Abstract: Systems and methods for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle are described. In one example, vehicle launch is controlled according to a linear quadratic regulator that provides feedback control according to torque converter slip error and vehicle speed error. The vehicle launch is also controlled according to feed forward control that is based on requested torque converter slip and requested vehicle speed.

Abstract: Some embodiments include an energy source supply appliance. The energy source supply appliance can comprise an appliance energy source supply system, and the appliance energy source supply system can comprise a first thermal control device and a second thermal control device. The appliance energy source supply system can be configured to receive a hydrogen fuel energy source and to make available the hydrogen fuel energy source to a receiver vehicle, and the receiver vehicle can comprise a drive system configured to use the hydrogen fuel energy source received by the receiver vehicle to motively power the receiver vehicle. Other embodiments of related systems, devices, and methods also are provided.

Abstract: Systems and methods to perform image-based three-dimensional (3D) lane detection involve obtaining known 3D points of one or more lane markings in an image including the one or more lane markings. The method includes overlaying a grid of anchor points on the image. Each of the anchor points is a center of i concentric circles. The method also includes generating an i-length vector and setting an indicator value for each of the anchor points based on the known 3D points as part of a training process of a neural network, and using the neural network to obtain 3D points of one or more lane markings in a second image.

Abstract: A modular water pipe and method of manufacture in one embodiment includes a reservoir with detachable chimney. The chimney may include a mouthpiece module and optional extension and/or percolation modules. Modules may be threaded together. The reservoir and chimney may be constructed of glass and may include metallic rings fixed thereto to allow threading or other selectively removable connection of the components. A down stem may be threaded to a bowl adapter assembly to allow use of a single down stem with bowls of varying size. The rings may be bonded to the glass components using an adhesive, or they may be press-fit thereto.

Abstract: Caching storage segments (e.g., pages) loaded from a remote storage such that, during recovery, the cached loaded storage segments may be at least partially recovered without reloading the storage segments from the remote storage. During normal operation of a computing system, storage segments are loaded from remote storage into local memory of a computing system. At some point, either due to eviction of the storage segment due to aging out of the storage segment, or due to writing of the storage segment, it is determined to write at least some of the loaded storage segments into local persistent storage. In conjunction with this, the corresponding storage segment is written to a respective storage address of the local persistent storage. Also, a correlation between an identifier of the storage segment and the respective address in the persistent storage is recorded in a persistent data structure.

Abstract: A hot-pluggable barrel jack connection system includes a male barrel jack connector including a tip connector at a distal end of the male barrel jack connector and configured to conduct a ground reference voltage, a first ring connector electrically isolated from the tip connector by a first insulator, and configured to conduct a first data signal, and a sleeve connector adjacent to a base of the male barrel jack connector electrically isolated from the first ring connector, and configured to conduct a power signal.

Abstract: Techniques involving selective modification of keyboard presentation and functionality. A commanding mode is selectively activated on a virtual keyboard. Activating the commanding mode attributes commands to respective individual keys of the virtual keyboard. Also in response to the commanding mode, indicia suggestive of the command is presented on those individual keys to which the commands were attributed. The commands can be executed in an application in response to selection of the respective individual keys when in commanding mode.

Abstract: A method for generating a predicted segmentation map for potential objects in a future scene depicted in a future image is described. The method includes receiving input images that depict a same scene; processing a current input image to generate a segmentation map for potential objects in the current input image and a respective depth map; generating a point cloud for the current input image; processing the input images to generate, for each pair of two input images in the sequence, a respective ego-motion output that characterizes motion of the camera between the two input images; processing the ego-motion outputs to generate a future ego-motion output; processing the point cloud of the current input image and the future ego-motion output to generate a future point cloud; and processing the future point cloud to generate the predicted segmentation map for potential objects in the future scene depicted in the future image.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods of configuring a resource for network traffic analysis. An agent executed by a computing device receives an indication to record a browsing session. The agent records network activity data of the browsing session. The agent generates a data file with the recording. The agent transmits the data file and a request to generate a report to an analytics server. The analytics server receives the request and extracts the network activity data from the data file. The analytics server applies an event processing protocol to the network activity data. The analytics server generates a report and transmits the report to the client device for display.

Abstract: Differential restore using block-based backups is disclosed. Block restore information identifying blocks in a volume that have changed since a backup time may be determined. The block restore information may be based at least in part on stored block change information indicating monitored changes to blocks in the volume. The block restore information may be provided to a backup storage node. The block restore information is used to retrieve backup data associated with the identified blocks. The backup data may be used to restore the volume to a state at the backup time by replacing the identified blocks with corresponding backup data.

Abstract: This application is directed to performing a plurality of activities each of which is performed in a respective application with content associated with a content type selected from a group consisting of television programming, online content, on-device application, information views, and other content types. Each activity is associated with a timestamp, and described using a predefined format covering an action and content associated with the action. Each of the plurality of activities is then logged into an activities log in accordance with the predefined format. A plurality of user selectable affordances are displayed concurrently in a home screen on a display of the client device. Each of the affordances is associated with one of the plurality of activities performed with associated content, and the plurality of affordances includes at least two affordances associated with two distinct activities of the plurality of activities performed by two distinct applications.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for interacting with a tag in a wireless communications area. A user interface is generated with a digital representation of energy levels received into an energy receiving sensor, such as a CCD. The user interface includes interactive portions based upon positions of tags in a wireless communication area. A controller may determine that a Smart Device is associated with access rights to digital content associated with the tag, and the digital content may be displayed in the user interface on the Smart device.

Abstract: A battery installation method in a shelter or cabinet includes responsive to placing one or more batteries in the shelter or cabinet, connecting terminals on each of the one or more batteries to associated terminal plates with associated security screws; and connecting a bracket to a housing in the shelter or cabinet with associated security screws, wherein the bracket spans across the one or more batteries and wherein the bracket comprises raised edges which deter cutting.

Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a piston body having a generally planar crown and a sidewall extending from the crown. A stepped combustion bowl is recessed in the crown and includes an outer bowl recessed relative to the crown and defining a generally planar annular floor surface. The stepped combustion bowl further includes an inner bowl recessed relative to the outer bowl. The inner bowl includes a sidewall that slopes continually inwardly from the outer bowl to a floor surface of the inner bowl. A plurality of protruding lips extend from the sidewall toward a central axis of the piston body.

Abstract: A power supply charging system having first and second alternating power cells, a motor driven generator adapted to operably switch between providing power between the first and second alternating power cells, a third power cell which supplies power to the motor driven generator, and a control system having a power cell managing module and a charge control module. The power cell module is adapted to alternate the motor driven generator to operably switch between providing power to the first and second alternating power cells. The charge control module is adapted to detect the occurrence of a pre-determined power supply condition to activate the motor driven generator to provide power to the first or second alternating power cells. The power supply charging system may find particular use in generating a direct current, converting the direct current to an alternating current, and providing a continuous alternating current to a facility or equipment.

Abstract: A system for monitoring ultraviolet (UV) exposure of a wearer. The system comprises a wearable device operable to sense UV radiation levels to which the wearer is exposed, and to transmit UV radiation information. The system further comprises an external computing device in remote communication with the wearable device, operable to receive the UV radiation information from the wearable device and configured to determine the wearer's real-time UV index value and the wearer's daily cumulative percentage of minimal erythema dose based upon the UV radiation information.

Abstract: A method to provide network connectivity to a virtual machine hosted on a server computer system includes detecting a change in a configuration of a software-defined network to which the server computer system provides access; issuing a network configuration update (NCU) for consumption by the virtual machine, the NCU including a data structure reflecting the change in the configuration; and providing a link-state notification (LSN) to a virtual network interface card of the virtual machine pursuant to the change in the configuration, the LSN including data indicating a state of network connectivity of the virtual machine. Receipt of the LSN triggers a dynamic host-configuration protocol (DHCP) handshake by the virtual machine; the NCU is received by the virtual machine pursuant to the DHCP handshake.

Abstract: A process of manufacturing a free-flowing solid encapsulated drag reducing additive comprises: forming a solid drag reducing additive from one or more C5-20 olefin monomers; dispersing the solid drag reducing additive in a liquid medium to form a dispersion, the liquid medium comprising an encapsulant and a non-solvent; grinding the solid drag reducing additive in the liquid medium under non-cryogenic grinding conditions to form an encapsulated drag reducing additive in a particulate form; and removing the non-solvent by a drying technique including spray drying, flash drying, or rotating disc drying to form the free-flowing solid encapsulated drag reducing additive.

Abstract: A sign value of a DC coefficient of a current block is determined using neighbor blocks of the current block. First and second sign values are identified as respectively corresponding to an above neighbor block of the current block and a left neighbor block of the current block. A context value is calculated by applying a first weighting value to the first sign value and a second weighting value to the second sign value. The first weighting value is based on a boundary between the above neighbor block and the current block, and the second weighting value is based on a boundary between the left neighbor block and the current block. A probability value is selected based on the context value. The sign value of the DC coefficient of the current block is then determined using the probability model.
