Patent number: 5659334Abstract: A thermally stable, mass-producible pointing device (10) producing an analog signal proportional to an applied force comprises actuator (20), including an arm (22) and a force transfer member (26), a connector (44), and a sensor (50). The connector maintains the force transfer member in contact with the sensor yet allows the force transfer member to change dimensions with ambient temperature without inducing stresses detectable by the sensor. In a preferred embodiment, the connector comprises an elastomeric adhesive and the sensor comprises a force-sensing resistor. The force transfer member is prevented from coming out of the assembly either by a retainer (12) comprising a shell or a potting compound retaining the force transfer member but permitting thermal expansion or contraction of the force transfer member. The force transfer member typically has a rounded or bevelled bottom surface (28) so the actuator rocks under an applied force.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1993Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Interlink Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Stuart I. Patent number: 5659621Abstract: An apparatus for controlling an adjustable operational parameter of a hearing aid by the use of an external magnetic actuator held in proximity with the hearing aid. The hearing aid has a microphone for generating signals, hearing aid circuitry for processing the signals, an output transducer for transforming the processed signals to a user compatible form, and a single magnetic switch, such as a reed switch, connected to the hearing aid circuitry. The magnetic switch controls the hearing aid circuitry to adjust an adjustable operational parameter, such as volume. In one embodiment the adjustable operational parameter continues to adjust or cycle between a minimum and a maximum as long as the magnetic actuator is maintained in proximity with the magnetic switch. When the magnetic actuator is removed the adjustment ceases. The invention allows precise adjustment and control of an adjustable parameter with minimal effort and movement by the user.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1995Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Argosy Electronics, Inc.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 5657376Abstract: An improved architecture for providing high capacity capability to voice message systems is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of stand-alone voice message processors (VMP), each of which are communicatively connected via a high-speed local area network. Each of the voice message processors are communicatively connected to a network interface module (NIM) that receives all incoming calls from a public switched telephone network (PSTN). A control module is connected to the NIM and also interfaces with each of the VMPs over the local area network. As each incoming call is received, the control module routes the call to the appropriate VMP assigned to the subscriber to whom the call is designated. A terminal server is also connected to the local area network. The terminal server receives calls from subscribers utilizing a personal computer. In this manner, a subscriber can access his or her voice mailbox account.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Assignee: Glenayre Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Donald B.
