Abstract: Methods and systems for determining patient and geographic specific medical reports are provided. In one example, a method includes receiving a result of a diagnostic test performed on a patient, and creating, by a computing device, an output of the result in a report. The method further includes based on the result being indicative of a condition, providing by the computing device in the report a geographic representation of one or more incidences of the condition reported in a geographic region associated with the patient. In other example methods, based on the result being indicative of the absence of at least one tick-borne disease or heartworm disease, a geographic representation of one or more incidences of the disease reported in a geographic region associated with the patient may be provided in the report.

Abstract: A method and system for reporting medical data including both current and past medical results for medical tests performed on a patient is provided. The medical data is output in columns, and the current results and past results of the same medical test are presented in the same row. In this manner, the report is provided in a layout that has rows and columns, so that all current results are presented in one column, and all past results are presented in a separate column. In addition, graphs of the medical results can be displayed to illustrate current and past medical results in a view that allows for trend and comparative diagnosis.

Abstract: Management of the health status of an animal colony using a plurality of blood collection cards and the analysis of dried blood from members of the colony that has been collected on the cards. Members of the colony may be removed from the colony as a result of the analysis.
Abstract: A method and system for creating a name structure is provided. According to at least one embodiment, the method includes, for each data type of a plurality of data types, receiving an indication of a desired ordinal value of the data type and receiving an indication of a desired character length to associate with the data type. Based on the desired ordinal value and the desired character length of each data type of the plurality of data types, the method includes constructing a field structure that comprises a plurality of fields. Each field of the plurality of fields represents a unique data type of the plurality of data types and each field of the plurality of fields has a character length equal to the desired character length of the data type the given field represents. Additionally, each field of the plurality of fields is positioned in the field structure according to the desired ordinal value of the data type the given field represents.

Abstract: The invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions that provide sustained-release of a pharmaceutically active compound and to methods of treating or preventing a condition in an animal by administering the pharmaceutical compositions to the animal. When the pharmaceutical compositions are administered to an animal by injection, they form a drug depot that releases the pharmaceutically active compound over time. The pharmaceutical compositions can also be administered orally.

Abstract: Method of detecting Symmetrical dimethyl arginine (SDMA) in biological samples. SDMA analogs for generating anti-SDMA antibodies having little or no cross-reactivity with asymmetrical dimethyl arginine, arginine, and monomethylarginine. The analogs have a protected or free thiol (—SH) group or hydroxyl (—OH) group that allow them to be linked to a suitable conjugation target which can be, for example, a protein containing molecule of a label. The anti-SDMA antibodies can be used in diagnostic immunoassay for the diagnosis of SDMA associated disorders and/or diseases.

Abstract: Method, device and kit for the detection of antibodies directed to Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). The method includes contacting the felid biological sample with FIV env polypeptide and detecting whether the polypeptide substantially binds to the antibody in the biological sample. The method will detect FIV antibodies in a sample from animals that have been naturally infected but the method will not detect antibodies in a sample from animals that have not been infected and that have not been vaccinated with an FIV vaccine after within about the previous five to eight weeks.

Abstract: Methods, devices, kits and compositions for detecting the presence or absence of one or more helminthic coproantigens in a sample are disclosed herein. The methods, devices, kits and compositions of the present invention may be used to confirm the presence or absence of roundworm, whipworm and/or hookworm in a fecal sample from a mammal and may also be able to distinguish between one or more helminth infections. Confirmation of the presence or absence of roundworm, whipworm and/or hookworm in the mammal may be made, for example, for the purpose of selecting an optimal course of treating the mammal and/or for the purpose of determining whether the mammal has been rid of the infection after treatment has been initiated.

Abstract: A method of normalizing an analyzer response value of a fluorescence analyzer is provided. The method includes measuring an excitation spectrum of the analyzer and measuring an emission sensitivity spectrum of the analyzer. Next, a normalization factor based at least in part upon the excitation spectrum of the analyzer and the emission sensitivity spectrum of the analyzer is determined. The sample is then analyzed to obtain an uncorrected analyzer response value. A normalized analyzer response value is calculated based at least in part upon the uncorrected analyzer response value and the normalization factor.

Abstract: Ehrlichia canis antigens that can be used to differentiate E. canis infected animals from animals that have been challenged with E. canis, e.g., vaccinated against E. canis, are disclosed. The invention also provides compositions and methods for determining the presence of E. canis antigens and antibodies.
Abstract: A method to track stability and performance of diagnostic instrumentation, especially for veterinary automated hematology analyzers, applies a weighted moving averages algorithm to the diagnostic results of patient samples calculated by the analyzer. Control chart rules are used to set limits or ranges in order to determine if weighted averaged diagnostic results are within or outside of such limits or ranges. If the weighted average diagnostic results are outside of such control chart rule limits, then fuzzy logic and a gradient descent algorithm are applied to the weighted averaged diagnostic results.
Abstract: A retaining clip for retaining reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement is formed as a unitary member and has first, second and third plates, each having an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface of the first plate pivots towards the inner surface of the second plate, and the inner surface of the third plate also pivots such that the inner surfaces of the first and third plates at least partially face each other upon pivoting. The inner surfaces of the first and third plates are separated by a distance to accommodate the reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement. Alternatively, the third and second plates can be fixed rigidly to each other with only the first plate pivoting to at least partially face the third plate upon pivoting.

Abstract: A proboscis for use with a diagnostic instrument includes an elongated main body having a proximal end and an opposite distal end, and a lumen extending between the proximal and distal ends. The distal end includes an orifice which is in fluid communication with the lumen. A fluid splash guard is affixed to the main body at the distal end, and provides protection for the orifice and lumen from being clogged with a sample fluid.
