Patent number: 12201211Abstract: A rotating grooming brush comprising a brush hub having grooming elements and shroud elements, and method for grooming a surface having an unwanted material thereon. The elements extend from the brush hub and may be positioned near its outer periphery. The elements may be grooming elements forming an array and shroud elements forming a shroud array. A rigid or elastomeric shroud extending from the brush hub surface may optionally be included about the edge of the brush hub, to the outside of the grooming elements. Rotation of the grooming attachment brush causes a low pressure region to build in the central area of the brush. This low pressure region creates a resulting force that forcefully attracts the grooming attachment brush to the surface to be groomed. The resulting force is controlled by the diameter of the brush hub, arrangement, of the elements and the speed of rotation.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2022Date of Patent: January 21, 2025Assignee: Florida Institute of Technology, Inc.Inventors: Geoffrey Swain, Michael Harper, Melissa Tribou, Harrison Arthur Gardner, Caglar Erdogan

Publication number: 20250023662Abstract: Systems and methods disclose a practical implementation of optimal modulation (OM) for the Complex Additive White Gaussian Noise (CAWGN) channel. At the sender, we map from uniform distributions of data to non-uniform distributions of points in constellations by using a technique inspired by Huffman codes. We replace Gray codes with a bit mapping suited to our constellations, where different points may map to string of bits of different lengths. At the receiver, we perform distribution-aware detection. The differing lengths of bits for modulation points can used as a simple checking mechanism that, when combined with guessing random additive noise decoding (GRAND), yields bit-error-rate (BER) advantages.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2022Publication date: January 16, 2025Applicants: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, National University of Ireland MaynoothInventors: Muriel MEDARD, Kenneth R.
