Abstract: A process for the remediation of contaminated particulate materials by the addition of an environmentally benign, carbonaceous fuel source in low concentration to enable or enhance smoldering combustion. The process may be applied to both in situ and ex situ treatments. In an ex situ smoldering process for the remediation of contaminated particulate materials in a continuous manner, contaminated feed is introduced near the top of a treatment unit and treated product emerges near the bottom. A smoldering front is maintained in the unit, fed by the fuel in the contaminated particulate material and a supply of combustion-supporting gas, such as air.

Abstract: Systems and methods for audio difference detection are described. One embodiment includes a memory component that stores logic that, when executed by a processor, causes a vehicle amplifier to receive a test input signal for a generic test sequence to determine a standard input signal for producing a desired output response signal, store the standard input signal with standard amplifier settings associated with the standard input signal, and receive an audio signal from a head unit of the vehicle, where the head unit is part of the vehicle audio system for the vehicle in which the vehicle amplifier is utilized. In some embodiments, the logic causes the vehicle amplifier to determine whether there is a difference between the audio signal and the standard input signal and in response to determining there is a difference, and adjust vehicle amplifier settings of the vehicle amplifier, such that vehicle speakers output the desired output response signal.

Abstract: An energy efficient membrane based desalination process, which utilizes an osmotically driven energy recovery sub-process. Energy recovery sub-process involves the extraction of water from low salinity first aqueous solution by using a high salinity content, pressurized second aqueous solution to draw the water from first aqueous solution across a semi-permeable membrane. High salinity content, pressurized second solution can be used to generate osmotic pressure on the low salinity content first solution to drive water from first solution to the second solution with respect to chemical potential differences. The process also harvests the Gibbs free energy of mixing in terms of pressure conservation in the second solution, while the volume of second solution is increasing by the drawn water from the first solution.

Abstract: An electrolyte solution usable in a lithium or lithium-ion battery, among other types of batteries that offers one or more of the following: improved stability (e.g., stable discharge capacities even after several cycles), elimination of the risk of unintentionally producing hydrochloric acid, improved thermal stability, and reduced production costs associated with manufacturing a battery. Indeed, the inventors have discovered an unexpected result that by including an additive to a dinnimitride salt (e.g., LiDN), the discharge capacity of the battery may improve beyond what is available in the prior art, including LiPF6. For example, production costs may be decreased since LiDN is not water-sensitive, so precautions to ensure that the compound is not exposed to water may be avoided. Further benefits include thermal stability since LiDN may be more thermally stable when compared to LiPF6.
