  • Publication number: 20050118065
Abstract: Apparatus and method capable of preparing samples adapted for observations by electron microscopy. Each sample is ion-etched. During this process, the sample stage is tilted reciprocably left and right about a tilting axis. The sample is ion-etched together with a shielding material. The sample may contain a substance that is not easily etched by the ion beam. In the present invention, such unetched portions are not produced in spite of the presence of the substance. The substance can be separated from the sample. The ion beam is directed at the sample with the boundary defined by an end surface of the shielding material. Portions of the sample at a processing position and its vicinities are etched by the beam.

  • Publication number: 20050117166
Abstract: A flying height tester includes a glass disc facing a magnetic head slider under test; an optical system for guiding light to the glass disc so that multiple reflections of light occur between the glass disc and the magnetic head slider; a light sensor receiving reflection light from the glass disc to output light intensity data; and a processor which calculates back the flying height based on an output function of the light sensor. The processor calibrates intensity gain data and intensity offset data of the output function using the data obtained in a pseudo-zero state of the flying height. This pseudo-zero state is obtained by applying an index matching liquid between a first-calibration magnetic head slider, having the same optical constants as the magnetic head slider under test, and the glass disc, the index matching liquid having a refractive index identical to the glass disc.

  • Patent number: 6900151
Abstract: An in situ process for conducting regeneration of spent hydrocarbon synthesis catalyst. Regenerated, but not yet re-activated, catalyst (15) may be introduced into an operating HCS reactor (1) that has catalyst rejuvenation means (14). Any combination of a fresh, activated catalyst, a fresh, passivated catalyst or short-term or long-term deactivated catalysts may already be present in the HCS reactor (1). The regenerated, but not yet re-activated catalyst is activated in the HCS reactor (1) with rejuvenation means (14) at normal process conditions. The HCS reactor (1) receives syngas through the inlet line (3) and releases liquid hydrocarbons through outlet line (4) and gaseous hydrocarbon and unreacted syngas through the offgas line (2). Catalyst is removed from the HCS reactor (1) through the slipstream line (5) and into a filtration unit (6) which is fed with a stripping fluid (7). The filtered catalyst proceeds to the regeneration unit (9) which is fed a regenerative fluid (10).

Abstract: The invention disclosed is a magnetorheological fluid device offering vibration isolation and broad modulation range damping in a high load carrying and compact form. A cylindrically shaped flexure structure has a bottom cap attached to one end and a top cap attached to the other end. A piston comprising a toroidal displacement body, a central shaft, and intermediate connecting plate, attaches to the top cap. A fluid chamber surrounding and generally conforming to the shape of the toroidal displacement body, is attached to the bottom cap. Two bellows attaching between the piston connecting plate and top and bottom portions of the fluid chamber complete an enclosed volume around the toroidal displacement body and allow frictionless motion of the toroidal displacement body relative to the fluid chamber.
