Abstract: Disclosed is a cloned tyrosine phenol-lyase gene which encodes an amino acid sequence represented by the formula [I], which can be expressed in the absence of tyrosine in culturing medium. A recombinant vector containing the tyrosine phenol-lyase gene as well as E. coli transformants capable of producing tyrosine phenol-lyase are also disclosed.
Abstract: A color-developing sheet for pressure-sensitive copying paper sheets is obtained using an aqueous suspension of a color-developing composition containing a multivalent metal salt of a salicylic acid resin obtained from a salicylic acid ester and a mixture of styrenes which include a styrene dimer, which aqueous suspension is obtained by finely wet-grinding the color-developing composition in the presence of at least one anionic, water-soluble, high-molecular weight substance selected from (a) polyvinyl alcohol derivatives containing at least one sulfonic acid group thereof and salts thereof and (b) polymers and copolymers containing as an essential component a styrenesulfonic acid salt.
Abstract: A polyimide film essentially consisting of polyimide having recurring units of the formula (I): ##STR1## which has a density of 1.335 to 1.390 g/cm.sup.3 at 23.degree. C. and/or a refractive index of 1.605 to 1.680 at 23.degree. C. in the direction of thickness and is transparent; and a preparation process of the polyimide film by extruding the polyimide having recurring units of the above formula (I) through a common melt-extrusion process, casting in a chill-roller to obtain an unstretched film, uniaxially or biaxially stretching the unstretched film to cause molecular orientation, and successively setting the stretched film through heat-treatment.
Abstract: The ethylene/pentene-1 copolymer composition comprises an ethylene/pentene-1 copolymer satisfying specific request and an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer. This composition has excellent balance between impact resistance and tear properties, excellent transparency and good hot tack properties, and are particularly useful for packing films.
Abstract: A heat-resistant and thermoplastic polyimide which has low dielectric characteristics and recurring structural units of the following formula ##STR1## wherein R is a tetravalent radical having from 2 to 27 carbon atoms and selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic radical, alicyclic radical, monoaromatic radical, condensed polyaromatic radical and noncondensed aromatic radical connected each other with a direct bond or a bridge member; aromatic diamines which are useful for the raw material monomers of the polyimide and have following formulas: ##STR2## and ##STR3## and a process for preparing the polyimide of the above formula by reacting these aromatic diamines with a tetracarboxylic dianhydride in the presence of an aromatic dicarboxylic anhydride or aromatic monoamine, and successively thermally or chemically imidizing the resultant polyamic acid.
Abstract: A method for molding a polypropylene or a propylene copolymer having a syndiotactic structure which comprises the steps of melting, molding, if desired, quenching and then stretching a propylene homopolymer or a copolymer of propylene and a small amount of ethylene or another .alpha.-olefin which has a substantially syndiotactic structure, or a mixture of the same and a small amount of a polypropylene having a substantially isotactic structure. The molded and stretched article can be heated at a temperature of a molding temperature or more, while a load is applied to the article. Furthermore, the molded and stretched article, if desired, can be treated with a hydrocarbon vapor, while a load is applied to the article. The molded article obtained by the method of the present invention has a novel crystalline structure.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a high surface hardness transparent resin having excellent scratch resistance, heat resistance and chemical resistance, a glazing material, a protective cover for display devices, an optical lens and a hard coat material comprising the aforesaid resin, and a novel polymerizable monomer which is useful as a raw material of the above-mentioned resin.The monomer is represented by the formula (I) ##STR1## (wherein R is an aliphatic residue having or not having an halogen atom, an oxygen atom, an alicyclic ring, a heterocyclic ring or an aromatic ring, an alicyclic residue, or a heterocyclic residue, n is an integer of 1 to 4, when n=1, X is oxygen or sulfur, when n.gtoreq.2, X's are all oxygen or all sulfur, one X is oxygen while the other X or X's are sulfur, one X is sulfur while the other X or X's are oxygen, or two X's are oxygen while the other X's are sulfur).
Abstract: A polyimide-based friction material which is excellent in heat resistance, abrasion resistance, stability of friction coefficient, can be readily obtained by molding, and is comprised of:(a) from 30 to 96 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polyimide resin essentially consisting of recurring units of the formula: ##STR1## (b) from 2 to 30 parts by weight of fluoro resin, and (c) from 2 to 40 parts by weight of calcium carbonate wherein the sum of components (a), (b) and (c) is 100 parts by weight.
Abstract: This invention relate to a process for producing glycine by reacting glycolonitrile, carbon dioxide and ammonia in the presence of water, comprising subjecting first water, glycolonitrile, carbon dioxide and ammonia to a pre-reaction at 80.degree.-120.degree. C. for 0.5-1 hour and then to the main reaction at 150.degree.-200.degree. C. and a process further comprising recycling the remaining mother liquor having separated the glycine from the reaction solution obtained by the above process to the system comprising water, glycolonitrile, carbon dioxide and ammonia to carry out the aforesaid pre-reaction and/or main reaction.
Abstract: An extruded stretched filament of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene has an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of at least 3.5 dl/g, a tensile strength at break of 10 kg/mm.sup.2, a draw ratio of at least 3, a C axis orientation degree of at least 0.9, an outer diameter of 0.1 to 10 mm.phi., and a substantially indefinite length, and a method and apparatus for producing the same.

Abstract: A surface acoustic wave element has a low insertion loss in one direction and a wide band width. This surface acoustic wave element has first and second interdigital electrodes each having a thickness on a piezoelectric or electrostrictive substrate. In a first interdigital electrode for exciting a surface acoustic wave, positive and negative electrodes are alternately arranged such that their electrode widths and periods are gradually decreased in a direction of propagation of the surface acoustic wave. In a second interdigital electrode for receiving the surface acoustic wave, positive and negative electrodes are alternately arranged such that their electrode widths and periods are gradually increased or decreased in the direction of propagation of the surface acoustic wave.
Abstract: Polyethylene terephthalates of the present invention are excellent in mechanical strength, heat resistance and transparency, and therefore blow molded containers molded from the present polyethylene terephthalate are excellent in high temperature filling properties when they are filled with juice, refrigerant beverage, carbonated beverage, seasonings, etc. Furthermore, the blow molded containers prepared from the present polyethylene terephthalates have such characteristic features that they are free from thermal deformation at the time when they are subjected to high temperature filling, they are readily subjected to sterilization treatment and hence excellent in high speed filling properties.

Abstract: The present invention provides resin compositions containing thermoplastic resins. Thermoplastic resins employable for the compositions are polyolefin resins, polyester resins, polystyrene resins, polyamide resins and polyphenylene ether resins. The present invention can be particularly effected by using polyamide, particularly, specific aromatic polyamides.In the present invention, the resin compositions can be improved in various chemical and physical properties such as flame-retardance, moldability, color tone, heat stability, mechanical strength by the use of other resin component and stabilizers such as halogenated organic compounds, modified polyolefins, antimony compounds, phosphorus-containing compounds, amine- or phosphorus-type stabilizers.
Abstract: A resin composition is herein provided which comprises 100 parts by weight of a polypropylene and 20 to 100 parts by weight of a hydrogenated styrene/butadiene or styrene/isoprene elastomeric block copolymer having a melt index of not less than 25 g/10 min as determined at a temperature of 230.degree. C. and a load of 2.16 kg/cm.sup.2. A method for manufacturing a coated molded article of the resin composition is herein provided and the method comprises the steps of molding said resin composition and then applying a coating directly without any preliminary surface treatment. This method can provide a molded article having low mold shrinkage factor and linear expansion coefficient, makes it possible to reduce the amount of fillers to be incorporated and is thus effective for making the weight of automobiles lighter.
Abstract: Cyclohexyl acetate is produced by reacting acetic acid with cyclohexene in the presence of a heteropolyacid mainly composed of oxides of tungsten as a catalyst. The heteropolyacid may have water of crystallization adjusted to the amount of average 3.0 molecules or less per one molecule of the heteropolyacid. Cyclohexyl acetate can be produced in high selectivity and high conversion. The catalyst is effective even at a low temperature and stable even at a high temperature.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing dipentaerythritol through the dehydration condensation of pentaerythritol in the presence of an acid catalyst. This production process comprises the step of carrying out the dehydration condensation preferably in the presence of an acid catalyst, and/or the step of lowering the temperature of the reaction mixture before the conversion of pentaerythritol becomes not less than 25%, to stop the reaction so that the concentration of tripentaerythritol formed during the reaction may not be increased, and at the same time to give a reaction mixture containing dipentaerythritol in an increased concentration.
Abstract: A process for producing an alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, which comprises alkylating an aromatic hydrocarbon with an alkylating agent in the presence of a heteropoly-acid or a salt thereof such as phosphorus tungstate and silicon tungstate as a catalyst. The process is particularly useful for preparing alkyl-substituted naphthalene or naphthalene derivatives.
Abstract: A thin film of an amorphous alloy comprising (i) at least one element selected from Fe and Co, (ii) at least one element selected from Pt and Pd and (iii) at least one element selected from (a) 3d transition elements other than Fe and Co, (b) 4d transition elements other than Pd, (c)5d transition elements other than Pt, (d) light rare earth elements, (e)Group III B elements, (f)Group IV B elements, (g)Group V B elements, and (h)Group VI B elements, and the film having an easy axis of magnetization perpendicular to the film face. The thin film has excellent magnetooptical characteristics including increased coercive force and large Kerr-rotation angle and Faraday-rotation angle, and is excellent in resistance to oxidation and In consequence the coercive force and Kerr-angle of the film do not substantially change with time. The film has a high reflectance as well.
Abstract: A resin composition for producing a film is provided. The composition comprises (A) a high-density polyethylene having predetermined melt flow rate, density and melt tension, (B) a propylene-based polymer having predetermined melt flow rate, (C) talc, (D) CaO and/or MgO, and (E) a surface active agent. The resin compositions is readily formable into a film having excellent strength and water resistance as well as paper-like texture and rigidity. A method for producing a film by blown-film extrusion from such a resin composition is also provided. In this method, both ratio of diameter of the resulting bubble to minimum diameter of the bubble and ratio of length in machine direction of the bubble with predetermined diameter to the die diameter are adjusted to fall within predetermined ranges.
