Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to associate patent identifiers, such as by matching patient identifiers, utilizing principal component analysis. In the context of a method and for each of a plurality of patient identifiers, a set of vectors is determined that is representative of a plurality of components of a respective patient identifier. The method also performs a principal component analysis of each set of vectors, compares results of the principal component analysis of each set of vectors and determines whether two or more of the patient identifiers are associated with a same patient based upon a comparison of the results of the principal component analysis of each set of vectors.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to facilitate the sharing of health information between entities in accordance with data sharing rules effective for the entities. In the context of a method, a request is received to share health information of a patient between at least two entities. The method determines a data sharing group of which the at least two entities are members and determines data sharing rules for health information to be shared between members of the data sharing group of which the at least two entities are members. The method also shares the health information of the patient between the at least two entities in accordance with the data sharing rules.

Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods for providing emergency alerts on a geospatial display. In one embodiment, a method is provided. The method can include receiving event data from one or more data management systems. The method can include determining at least one emergency event exists based at least in part on the received event data. Furthermore, the method can include outputting, via a display device, a scaled geospatial arrangement corresponding with a physical location, a grid, or a list. Moreover, the method can include outputting, via a display device, at least one color corresponding to the at least one emergency event, wherein the at least one color is one of a set of pre-assigned colors.

Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying healthcare transactions with a risk of failing to include appropriate directions for use are provided. A healthcare claim transaction may be received from a healthcare provider computer. Based upon an analysis of the received healthcare claim transaction, identification information for a prescriber may be determined. A determination may be made as to whether the identified prescriber is an at-risk prescriber that has previously failed to include appropriate directions for use in association with a prescription. If it is determined that the prescriber is an at-risk prescriber, then a predetermined control action may be implemented. Otherwise, if it is determined that the prescriber is not an at-risk prescriber, then the healthcare claim transaction may be communicated to a claims processor computer associated with a claims processor.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are described herein that are configured to generate criteria that defines instances in which a policy is to be applied or otherwise activated. In some example embodiments, a method is provided that comprises receiving an indication of a selected field of one or more fields that are applicable to a criteria for a policy. The method of this embodiment may also include receiving an indication of an operation selection and a specified value related to the selected field. The method of this embodiment may also include generating a criterion that modifies the criteria for the policy.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for identifying a region of interest within a mammogram image. A method may include applying a clustering algorithm to a histogram of the mammogram image to identify a predefined number of threshold values. The method may further include determining a predefined number of seed values based at least in part on the identified threshold values. The method may additionally include generating a kernel image for each of the seed values. The method may also include using the generated kernel images to identify a region of interest including a breast within the mammogram image. Corresponding apparatuses and computer program products are also provided.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for processing healthcare claim transactions that are rejected due to a host error. The systems and methods may be carried out by a suitable service provider. A healthcare claim transaction received from a healthcare provider computer may be routed to a claims processor computer. A determination may be made that the healthcare claim transaction has not been approved as a result of a host processor error associated with the claims processor computer. Based at least in part on the determination, the healthcare claim transaction may be resubmitted to the claims processor computer.

Abstract: Systems and methods for evaluating healthcare claim transactions for Medicare eligibility are described. A healthcare claim transaction designating a payor other than a Medicare Part B payor may be received from a healthcare provider computer, and a product or service associated with the transaction may be identified as a product or service that is eligible for Medicare Part B coverage. Based at least in part on the identification, a determination may be made as to whether a patient associated with the transaction is eligible for Medicare Part B coverage. The transaction may be routed to a claims processor computer if it is determined that the patient is not eligible for Medicare Part B coverage. However, if it is determined that the patient is eligible for Medicare Part B coverage, then a message indicating that the transaction is rejected may be communicated to the healthcare provider computer.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are therefore provided to interpret sensor input. In this regard, the method, apparatus and computer program may receive input from a plurality of sensors (e.g., different user input devices), and configure a sensor interpreter based on sensor criteria received from the plurality of sensors. The input received from the sensors may include a distance between a user location and one or more sensors, and a sensor interpreter may be configured based on the distance of the location from of the sensors. The sensor interpreter may be configured so that input operations are transparent to the user, without requiring the user to consciously change the way they interact with the sensors as the sensor interpreter is configured.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are described herein that are configured to provide remote access to a workstation operating in a medical domain via a zero configuration protocol. In some example embodiments, a method is provided that comprises activating a viewing application that is configured to connect to a remote workstation, via a zero configuration protocol, and enable a view of medical application data. The method of this embodiment may also include receiving an indication of a current patient context. In some example embodiments, the current patient context identifies the medical application data that is currently being viewed at the remote workstation relating a particular patient that is available for viewing in the viewing application. The method of this embodiment may also include accessing the medical application data in the viewing application based on the current patient context.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are therefore provided to enable context aware logging. In this regard, the method, apparatus, and computer program product may record events that occur in one or more applications, where the events are due to user input. These events may be associated with time values and data describing application contexts, such that the events may be used to generate an input log that also records application semantics and statuses. A variety of operations may be performed using this input log, including recreation of an application state by playing back the log, the ability to suspend or resume a user session, the ability to perform undo or pause operations, the ability to analyze user inputs to train or audit users, testing of users, troubleshooting of errors, and enabling multi-user collaboration.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to enhance medical images by utilizing an enhancement function in order to permit a user to more efficiently and effectively read the medical images and provide diagnostic or other information based upon the enhanced images. In the context of a method, a medical image is received that has a plurality of pixels with respective pixel values. The method also enhances the medical image utilizing an enhancement function. The enhancement function varies depending upon the pixel value of a respective pixel. For example, the enhancement function of one embodiment may be a piecewise function. As such, the method enhances the medical image by modifying a representation of the medical image in accordance with the enhancement function.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided that includes a case for securing an overlay template and a touch-sensitive surface in an aligned relationship. The case is configured to receive an overlay template and a touch-sensitive surface. The case includes at least one opening enabling access to a sensing area of the touch-sensitive surface in which an object comes into contact. The touch-sensitive surface is divided into a plurality of regions associated with respective functions of a software application. The overlay template depicts the regions and a layout of the regions into which the touch-sensitive surface is divided. The case is configured to securely hold the received touch-sensitive surface and the overlay template in place in an instance in which the overlay template is placed on the touch-sensitive surface while inserted in the case.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product therefore provide an integrated display of clinical data. In this regard, the method, apparatus and computer program product may provide access to patient clinical data during a medical study. The relevant clinical data may be obtained from patient medical records, and displayed along with information from the medical study. An interface may be provided, allowing for selection of one or more portions of the relevant clinical data by a user. The portion of relevant clinical data associated with the particular interface element may be displayed. The method, apparatus, and computer program product may also incorporate adaptive learning techniques, monitoring user input during various study operations to identify particular relevant clinical data and/or interface elements that are selected by the user during the study.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided in order to integrate clinical data with the medical images reviewed by radiologists or other healthcare providers. In the context of a method, one or more findings related to a respective risk profile of a patient are identified. The method also includes concurrently presenting both one or more medical images of the patient and a visual representation of at least a portion of the patient's body with respect to visual indications of the one or more findings. The method also includes providing information regarding a respective finding upon selection of the visual indication associated with the respective finding. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also provided.

Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring controlled substance distribution include receiving a healthcare transaction at a service provider computer. The healthcare transaction may be parsed to determine the healthcare provider submitting the healthcare transaction, the drug being prescribed as part of the healthcare transaction and the class of controlled substance to which the drug being prescribed belongs. Counters associated with total scripts prescribed by the healthcare provider and the class of controlled substance may be incremented upward in view of the healthcare transaction being approved by a claims processor. A current percentage of the class of controlled substances being prescribed can be calculated for the healthcare provider and compared to a threshold percentage for the particular class of controlled substance. If the current percentage violates the threshold percentage, a notification can be sent to a corporate level or management level for the healthcare provider for review.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to facilitate the transfer of data from a source system to a recipient system in instances in which the source and recipient systems process data having different data stream types, such as differently formatted data. In regards to a method, data is received from any one of a plurality of source systems, each of which has a respective first data stream type. The method determines a recipient system from among a plurality of candidate recipient systems and determines a second data stream type accepted by the recipient system. The method directs the data to a first processing module of a plurality of processing modules based upon the source system, the recipient system and the first and second data stream types. The method processes the data with the first processing module based upon a recipient system and its second data stream type.

Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods for verifying treatment plans comply with treatment guidelines established by a healthcare organization. The treatment guidelines may be based, at least in part, on care guidelines generated by independent medical standards bodies. The implementation of the treatment plans may also be verified by the healthcare organization and may implement corrective actions when the treatment plan implementation is not in compliance with the approved treatment plan.

Abstract: A method for sharing patient charting templates across third party health information technology systems and practices is provided. The method may include, by a template sharing apparatus, receiving indication to share a template with another third party system, bundling template code, and transmitting notification the template is available. Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for supporting remote hosting without using network address translation. A method may include supporting, at a hub, a plurality of redundant tunnel end points for each of a plurality of spokes using a technology based at least in part on multipoint generic routing encapsulation protocol. The method may further include using policy based routing to determine a destination spoke for outgoing data traffic. The method may additionally include using service level agreement tracking to select a tunnel end point from the plurality of redundant tunnel end points for the determined destination spoke. The method may also include causing the outgoing data traffic to be routed to the determined destination spoke via the selected tunnel end point. Corresponding systems, apparatuses and computer program products are also provided.
