Abstract: Provided herein is a method for preparing a metal oxide nanoparticle/graphene composite using a supercritical fluid and the metal oxide nanoparticle/graphene composite prepared thereby, the method including preparing a dispersed solution by dispersing graphene oxide and a metal oxide precursor in an organic solvent and forming the metal oxide nanoparticle/graphene composite by reacting the dispersed solution under a supercritical condition, thereby uniformly dispersing the metal oxide nanoparticles on a graphene sheet.

Abstract: A vertical type light emitting diode includes a nitride semiconductor having a p-n conjunction structure with a transparent material layer formed on a p type clad layer, the transparent material layer having a refractive index different from that of the p type clad layer and having a pattern structure of mesh, punched plate, or one-dimensional grid form, etc. A reflective metal electrode layer is formed on the transparent material layer as a p-electrode. A stereoscopic pattern is formed in the transparent material layer and the p-electrode deposited, and thereby forming the pattern in the p-electrode. Depositing the p-electrode on only 10 to 70% of the upper portion of the p type clad layer in an ultraviolet ray light emitting diode such that an area where the p type clad layer is exposed is wide increases the transmittance of ultraviolet rays through an area where the p-electrode is not deposited.

Abstract: An improved bracket assembly for receiving a brake assembly and a brake actuator is provided. The bracket assembly includes a tube configured to receive a camshaft of the brake assembly and an actuator mounting bracket disposed proximate a first end of the tube. Abstract: A disc brake for a vehicle axle includes a brake rotor, a brake caliper that straddles the brake rotor, a wheel hub, and a plurality of brake rotor mounting elements that couple the brake rotor to the wheel hub. Abstract: According to one embodiment, a scheduling method for load balancing in an electronic device such as a server when performing multiple transcoding operations includes performing a first transcoding operation in order to transmit at least one moving image file to a first terminal. The server receives a request from a second terminal to transmit at least one moving image file while performing the first transcoding. The server performs a second transcoding operation in order to transmit the requested moving image file to the second terminal. The server monitors output frame rates of the first transcoding operation and the second transcoding operation, to control the output frame rates.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system and method for performing single-shot digital holography include an optical hybrid assembly configured to receive a reference beam from a light source and another beam, and a balanced detector comprising multiple sensor arrays that are configured to receive outputs of the optical hybrid assembly and simultaneously measure in-phase and quadrature components of an incoming light wavefront that results from interference between the reference beam and the other beam within the optical hybrid assembly to provide a full set of digital holograms in a single exposure.

Abstract: The use of the electride form of 12CaO-7Al2O3, or C12A7, as a low work function electron emitter in a hollow cathode discharge apparatus is described. No heater is required to initiate operation of the present cathode, as is necessary for traditional hollow cathode devices. Because C12A7 has a fully oxidized lattice structure, exposure to oxygen does not degrade the electride. The electride was surrounded by a graphite liner since it was found that the C12A7 electride converts to it's eutectic (CA+C3A) form when heated (through natural hollow cathode operation) in a metal tube.

Abstract: An apparatus for aiding visualization of a prosthetic implant and concurrently landmarking a patient tissue includes a center post having proximal and distal post ends longitudinally separated by a post body. The post body defines a post axis coaxially therewith. An implant emulator embodies a reference feature of a prosthetic implant. The implant emulator is carried on an outer surface of the center post at a predetermined longitudinal spacing from the distal post end. A guiding device is removably attached to the implant emulator. The guiding device includes an attachment structure attached to the implant emulator. A spacing arm is connected to the attachment structure and extends laterally outward from the post axis. A landmark guiding structure is connected to the spacing arm, spaced apart from the center post, and embodies at least one of a location and a trajectory for placement of a landmark.
Abstract: The invention relates to the development of chimeric OspA molecules for use in a new Lyme vaccine. More specifically, the chimeric OspA molecules comprise the proximal portion from one OspA serotype, together with the distal portion from another OspA serotype, while retaining antigenic properties of both of the parent polypeptides. The chimeric OspA molecules are delivered alone or in combination to provide protection against a variety of Borrelia genospecies. The invention also provides methods for administering the chimeric OspA molecules to a subject in the prevention and treatment of Lyme disease or borreliosis.

Abstract: A mechanism and method for motion conversion is disclosed. This mechanism can be easily fabricated using standard bulk micromachining technology. Based on this method with appropriate design, a horizontal, in-plane motion can be converted to a vertical or angular displacement out-of-plane. This design has great advantages in micro devices, which are built from a single layer, i.e. wafer fabrication, where an in-plane force is easy to implement, such as by the use of comb drive mechanisms, but an out-of-plane motion may be hard to achieve. The mechanism comprises a pair of beams of different heights, rigidly connected together at a number of points along their length, such that application of an in-plane force to the double beam structure results in out-of-plane motion of the double beam structure at points distant from the point of application of the force.
