Patent number: 6438104Abstract: A link level flow control method for serving ATM cell streams arriving from a number of packet sources determines a requested bandwidth share for each packet source and queues ATM cells arriving from the packet sources in a shared FIFO buffer. Based on the number of transmitted ATM cells during a pre-defined time period, non-violating packet sources and violating packet sources are identified. The non-violating packet sources are those packet sources that during the predefined time period do not require more than their requested bandwidth share, and the violating packet sources are those packet sources that during the same period require more than their requested bandwidth share. In order to maintain fairness among the packet sources, the non-violating packet sources are granted no more than their requested bandwidth share, with the remaining bandwidth not granted to the non-violating packet sources being granted to the violating packet sources.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1998Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Gabor Fodor, András Rácz

Patent number: 6435761Abstract: Slot guards for a slotted rail terminals are described having a central section and a pair of wing portions that are angularly disposed with respect to the central portion. The wing portions are folded away from the plane of the central section along lines that are angularly oriented with respect to one another so that the wing portions are wider at one end of the slot guard than at the other end. As a result, the slot guard provides a greater height at one of its ends than at the other end. Apertures for connectors are disposed through each of the wing portions, but not through the central portion. The slot guard preferably provides an asymmetrical aperture pattern and/or conspicuous markings so that the slot guard is not inadvertently installed in a reversed configuration on a guardrail. Methods for forming the slot guard are also described wherein a blank for a slot guard is cut or stamped out of a sheet of metal.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Texas A&M University SystemInventors: Roger P. Patent number: 6438116Abstract: A technique for regulating the transmit power level for a mobile station following a hard handoff in a code division multiple access (CDMA) based system is disclosed. In an embodiment of the invention, a profile is developed from data associated with transmit power levels from a statistical collection of a plurality of hard handoff events. A power margin is derived from the profile such that it may be varied in accordance with high or low load conditions in the system. The power margin is then applied to mobiles performing hard handoffs such that they transmit only at the appropriate power level required for a sufficient connection in the cell. The technique provides an automated and dynamic power margin which is scalable according to the varying loading conditions in the system. The invention reduces the amount of interference generated by transmitting at unnecessarily high power levels following hard handoffs thereby improving the overall performance and connection quality of the system.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1998Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventor: Eddie Corbett

Publication number: 20020108014Abstract: A system and method for enabling a fast wake-up of a flash memory system, without compromising the integrity of the flash data structures and without risking loss of data. This is achieved by storing translation tables in the flash, but adding some means for the software to invalidate them in a way that is detectable whenever reading them. Possible implementations include adding a checksum value that makes the sum of all entries equal some fixed known value, or adding a validity flag to the stored tables, enabling the tables to be invalidated at will. In addition, one should ask the application software to call a specific function in the translation layer before shutting the system down. The present invention enables fast wake-ups when the application software made an orderly exit and made us store the tables. In the case an orderly exit was not made, the present invention commands a regular wake-up procedure, thereby ensuring data integrity.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2001Publication date: August 8, 2002Applicant: M-SYSTEMS FLASH DISK PIONEERS LTD.Inventor: Menahem Lasser
