Abstract: A Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON), including an enhanced Optical Line Termination (OLT) and Optical Network Units (ONUs), provides enhanced features, e.g., features defined in XG-PON. One or more of the ONUs are enhanced ONUs. The enhanced OLT communicates with the ONUs via downstream frames and upstream bursts, each downstream frame and upstream burst being compliant with a GPON framing format. The enhanced OLT transmits downstream frames to the ONUs, the downstream frames including downstream sub-frames with at least one downstream sub-frame being an overhead sub-frame that includes information of the enhanced features. The enhanced OLT receives upstream bursts from the ONUs, the upstream bursts including upstream sub-frames, each upstream sub-frame including an upstream identifier field that indicates to the enhanced OLT whether the upstream sub-frame is an overhead sub-frame.
Abstract: Among other things, embodiments described herein enable systems, e.g., Availability Management Forum (AMF) systems, having service units to operate with balanced loads both before and after the failure of one of the service units. A method for balancing standby workload assignments and active workload assignments for a group of service units in a system which employs an N+M redundancy model, wherein N service units are active service units and M service units are standby service units is described. An active workload that the N active service units need to handle is calculated and each of the N active service units in the group is provided with an active workload assignment based on the calculated active workload. Standby workload assignments are distributed among the M standby service units substantially equally.
Abstract: A method for encoding a video sequence of video frames. Each video frame includes a plurality of macro blocks. One video frame of the video sequence is encoded based on a first quantization parameter value for generating a first bit stream of encoded macro blocks (12). Transmission of a subset of the encoded macro blocks from the first bit stream is initiated (13). It is determined if the first bit stream exceeds a bit budget. If the first bit stream is determined to exceed the bit budget, a second quantization parameter value, which is larger than the first quantization parameter value, is generated. Otherwise, the second quantization parameter value, which is smaller than the first quantization parameter value, is generated. At least a part of the video frame is encoded based on the second quantization parameter value for generating a second bit stream of encoded macro blocks (15, 15a). The first bit stream and the second bit stream are then merged (17, 17a).

Abstract: The basic concept of the invention is to expand the capabilities of the MSC Server enhanced for SR-VCC and of the SCC AS to support a “session transfer revocation” procedure. To allow for such procedure it is envisaged that a MSC-Server enhanced for SR-VCC being involved in a Handover procedure for a call from a source RAN, e.g. E-UTRAN/UTRAN HSPA, to a target RAN, e.g. GERAN/UTRAN CS, sends an indication that a session transfer for said call should be performed towards the target RAN. Once the MSC-Server receives from a mobility management entity, such as MME or SGSN, of the source RAN an indication that a relocation request having initiated the session transfer indication is canceled, the MSC-Server may send an indication that the session transfer should be cancelled towards the SCC AS in the IMS which has performed the session transfer.

Abstract: A method of controlling traffic flow through a service node located within a packet network, which traffic flow originates at a plurality of sending nodes and is destined for a receiving node. The service node is one of a multiplicity of service nodes configured in a tree or other acyclic structure, e.g. of an overlay network. The method comprises receiving a challenge from said receiving node or a downstream service node, generating and caching a further challenge, and combining that further challenge with the received challenges to generate a modified challenge. The modified challenge is then sent to a sending node or to an upstream service node. Subsequently, a request is received, destined for said receiving node and originating at a sending node. A solution accompanying said request is validated using the cached further challenge, and the request forwarded towards said receiving node only if the solution is valid. Otherwise, the request is dropped.
Abstract: The disclosure relates to sunscreen compositions having a synergistic combination of titanium dioxide filtering agents that provide a high sun protection factor (SPF). Compositions according to the disclosure have high SPF values without requiring high overall amounts of titanium dioxide filtering agents. Also, the sunscreen compositions are less opaque and white than traditional sunscreens making them aesthetically appealing to consumers. Finally, the disclosure relates to methods of using the described compositions for protecting keratinous substances such as skin and hair from UV radiation.
Abstract: A packaging and applicator assembly may include: a container containing a composition for application, the composition including magnetic bodies; a magnetic device configured to enable a pattern to be made on at least one layer of composition applied on keratinous materials; and at least one item of information representative of a pattern that can be made on the composition with the magnetic device.
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for distributing load in a network. A set of routers are configured for providing IP gateway services to a set of hosts where each router in the set of routers all back up all the other routers in the same set. Each router in the set utilizes identical load distribution policies, load distribution properties and load distribution arrangement. A Load Distribution Function (LDF) master router is determined for the set of routers, wherein each one of the set of routers is a backup for the LDF master router. Every router in the set of routers utilize the same algorithm to compute load distribution and the LDF master router provides balancing information to all the other routers by including that information in VRRP advertisement messages to all the routers.

Abstract: A load balancer dynamically load balances packets for network connections between clients and servers. When receiving a packet from a client that requests a new connection, the load balancer checks the current load of all the servers and selects the server most suitable to handle the new connection. The load balancer then forwards that packet to the selected server. If the server accepts the request for the new connection, then the server responds with an acknowledgement packet. The acknowledgement packet also includes the server's blade identification that the client uses for all subsequent packets on the accepted connection. When the load balancer receives a packet containing the blade identification, the load balancer forwards the packet to the server corresponding to the blade identification. Backup load balancers can therefore continue packet forwarding services in a smooth and efficient manner.

Abstract: Protocol is provided for safe transfer of files from between nodes of a communication system. The protocol includes a handshake operation between a source (local or initiating) node sending one or more files and a remote (responding) node receiving the files to ensure that control of the file remains with the source node until the file is successfully transferred. The protocol is provided by a file transfer manager that controls the transfer process through a series of file moves that include moving the file into a directory associated with the file transfer manager, from which the file is sent and moving the file out of that directory after the remote node acknowledges a safe copy operation of the file. Files are maintained in the sending directory and under control of the source node at least for a configurable amount of time until the file is safely transferred.
