepared by potentiostatic deposition of aniline on hierarchically porous carbon monolith (HPCM), which was carbonized from mesophase pitch. A capacitance value of 2200 F g?1 of polyaniline was obtained at a power density of 0.47 kW kg?1 and an energy density of 300 Wh kg?1. This active material deposited on HPCM also has an advantageous high stability. These superior advantages can be attributed to the backbone role of HPCM. This method also has the advantages of not introducing any binder, thus contributing to the increase of ionic conductivity and power density. High specific capacitance, high power and energy density, high stability, and low cost of active material make it very promising for supercapacitors.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2007Publication date: January 14, 2010Applicant: Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Wissenschaften e. Publication number: 20100010077Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the additivation of wine, more specifically for the formation of compounds that are beneficial to health. The process is based on the contact of natural materials, namely cork, with wine, under conditions where certain compounds of the said materials react with other compounds present in the wine in order to form therein compounds with properties that are beneficial to the health of the consumer, namely a potent anti-cancerous agent called acutissimin-A. Additionally, the contact of the wine with the material also promotes the passage and interaction of compounds which will organoleptically influence the wine. The additivation process involves the contact with cork usually in fines particles, either at the final stage of vinification before bottling, during bottling or immediately before consumption, through different retention systems (filters, cartridges, etc.).Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2007Publication date: January 14, 2010Applicant: Instituto Nacional de Engenharia Tecnologia E InovInventors: Luis Manuel Da Costa Cabral E Gil, Carlos Rodrigues Pereira

Patent number: 7646330Abstract: Communication between a remote locator and a transponder is used to determine the relative position of the transponder. The transponder and locator each include a transmitter and a receiver. The locator transmits an inquiry in the form of a relatively powerful cyclically encoded signal with repetitive elements, uniquely associated with a target transponder. Periodically, each transponder correlates its coded ID against a possible inquiry signal, determining frequency, phase and framing in the process. Upon a match, the transponder transmits a synthesized response coherent with the received signal. The locator integrates multiple cyclical response elements, allowing low-power transmissions from the transponder. The locator correlates the integrated response, determines round-trip Doppler shift, time-of-flight, and then computes the distance and angle to the transponder. The transponder can be wearable, bionically implanted, or attached to, or embedded in, some object.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2005Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignee: Alfred E.
