Patent number: 5676461Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for adding controlled and accurate quantities of differing oils, to a polymer processing mixer without substantially contaminating one oil with another. Oils are contained in a plurality of oil supply tanks wherein each tank is fluidly connected to the mixer by an oil supply conduit. The speed of the oil pumped through the conduit is controlled by a variable speed pump motor drive unit. The quantity of oil passing through the conduit is preferably measured by a mass flowmeter and the measurement transmitted to a controller. A multi-directional valve controls the delivery of each oil into the mixer. The controller controls the delivery of oil into the mixer in response to the transmitted measurement, by varying the speed of the pump and opening and closing the valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1996Date of Patent: October 14, 1997Assignee: M. Patent number: 5674240Abstract: Cannulas for surgical and medical use expand along their entire lengths. The cannulas are inserted through tissue when in an unexpanded condition and with a small diameter. The cannulas are then expanded radially outwardly to give a full-size instrument passage. Expansion of the cannulas occurs against the viscoelastic resistance of the surrounding tissue. The expandable cannulas do not require a full depth incision, or at most require only a needle-size entrance opening. In one embodiment of the invention, the cannula has a pointed end portion. In this embodiment of the invention, the cannula includes wires having cores which are enclosed by jackets. The jackets are integrally formed as one piece with a sheath of the cannula. The cannula may be expanded by inserting members or by fluid pressure. The cannula is advantageously utilized to expand a vessel, such as a blood vessel. An expandable chamber may be provided at the distal end of the cannula.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: October 7, 1997Assignee: Peter M. BonuttiInventors: Peter M. Bonutti, James S. Patent number: 5673955Abstract: A gripping device or the like, particularly for gripping hot pans. First and second movable members are formed by molding with structural plastic material. One of the members has a pivot post extending laterally and defining a pivot axis. The other movable member has a tubular pivot member, arranged for a close fit reception over the pivot post to pivotally join the two movable members. At least one pivot post and the tubular pivot member is integral with a movable member. The pivot post has an annular groove, and the tubular pivot member includes a plurality of integral, resilient locking tabs having portions projecting radially inward at a shallow angle to the pivot axis. The two movable members are assembled by forcing the tubular pivot member over the pivot post. The locking tabs are resiliently displaced outwardly during the assembly, and snap into place in the annular groove to positively lock the two parts together.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1996Date of Patent: October 7, 1997Assignees: Magic Mold Corporation, Leonard M.
