Abstract: The invention is directed to a pulse generator provided with a connecting member electrically connecting the lead and coil having an entwining section at one end thereof at the portion different from where an end of the coil is fixed, around which wound the middle portion of the coil drawn out to be connected to the lead, whereby a stress added to the drawn out coil is absorbed by the coil twined around the entwined portion, to be prevented from cutoffs of the coil fixed to the one end of the connecting member. A reinforcing member can be applied to the connecting member at an end thereof where the coil is fixed, to reinforce the bending strength of the end portion of the connecting member thereby to prevent cutoffs of the coil. Furthermore, the pulse generator may be provided with a bobbin having a protrusion at the edge of one flange thereof the drawn out coil twining around thereby to maintain the winding strength of the coil to facilitate the following work.

  • Patent number: 5119783
Abstract: A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine has a vibration sensor which senses engine vibrations and a low-pass filter which passes a low-frequency component of the output of the vibration sensor. A comparator detects misfiring when the level of the low-frequency component exceeds a prescribed reference level. When misfiring is detected, a microcomputer identifies the misfiring cylinder and stops the supply of fuel to the misfiring cylinder. The control apparatus may also include a knocking suppression device responsive to a component of the output signal of the vibration sensor.

  • Patent number: 5115792
Abstract: A signal generator generates a crank angle reference signal and a cylinder identification signal in synchronism with the rotation of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine. The crank angle reference signal has high and low levels which change at a first reference crank position and at a second reference crank position of each cylinder. The cylinder identification signal corresponds to a specific cylinder and is out of phase with respect to the crank angle reference signal. The operating position of each cylinder is determined on the basis of the crank angle reference signal and the cylinder identification signal so that the ignition of each cylinder is controlled based on these signals. The ignition control for the cylinders is stopped if there is an abnormality in the crank angle reference signal or in the cylinder identification signal. This improves reliability and stability in the control of the overall system.

  • Patent number: 5111707
Abstract: An engine starter apparatus comprising first and second noncircular gears, a pinion, and a starter motor. The pair of noncircular gears is interposed between a crankshaft and a ring gear of an engine, and when the speed of rotation of the first noncircular gear is kept constant, the second noncircular gear rotates the crankshaft while cyclically causing a change in the angular velocity due to its profile. Since the second noncircular gear is positioned so that the change in the angular velocity caused by its rotation can cancel a change in torque of the crankshaft, the change in the torque of the engine are not transmitted to the starter motor, thereby operating the starter motor at constant current at all times, providing such additional advantages as smaller and lighter starter motor design and reduced noise.

  • Patent number: 5109820
Abstract: A knock control apparatus and method for an internal combustion engine serves to simplify hardware components employed to reduce the load thereon, and hence minimize the cost of manufacture while improving the freedom of control of an engine control unit. Vibrations of a cylinder are sensed to generate a vibration level which is then averaged to provide an average value. A knock determination threshold is generated based on the average value. The vibration level is compared with the threshold for determining whether knock is taking place in the cylinder. When the vibration level exceeds the threshold, engine control parameters are controlled in a direction to suppress knocking in the cylinder. Preferably, the averaging of the vibration level comprises averaging the vibration level to provide a first average value, and averaging the first average value to provide a second average value.
