Abstract: Integrated Combustion Reactors (ICRs) and methods of making ICRs are described in which combustion chambers (or channels) are in direct thermal contact to reaction chambers for an endothermic reaction. Superior results were achieved for combustion chambers which contained a gap for free flow through the chamber. Particular reactor designs are also described. Processes of conducting reactions in integrated combustion reactors are described and results presented. Some of these processes are characterized by unexpected and superior results.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the formation and processing of nanostructures including nanotubes. Some embodiments provide processes for nanostructure growth using relatively mild conditions (e.g., low temperatures). In some cases, methods of the invention may improve the efficiency (e.g., catalyst efficiency) of nanostructure formation and may reduce the production of undesired byproducts during nanostructure formation, including volatile organic compounds and/or polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons. Such methods can both reduce the costs associated with nanostructure formation, as well as reduce the harmful effects of nanostructure fabrication on environmental and public health and safety.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods for retaining and expressing physiologically active substances in a target tissue-specific-manner, by administering the physiologically active substances to target submucous tissue. Specifically, the present inventors demonstrated that, when physiologically active substances were directly administered into submucous tissues without using a carrier, the physiologically active substances were effectively and safely retained at the administration sites over long periods without loss and diffusion, and produced the effect acting in a reservoir-like fashion. The physiologically active substances administered as described above were demonstrated to produce the therapeutic effect without having an influence on organs other than the administered organ.

Abstract: A surgical device mitigates over-puncture with a bias spring that biases a leading, cutting edge in the opposite direction of the anticipated over-puncture. An associated locking mechanism is configured to release the force of the bias spring in a direction counter to the direction of insertion when the tension force of tissue against the cutting edge is released. Thus, when an opening in the tissue forms, the tension is released and the cutting edge can move opposite to the direction of insertion of the surgical device at the same time that an applied force drives the instrument in the direction of insertion. In this manner, the spring and locking mechanism cooperate to move the cutting edge opposite to the direction of insertion as soon as an incision is made.

  • Publication number: 20140133413
Abstract: In order to reduce interference that may be generated when a plurality of signals having different subcarrier intervals are received, a method of controlling a signal having a larger subcarrier interval to be suitable for a signal having a smaller subcarrier interval and a method of removing CFO interference are provided. Subcarrier intervals of a plurality of signals to be transmitted by wireless terminals are compared with each other, and signals are designed so that a signal having the largest subcarrier interval may be repeatedly transmitted. Therefore, interference that may be generated among different kinds of signals when the base station simultaneously receives the different kinds of signals to perform Fourier transform may be mitigated. In addition, interference caused by a CFO may be removed by previously compensating the CFO estimated in a time domain to perform Fourier transform.
