Abstract: This invention provides a method of sealing and purging contaminants from the internal free spaces of an insulated electrical device by forcing into said free spaces a low viscosity material that acts to displace fluid contaminants from within said free spaces. The material later cures in situ to form a hydrophobic seal with good electrical properties. Also disclosed herein is a method for rehabilitating waterlogged plastic insulated multiconductor communications cables of the type employed in telephone system.
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and apparatus for molding articles in which a highly planar solidification front is desired. A charge of liquefied alloy to be molded into the desired article is placed in a mold and submerged in a heat-exchange bath of liquid metal forming a cylindrical column which is heated in an upper portion and cooled in a lower portion to define an intermediate level at which the bath temperature corresponds to the melting point of the alloy. Upon a progressive lowering of the mold within the bath, a solidification front formed in the alloy at that intermediate level advances from the bottom to the top of the charge.

Abstract: Rub-threshing machine for threshing grains and pulse comprising at least two endless belts which have been passed around guiding- and driving rollers, are driven at different speeds and are in mutual contact over a part of their surface length so as to thresh material at that location which is supplied to the belts. At least the lower threshing belt and preferably also the top threshing belt, is constructed of rod shaped elements, transverse with respect to the belt's direction of travel, and interconnected at their ends in such manner that the rods obtain a mutual spacing which is selected, for each sort of crop to be processed such, that the fruit can fall through the rods.

Abstract: A new method is disclosed for recovering elemental iron and manganese present in oxide form in waste slag obtained from oxygen steel production. The metal oxides are reduced in the presence of carbon or carbon combined with a coal mine waste material and an Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -containing additive present in the form of a silicate.

Abstract: Nuclear reactor with a MHD driven gas-core vortex, that may be preceded by an enrichment section and followed by a reprocessing section, both sections based on gas-cores that are MHD driven gas-vortexes, in which the nuclear reactor functions with a mixture of e.g. UF.sub.6 and one or more light gases such as H.sub.2, DT, He.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a metal strip into a shape having a transverse concave, convex bow, for example, for forming slats for venetian blinds. The strip material is fed into the nip of a pair of forming rolls having complementary concave and convex peripheral surfaces, to provide the bow. In order to ensure that the resulting bowed strip is formed without any twist, the strip is fed along a substantially straight path upstream of the forming rolls, and the direction of this straight path is adjustable in a plane passing through the nip and parallel to the axes of the forming rolls.
Abstract: A tomogram is constructed from a plurality of profiles by means of back projection, the effect of the point spread function being eliminated by analog convolution with a suitable one- or two-dimensional function.
Abstract: This invention provides a process for treating a nickel matte to recover essentially pure nickel comprising: treating an aqueous mixture of the matte with chlorine to produce a solid residue and an aqueous lixiviating solution having a pH value which is substantially nil or positive; treating the lixiviating solution to produce a solution containing primarily nickel chloride; and electrolyzing the solution to recover pure nickel at the cathode.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for coating a substrate with a radiation curble coating composition, characterized in that the composition comprises (A) an at least one isocyanate group-containing adduct of (a) an acrylic or methacrylic hydroxy ester with 5 to 20 carbon atoms and (b) a polyisocyanate with 4 to 40 carbon atoms and with 2 to 4 isocyanate groups per molecule, (B) a polyfunctional hydroxy compound having a molecular weight of 178 to 12,000 and a hydroxyl content of 0.5 to 30% by weight in an amount of 0.5 to 1.5 equivalents of hydroxy per equivalent of isocyanate of component A, and (C) a photoinitiator in an amount of 0.1 to 10% by weight of component A. The curing takes place in a first stage by radiation having a wavelength of 90 to 600 nm and in a second stage by reaction of the isocyanate groups of component A with water vapor and the hydroxyl groups of the polyfunctional hydroxy compound.

Abstract: An agricultural implement has a main frame and laterally positioned carrier frames pivoted to the sides of the main frame. The main frame extends forward to a coupling point for connection to a prime mover. The rear of the main frame mounts a hydraulic piston assembly that is interconnected to each carrier frame to elevate same into an upward tilted transport position. Each frame and carrier frame supports a frame portion having a respective group of rotatable soil working members positioned in a row to work a broad path during working operation. Connecting members on the carrier frames are connected to the central frame portion to raise same when the carrier frames are in their tilted transport positions. Latches supported on the main frame secure beams of the carrier frames in their tilted positions until release.
Abstract: In a method of loading the hold of a suction dredger vessel, in which a sension of sand and water is pumped into the hold during loading which is carried out in a first stage and a subsequent second stage for avoiding that a siphon effect is not possible and that the last quantity of water cannot be replaced by a sand-water mixture, the effluent means are kept, after the suspension level in the hold has reached the external water level, under the action of a suction pump for lowering the suspension level to below the external water level.

Abstract: A non-woven net structure is formed from initially-independent threads inding a thermoplastic synthetic plastic material. The weft threads are located in axially-extending grooves in the surface of a rotatable cylinder. The warp threads are located in circumferentially extending grooves which may be in the surface of the same or a different cylinder. The threads are heated and are moved by cylinder rotation into intersecting relationship in a roller nip where pressure is applied to bond the threads at their intersections while the threads are in the grooves. The net structure may be bonded to or integrated with a thermoplastic synthetic plastic material in sheet form in the same operation. A subsidiary feature is a novel form of weft thread distributing apparatus.
