    Abstract: An electric power steering (EPS) apparatus 1 includes a motor 12, an EPS actuator 10, a torque sensor 14, and an ECU 11. The EPS actuator 10 uses the motor 12 as a drive source to apply assist force to a steering system, thereby assisting a steering operation. The torque sensor 14 detects a steering torque ? of the steering system. The ECU 11 controls the operation of the EPS actuator 10. Based on the steering torque ? detected by the torque sensor 14, the ECU 11 computes a basic shift amount ?ts_b of the assist force applied to the steering system. The ECU 11 determines which one of returning, holding, and turning is the state of the steering operation. When the state of the steering operation is returning or holding, the ECU 11 executes compensation control for correcting the steering torque ?, which is used in the computation of the basic shift amount ?ts_b of the assist force, thereby increasing the assist force applied to the steering system.

    Abstract: An electric power steering apparatus comprises a transmission mechanism having a drive gear and a driven gear. One end of the drive gear is supported by a bearing hole in a housing through a bearing and a curved plate spring. The curved plate spring comprises a main body surrounding the bearing and at least one crank-shaped elastic tongue supported by at least one of ends of the main body. A recess formed on an inner peripheral surface of the bearing hole has a bottom and a pair of inner wall surfaces opposed to each other in the circumferential direction of the bearing hole. A relief portion for avoiding contact with a connection portion of the elastic tongue is formed between at least one of the inner wall surfaces and the inner peripheral surface of the bearing hole. A boundary between the relief portion and the inner peripheral surface of the bearing hole is engaged with the main body of the curved plate spring, to restrict the movement of the main body in the circumferential direction.

    Abstract: While a microcomputer is executing a self-diagnosis (A), second diagnosis pulse output means of a B-system microcomputer is not used utterly. By shifting the timings for the A-system and the B-system to output the diagnosis pulses, independencies can be secured between respective diagnosis processing (self-diagnoses (A) and (B)). Thus, the independencies between the A-system and the B-system can be verified briefly by the self-diagnosis (A) on the A-system side. Further, first diagnosis pulse group are outputted parallel and simultaneously from first diagnosis pulse output means. Thus, since cyclic control is not required for respective external input devices, it can be done to verify the independencies between the A-system and the B-system within a short period of time.

    Abstract: There is provided a steering apparatus to ease an uncomfortable feeling given to an operator when a steering wheel is connected to a steering mechanism, on a fail. The apparatus includes a unit that varies an angular ratio of a steering angle of front wheels with respect to an operational angle of a steering wheel. The apparatus also includes a connection unit such as a electromagnetic clutch for connecting the steering wheel to the steering mechanism in order to fix the angular ratio, on a fail such as a failure of a steering motor. The apparatus also includes a rotational body which relatively rotates with respect to the steering wheel by an angular deviation upon this connection. Accordingly, since a real neutral position of the steering mechanism coincides with a neutral position recognized by a pattern on the rotational body being seen, it eases the uncomfortable feeling onto the operator.
