  • Patent number: 5142474
Abstract: An electronic control apparatus for a vehicle includes first and second controllers between which the transmission of information is performed. A processor in the form of a microcomputer processes information transmitted from the first controller to the second controller and controls an actuator such as a brake actuator based on the information thus processed. An abnormality detecting circuit detects an interruption of signal transmission between the first and second controllers for a predetermined period of time, and it stops the control of the second controller on the actuator when it detects such an interruption. A transmission inhibitor is provided for inhibiting signal transmission from the second controller to the first controller when the abnormality detector detects an interruption.

  • Patent number: 5140962
Abstract: A knock sensing apparatus for a multi-cyclinder internal combustion engine has a knock sensor that generates an electrical output signal corresponding to vibrations of the engine. A peak hold circuit generates a level signal indicating the level of the output signal of the knock sensor during a prescribed period. The level signal is compared with a threshold determined by the operating region of the engine. When the level signal exceeds the threshold level, it is determined that the engine is knocking. According to one form of the present invention, the threshold is determined on the basis of the output signals from a plurality of sensors for sensing different operating conditions of the engine. In a preferred embodiment, the sensors include a sensor for sensing an indication of the engine rotational speed and an engine load sensor.

  • Patent number: 5137128
Abstract: A magnetic particle type electromagnetic clutch has two clutch discs so disposed that the two discs can be electromagnetically connected together and disconnected. In a space between the two discs are charged magnetic particles. When an excitation current is run through the excitation coil disposed near the two discs to produce a magnetic flux, the two discs and magnetic particles are magnetized to be connected in unison, thereby transmitting a torque from the drive shaft to the driven shaft. The two discs are each secured to the tip end of the shafts. The shaft has two groups of magnetic layers which are rigidly affixed to the shaft and axially spaced. Each of the groups of magnetic layers is directed + 45 degrees or - 45 degrees with respect to the axis of the shaft. When the shafts start to rotate, magnetostriction is developed in the respective magnetic layers resulting in a change in permeability.

  • Patent number: 5138554
Abstract: In the suspension controller of the present invention, there is provided a suspension or stabilizer characteristic change-over determining device whereby a damping force or a spring constant of a suspension or a torsional force of a stabilizer is calculated from a degree of similarity corresponding to a physical amount which exerts influence on the suspension or stabilizer characteristics and a state amount, using fuzzy logic, and when it is enhanced, this enhanced state of the suspension or the stabilizer is maintained for a set time. If during this period a set value of the damping force or the spring constant or the torsional force corresponding to the output which is responsive to the degree of similarity indicates a rather low state for a predetermined time or longer, the value of the damping force or the spring constant or the torsional force is set low and this state is maintained for a set time.
