  • Publication number: 20200286643
Abstract: A new solvent-based method is presented for making low-cost composite graphite electrodes containing a thermoplastic binder. The electrodes, termed thermoplastic electrodes (TPEs), are easy to fabricate and pattern, give excellent electrochemical performance, and have high conductivity (1500 S m?1). The thermoplastic binder enables the electrodes to be hot embossed, molded, templated, and/or cut with a CO2 laser into a variety of intricate patterns. These electrodes show a marked improvement in peak current, peak separation, and resistance to charge transfer over traditional carbon electrodes. The impact of electrode composition, surface treatment (sanding, polishing, plasma treatment), and graphite source were found to impact fabrication, patterning, conductivity, and electrochemical performance. Under optimized conditions, electrodes generated responses similar to more expensive and difficult to fabricate graphene and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite electrodes.

  • Publication number: 20200283364
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gingerol derivative having inhibitory activity against biofilm formation and a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating infections caused by biofilms including the gingerol derivative as an active ingredient. The gingerol derivative of the present invention exhibits significantly improved binding affinity for LasR and inhibitory activity against biofilm formation. Therefore, the gingerol derivative of the present invention can act on various membrane surfaces where biofilms tend to form and can effectively inhibit the formation of the corresponding biofilms. In addition, the use of the pharmaceutical composition according to the present invention can fundamentally prevent or treat a variety of infections caused by biofilms due to the presence of the gingerol derivative in the pharmaceutical composition.

  • Patent number: 10767164
Abstract: Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) are promising cell source to produce therapeutic endocrine cells for diabetes treatment. A gel solution made by decellularized tissue-specific extracellular matrix (dpECM) significantly promotes three-dimensional (3D) islet-like organogenesis during induced hPSC differentiation into endocrine lineages. Islet organoids are self-organized even in a two-dimensional (2D) culture mode. Cells derived from hPSCs differentiated on such ECM coated substrates exhibit similar cellular composition to native pancreatic islets. These cells express islet signature markers insulin, PDX-1, C-peptide, MafA, glucagon, somatostatin, and pancreatic polypeptide, and secrete more insulin in response to glucose level compared to a traditional matrix substrate (Matrigel). The dpECM facilitates generating more C-peptide+/glucagon? cells rather than C-peptide+/glucagon+ cells. Remarkably, dpECM also facilitated intra-organoid vascularity by generating endothelial cells and pericytes.
