  • Patent number: 6445918
Abstract: A method and system for reconnecting dropped calls in a mobile telecommunications network. Upon detecting a call drop of an ongoing call, a mobile station involved in the call transmits a call reconnect request to a target cell in the network. The target cell can be selected from a neighboring cell list received from a serving cell during the call. In response to the call reconnect request, a target switching node associated with the target cell locates the call and reconnects the mobile station to the call using a traffic channel in the target cell.

  • Patent number: 6445429
Abstract: A liquid crystal display panel in a mobile telephone is directly mounted to either a printed circuit board or a frame portion of a mobile telecommunication instrument, e.g., a telephone. An angular mounting structure for the liquid crystal display panel has a pair of support ribs that extend outwardly from a substantially planar portion of a frame, or back cover, of a telephone. Thus, the need for additional mounting parts is obviated. In one embodiment, the liquid crystal display panel is biasedly received within recesses provided on distal ends of support ribs extending from the frame portion. Preferably, the distal ends of the ribs have distal end surfaces which are adapted to fixedly support the liquid crystal display panel in predefined nonparallel relationship with respect to the planar portion of the back cover, with the aid of an adhesive material, e.g., a two sided adhesive tape. A method of assembly for mounting the liquid crystal display using the two sided adhesive tape is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6442393
Abstract: A method and system for automatically mapping areas of poor network coverage or high interference in a cellular network uses signal quality measures and mobile station location information. The system constructs a visual map that notes the locations of mobile stations when unacceptable base station-mobile station signal quality is reported. The visual map can be used for identifying areas of the network that may require remediation to ensure sufficient network coverage.

  • Patent number: 6442391
Abstract: The present invention relates to determining the geographic location of a mobile station in a mobile communications system. The object of the invention is to protect the integrity of the user of the mobile station, so as to prevent the location of the mobile station being established by an outsider against the will of the user. In this respect, an authorization check is carried out in conjunction with a request for determination of the geographical location of a mobile station. The geographical location is only determined when authorization is found for the mobile station to be located. This authorization control involves checking that the user of the mobile station has granted permission for the location of his mobile station MS to be determined on the part of an outsider. The authority check may also include the condition that only certain outsiders may be informed of the geographical location of the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6438108
Abstract: A method and system for transmitting acknowledgments from an acknowledgment queue in a receiving system to a receiving system in response to receipt of a data packet from the receiving system is disclosed. An acknowledgment compressor co-located with an acknowledgment queue of the receiving system compresses a plurality of acknowledgments within the acknowledgment queue into a single acknowledgment packet. The single acknowledgment packet is transmitted from the receiving system to the sending system over a packet data network wherein it is intercepted at some point by an acknowledgment decompressor prior to receipt by the sending system. The acknowledgment decompressor regenerates the plurality of acknowledgments from the single acknowledgment packet and transmits the decompressed plurality of acknowledgments to the sending system.

  • Patent number: 6435180
Abstract: A pass-over humidifier for delivering a supply of heated, humidified air through an elongated conduit to a mask worn by a patient. The humidifier is designed for wear by a patient during sleep to treat chronic breathing disorders such as allergic rhinitis. A supply of air is drawn into a humidification chamber by a fan and is passed over the surface of a water reservoir where it picks up moisture. The moisture-laden air is mixed with a stream of relatively dry heated air within the humidifier to form a humidified air stream. The humidified air stream is discharged from the humidifier into the elongate conduit at a temperature within the range of approximately 45-57° C. and at a relative humidity within the range of approximately 25-55%. Since the humidified air is preferably heated to a temperature exceeding 45° C., the humidifier is essentially self-sterilizing. The temperature of the humidified air stream drops significantly as it passes tough the conduit between the humidifier and the mask.
