Abstract: Centrifuge for the separation of gaseous mixtures with a rotor inside a housing, comprising a hollow, cylindrical or nearly cylindrical rotorpart also called a separating drum, in which drum a gaseous component may condense as a liquid. This liquid is admitted thereafter through openings in the drum to the space between drum and housing. In this space are formed a sequence of narrow openings, so called restrictors in which the liquid is brought to expansion, returning to gas form. These restrictors act also as bearings for the drum. The gaseous component that does not liquefy in the drum is drawn off.

Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of 3-bromomethyl-3-cephem sulfoxide derivatives of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an acylamido group and R.sub.2 is a group protecting the carboxy radical which are valuable intermediates for the preparation of various therapeutically useful cephalosporanic acid derivatives.
Abstract: A drilling vessel has a hold adapted to store and transport drilling pipes arranged parallel to the length of the vessel. An elevator extends lengthwise of the vessel in the mid-plane of the hold and communicates between a plurality of superposed holds and the deck. An elongated overhead crane that extends longitudinally of the vessel is arranged in the or each hold, the crane being supported at its ends on tracks extending transversely of the hold located fore and aft of the hold. These tracks are interrupted at their middle for vertical passage of the ends of the elevator. The ends of the elevator, in turn, ride on vertical tracks that are interrupted for passage of the ends of the cranes. In this way, the elevator can move vertically and the cranes traverse horizontally, without interfering with each other.

Abstract: First and second similar rotary encoders are interconnected such that the first encoder actuates the second encoder to advance one position for each half revolution of the first encoder. The first encoder is coupled to monitor the position of a rotary component. If the encoders are shifted or off-set by up to 90.degree. to either side of precise zero crossover alignment, a logic comparator modifies the reading of the second encoder to create a true read-out. During each half revolution of the first encoder, the second encoder should read even or odd if a proper phasing exists. If the second encoder produces an opposite reading, a phase shift is indicated. A logic circuit, preferably a microprocessor is provided for combining and modifying the readout in accordance with the logic. A microprocessor includes a program to continuously sample the position of the successive encoders with an internal table applied to the position readouts to provide a correct and true value of the rotary component position.
Abstract: This invention is proposed to increase the efficiency of all vaned diffusers used in centrifugal compressors, without in itself further increasing the overall diameter. The invention is to curve in a radial plane, the axial cross-sections of vanes from tip to near the throat, so as logically to accommodate the heretofore deleterious effect of the long-recognized highly-arched relative velocity traverse across the impeller exit annulus, a recognition seldom reflected in diffuser structure over the past approximately 49 years of vaned diffuser development.
Abstract: A stabilizer composition for a polymer is described, said composition comprising a chemically combined structure of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a group having the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are independently a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl or substituted alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, with the proviso that at least one of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 contains adjacent to the group HC- a carbonyl group which forms a part of an acid group, ester group, acid halide group, ketone group or aldehyde group; and X is --S(CH.sub.2).sub.y --COOR.sup.5 or --S(CH.sub.2).sub.y --OCOR.sup.5, wherein y is 1 or 2, or --SR.sup.5, --OCOR.sup.5 or --OCOCH.dbd.CHCOOR.sup.5, R.sup.5 being an alkyl or substituted alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms.

Abstract: Hot melt adhesives which are especially suitable for use with heat-recoverable plastics articles such as heat-shrinkable sleeves, wrap-around sleeves and end-caps are based on a combination of selected polyamides of relatively low molecular weight and relatively high amine equivalent, especially those based on dimer acids, and compatible waxes, especially low molecular weight paraffin and polyolefin waxes. The adhesive compositions advantageously comprise a tackifier, especially an aromatic tackifier, and preferred compositions include a minor amount of a rubber modifying agent to improve their low temperature flexibility and high temperature stability.
Abstract: Novel 1-(heterocyclylalkyl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimidazol-2-ones, wherein said heterocyclyl group is a 3-pyrrolidinyl or 3-piperidinyl group, each substituted in the 1-position with a 3-aryloxy-2-hydroxypropyl, 3-arylthio-2-hydroxypropyl or 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-2-yl)-2-hydroxyethyl group, said compounds having useful .beta.-adrenergic receptor blocking activity.
Abstract: A vehicle having a prime mover, a hydrostatic transmission transmitting power from the prime mover to ground engaging members on said vehicle, a power take-off arranged to be driven by said prime mover and clutch means for selectively engaging the power take-off with the prime mover. The vehicle also includes regulator means operable upon the transmission to maintain the power consumption of the transmission below a predetermined level, and compensating means operable upon the regulator means upon engagement of the clutch means to reduce the predetermined level of power consumption of the transmission.
Abstract: A strain gage load cell for measurement of weight or other forces. The load cell includes opposite and relatively massive end constraints, a pair of stabilizer flexures connected between opposite end constraints in a parallelogram type frame, a sensing beam with a first end supported by one of the end constraints, and a load directing flexure between the other end constraint and a second end of the sensing beam. The load directing flexure intersects the midpoint of the sensing beam and causes equal tensile and compressive stresses along a common surface of the beam upon which the strain gages are mounted.
Abstract: A harmonic distortion attenuator in an AC power supply for reducing electrical energy consumption through the suppression of transient voltages in power supply lines or the like connected to the circuitry wherein a threshold voltage clamp, responsive to a transient, closes an electrical path between the power supply lines. A triac or current responsive device is provided in parallel with the threshold voltage clamp to shunt the current flow from the clamp when the current through the clamp rises above a predetermined limit.
Abstract: An X-ray image intensifying screen is described comprising halide-containing phosphor particles. In order to improve the stability to moisture and thus to protect against loss of fluorescence power the phosphor particles are admixed with, combined with or have reacted with one or more organic substances that are capable of reacting with hydrogen chloride and/or labile halogen. The stability is further improved by admixture of nonhygroscopic halide-free phosphor particles in such a ratio that the ratio of the intensification factor of said screen with respect to the intensification factor of said screen but containing no such halide-free phosphor particles is not smaller than 1:4.
Abstract: A creel for yarn bobbins or the like, comprising a plurality of yarn bobbin support members disposed in at least two adjacent rows, means for mounting at least two yarn bobbins on either side of each of the supports, and means on each of the yarn bobbin supports for receiving and guiding yarn from the bobbins mounted on supports in the adjacent row. The yarn bobbin mounting means includes swingably mounted spindles permitting each to be disposed in an operative or a loading position. Each of the yarn bobbins is axially directed to one of the yarn receiving and guiding means in the adjacent row in the operative position. In a preferred embodiment, pairs of yarn bobbins are axially directed to the same one of the yarn receiving and guiding means.
