  • Patent number: 8144606
Abstract: Devices, systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with a network device for interfacing a host with a network are described. One example network device includes a transmit path, and a receive path. A loopback path connects the transmit path and the receive path. A frame detection logic is configured to monitor network traffic on the transmit path to identify loopback frames. When a loopback frame is detected, a loopback logic routes the identified loopback frame onto the loopback path and then to the receive path. The rerouted loopback frame may then be received by a host or an embedded client from the receive path.

  • Patent number: 8145983
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for processing a plurality of data blocks. In accordance with embodiments of the invention, a correction flag for each of the data blocks can be received, along with information on at least one error event for each of the data blocks. Using this received information, a search trellis corresponding to the data blocks can be determined. Determining the search trellis can include determining a plurality of branches and computing a branch metric for each of the branches. A search on the search trellis can be performed to identify at most one error event for each data block, where the search is based on the branch metrics.

  • Patent number: 8144420
Abstract: The power required by a voice coil motor (VCM) to maintain the head in the data region of a disk drive during an idle mode is further reduced. The current supplied to the VCM is switched on and off. This takes advantage of the inherent capacitance and inductance in the VCM, which maintains a current after the current supply is switched off. The current will slowly decay, with it being switched on again before it reaches a level where the average value won't offset the flex bias. In one embodiment, the current is maintained in a single direction, to offset the flex bias which pushes in one direction. Digital switches are used to reduce the power consumption of the control circuitry.

  • Patent number: 8144510
Abstract: In a multi-level memory cell, when data to be programmed arrives, the cell is programmed to the lowest-charge state in which any bit position that is being programmed or has already been programmed has the correct value, regardless of the value in that state of any bit position that has not yet been programmed and is not being programmed. The programming of other bit positions based on subsequently arriving data should not then require a transition to an impermissible lower energy state. Although this may result in a transient condition in which some bits have the wrong value, by the time programming is complete, all bits would be expected to have the correct value. A cell may contain any number of bits equal to or greater than two, and programming may be performed cyclically (e.g., from LSB to MSB), anticyclically (e.g., from MSB to LSB), or in any random order.

  • Patent number: 8145976
Abstract: In one or more embodiments, a method, computer-readable media, and/or computational unit acts or is capable of receiving, from a single, integrated memory, current and previous iterations of Log Likelihood Ratio (“LLR”) parameters for a current iteration of a Low-Density Parity-Check code (“LDPC code”) error-correcting process. These may then perform an LDPC code error-correcting algorithm using the current and previous iterations of LLR parameters. Following this, these embodiment(s) may overwrite the previous iteration of LLR parameters with a now-current iteration of LLR parameters and treat the current iteration of LLR parameters as a now-previous iteration of LLR parameters. Both of these iterations of LLR parameters for the now-current iteration may then be received following overwrite of the previous iteration of LLR parameters with the now-current iteration of LLR parameters.

  • Patent number: 8145013
Abstract: A multi-purpose scaler utilizes a vertical scaler module and a moveable horizontal scaler module to resample a video signal either vertically or horizontally according to a selected scaling ratio. The moveable horizontal scaler module resides in one of two slots within the multi-purpose scaler architecture to provide either horizontal reduction or horizontal expansion as desired. The multi-purpose scaler is arranged to scale the video using non-linear 3 zone scaling in both the vertical and horizontal direction when selected. The multipurpose scaler is arranged to provide vertical keystone correction and vertical height distortion correction when the video is presented through a projector at a non-zero tilt angle. The multi-purpose scaler is also arranged to provide interlacing and de-interlacing of the video frames as necessary.

  • Patent number: 8144817
Abstract: In a high-precision signal detection apparatus and method for a high-speed receiver, signal detection occurs asynchronously of the incoming data. A comparison clock is generated by an oscillator whose effective capacitance is varied by a second, lower speed oscillator connected to the capacitance. This prevents the asynchronous sampling that occurs in a zero-crossing position in the incoming data from remaining in that position in subsequent sampling cycles, so that a valid signal is not missed by the detector.

  • Patent number: 8139688
Abstract: A differential receiver which provides for estimation and tracking of frequency offset, together with compensation for the frequency offset. Estimation and tracking of the frequency offset is undertaken in the phase domain, which reduces computational complexity and allows frequency offset estimation and tracking to be accomplished by sharing already-existing components in the receiver. Compensation for the frequency offset can be performed either in the time domain, before differential detection, or in the phase domain, after demodulation, or can be made programmably selectable, for flexibility.
